  1. kind of i view the engine upgrade successfully being released as a barebones patch as the most realistic (and therefore optimal) result, adding additional changes of core mechanics to the already huge engine upgrade just seems like inviting unnecessary problems on patch day - i'd much rather orbit just get the base game working as well as possible before they try to tackle improvements
  2. well yes, but actually no im saying there are no measures in place to stop someone from opening apb, getting to the login screen, and firing up a script that runs through different login info, and just letting it run in the background or at least there didnt seem to be any measures the last time i forgot my password and tried to manually guess it
  3. considering the apb login screen has no real security measures at all its technically possible to just brute force anyone's account on a slightly related note, 2fa was supposed to disable trade locks at one point has that happened yet or will there be an update on that at any point?
  4. the engine upgrade isn’t going to go big and afaik it was never meant to, aside from some performance stabilization/optimization and minor graphical changes almost all of the actual engine upgrade will be invisible to players even if the initial engine upgrade patch is released perfectly (spoiler: it won’t be), my non-technical estimation is the community will be looking at several weeks to several months of major bug fixes before work even starts on problems from current apb i worry that the engine upgrade has been “hyped” for so long and that so many players are under the impression that a 6/12/24 hour patch will magically fix apb that when the engine upgrade is finally released, even if all goes smoothly (spoiler: it won’t), it will still be seen as a failure because it doesn’t live up to the monumental expectations that years of delays have caused obviously it’s possible orbit realizes all this and are working tirelessly to “beef up” the engine upgrade content but that’s a double edged sword - the longer they spend trying to meet the unrealistic expectations, the higher those expectations get
  5. if only that wasn’t one of the reasons gifting was removed thanks bud

  10. the next time you think about opening your mouth remember that being a cashier at a radioshack doesnt count as relevant IT experience and shut the fuck up

man if you said this shit to aliens they'd ban us from the galactic empire so fast it would make your floznarks spin
  13. no expert suggestions from the man who "works in the IT industry" ? tell me, how do you deal with clients in the "IT industry" who have zero understanding of your job but still feel the need to demand things and rush you? oh wait yeah can we get mattscott in here to tell this guy to "hang from a tree" yeah i called you a passive aggressive monkey because you were acting like a passive aggressive monkey btw i feel like its a little racist that you assume i meant a specific race when i referred to monkeys
  14. yeah we get it, you think matchmaking should be focused on right now ive been over the most likely reasons thats not happening, some are logical assumptions and some are straight from the devs if you don't trust the devs to tell the truth about why matchmaking is getting pushed until after the engine upgrade, then why would you trust the devs to actually fix matchmaking at all? thats a big yikes dude, i hope you dont act like this at your IT job
  15. oh my bad, i thought we were supposed to follow your lead yeah you’ve been a real fountain of knowledge in this thread 1 post that goes further than “work on matchmaking now because i, the ‘IT guy’, say so”
  16. it probably would have been but, as i’ve already said, adding phasing to the current game would likely cost more resources than to wait until after the engine upgrade as an IT guy shouldn’t you understand how difficult it is to add something new to old code with no documentation? i’m willing to bet i’ve played and paid more of this game than the guy who account shared in the middle of a bender unlike you i haven’t claimed any special insight or knowledge in this thread, just working on the information the community has been given over the years
  17. the matchmaking isn’t the issue, it uses modified elo ratings to match players of similar skill just like pretty much every other pvp game the issue is is the extremely limited pool of people it has to match - there’s no way to increase that pool without either a)bumping the district pop cap up and melting the already shit servers, or b) adding a mechanic (like phasing) that allows the entire population to be used for matchmaking purposes without changing the district pop cap wow that’s really great info thanks for explaining your points so well to us non-IT folks, i really appreciate the well thought out response
  18. obviously not as they’ve already told us that phasing is possible after the engine upgrade from my non “industry” knowledge, i assume the problem isn’t really the underlying engine but how much of a mess all the custom coding (open world districts, day/night cycles, customization systems, etc) piled on top of it is - to change something that affects so many other pieces would introduce so many unintended effects that it’s just not currently feasible if your “industry” experience can shed some light on this topic perhaps you should chime in, instead of being a passive aggressive monkey
  19. seamless instance transfer is not possible on the current engine unless (assumption) added via excessive custom coding - the very same thing that causes many of apb’s current issues
  20. you cannot possibly be a real person, this amount of willful ignorance is off the charts the difference here is that you aren’t saying “stop cheating” in district, you’re saying “player x stop cheating” - given your earlier statements i doubt you understand the difference so just trust me that there is one
  21. the only way to truly solve matchmaking issues is with the phasing mechanic, which is off the table until 3.5
