Agreed a thousand times over. I'd rather see presets be used as content for newer players/lazy people in-game. Something to help bridge that gap if you don't have mods to stick in your slots. Not as a moneypit like they are now, as you pointed out. That just isn't right.

That said I still preferred Fairfight. At least it was fairly solid at catching cheaters while also being non-existent in terms of problems on the users end. Save for the people being in control of it screwing up.. but I'd blame Tiggs n' crew for that. They allegedly banned people they didn't like under the guise of Fairfight. Meanwhile the people supposed to be tweaking it didn't seem to really be doing that. So. Yeah. I don't know. Just my opinion on it. Wasn't the best option by far, but it got a bad rap because of people in charge using it as a cover for bull**** bans for the majority of it being around. That and yeah it sucks royally if setup poorly, but at least we could play the game without being kicked for every other program on our PC's.

By far the best answer. Definitely suggest going the joker ticket store route too. They'll be the same gun in most cases. Slight variants at worst. Gives a very solid idea of how the gun will perform and if you'll enjoy using it.

What you quoted says it isn't allowed. -
Why new engine performance is so poor?
Genobee replied to Resine's topic in General Discussion Archive
It definitely worries me too. Out of the people I spoke to it seemed to be almost on par or running significantly slower. It didn't even really look much different, certainly not better by any real stretch. I'd have hoped that by now the engine upgrade would've been in a better state. At the very least look better or run faster, but it doesn't seem to. Instead it appeared to be struggling to match the frankensteined tower of spaghetti code we have on live now. Maybe there was some sort of bizarre issue with the test? -
A word of caution about the Open Beta
Genobee replied to MattScott's topic in General Discussion Archive
Kinda wondering about this myself. Seems like we just plain aren't gonna get it in and that they've probably gained all the information they could from this test by now. At least far as login problems go. -
Extending BETA time frame to 3pm PDT

Fix for performance problems at prototype gungame.
Genobee replied to Mitne's topic in General Discussion Archive
Never really occurred to me that not too many people know about this. Thank you for letting everyone know! Speaking of, I didn't know the default for the advanced launcher tool was so low (5000). If you've got a pretty good machine you'd probably be okay with that value as-is. Almost definitely enough to stop the crazy dips without nuking the quality in my own experience. Would only really go lower if you have to. I used to run a much higher value, as by default the higher end graphics options in-game would set it to an unlimited 0 value as I recall. Caused all kinds of crazy dips until you put a reasonable limit in place. Believe I used to run it at 10000. Which caused dips but they were far more reasonable. Anything past that was a bit annoying, I think, I haven't actively played in forever but I doubt that's changed. That or I'm remembering it completely wrong. I might be. Anyway, thank you again for posting this @Mitne. Seems like it's helped out a lot of people! -
Apology for incident during my stream

Just a Quick Reminder about the Fresno.
Genobee replied to Kewlin's topic in General Discussion Archive
It was available through the boxes at one point in time. You'd get a 365 day lease. Believe at one point the box descriptions stated you could get a permanent version of it. Yet I only saw the leases. So that might've been a typo (If not I want mine damnit ). After a while it was removed from the boxes and hasn't been seen since. Prior to the joker garbage boxes it was only released through a German magazine. You'd get a permanent version of both I believe. It was stated to be a limited item, and is one of the only ones that has remained as such. Which is a bit odd seeing as nearly every other item that was exclusive/limited/"never" coming back again/etc has been re-released ad nauseam. So there's a bit of an argument both for it and against it I suppose. -
Damn you. Beat me to it!

Hm. Well I'd say I'm pleasantly surprised! Things have been unbearably slow for a good bit now. So it's nice to see some changes finally making their way down the pipeline. Bit shocked too. Nice to see something in the same vein of what the community has been asking for since, uh, well a while. Hell I had my own suggestion, and so did others, for a system similar to this in the old SPCT forums in 2015-ish. Saw what felt like dozens of similar in the regular suggestions over the years too. Anyways, my point is Gamersfirst/G1 never listened about it. You guys did.

Engine Upgrade - Beta Stream Announcement
Genobee replied to MattScott's topic in General Discussion Archive
Very good idea to utilize streamers for this. Exceptionally good way to advertise games these days - if done right. Which from the sounds of it seems like it may be. Showing off a nice teaser of what is to come while handing out plenty of prizes sounds like a home run. -
Would you like to have weekly activies back in APB?
Genobee replied to Boba's topic in General Discussion Archive
Been a long while, but I believe part of it was that the guns themselves were outdated. Plus adding in new rewards took a good chunk of time. Assuming we are talking about the original fight club weeklies. Where you'd earn unlocks to lease guns and the likes. Don't believe the systems for it were broken. It was one of those things where they simply migrated towards a different means of providing content, I think? I could be horribly mistaken. Been ages since I was involved in any meaningful capacity with anything APB:R. Let alone the last time I really thought about it. -
Given how despised that garbage was I cant believe how many times they tried to force it into the game anyhow. Don't get it Anyway LO revert plz. At least then the gun will be usable again. Trades a little in terms of TTK for a big mag + needing to ads. Good enough.
-
Kinda funny how people forget about stuff like that. The TTK was always super short after G1 got the game.
-
Try something like r/buildapcsales/ Should be able to find something fairly nice at a steep discount if you dig around enough.
-
Hate to say it but that is probably from people opening up the launcher periodically. Steam tracks that as playing the game
-
I played APB the other day with someone that was running a 5700XT and they had no discernible issues. Aside from the ancient AMD bug caused by ambient occlusion making fun lines across the world. The type of memory alone would not cause the issues you are describing. I'd start running through the gambit of the usual troubleshooting steps. See if you can't narrow down what is causing your problems. Check your drivers, check APB:R's file integrity, ensure your card isn't malfunctioning, check your windows installation, etc. Something is wrong on your end.

Why does everything has to be so hidden and mysterious ?
Genobee replied to Ketog's topic in General Discussion Archive
In all fairness there hasn't been much of a reason to stick around. Any long time player has burned through what was available years ago. Only new content really has been in JMB's. Which I don't exactly qualify as worthwhile. Plus RIOT falling flat on it's face a day after releasing probably didn't do any favors. Guessing that signaled a good time to take a break for many. The engine upgrade will be the first thing in forever to make people actually wanna take a look at APB again. Just one of those unfortunate things. -
Matt, Y'all need an Ambient Occlusion Pass
Genobee replied to Eyepop's topic in General Discussion Archive
Camera distance probably. Further away in one than it is in the other. Plus I'm not entirely certain they are standing in the exact same spot. Further leading to that effect. -
Why are the Apocalypse weapons all terrible?
Genobee replied to Eyepop's topic in General Discussion Archive
Not wrong. Just wish they weren't left that way for years after being released. -
Have to say that you've got some very well written and thought out comments regarding the current state of weapons. Refreshing as all hell to see around here. Anyways I'd have to say I agree with pretty much everything you've mentioned here. Time for me to balance that out with some poorly thought out comments! As for the S1NA they could always try an alternative approach to fixing it. I just don't think yet another gun getting yet another accuracy hit is necessarily the right call. I'd rather they give it some sort of bizarre downside not well represented in the current lineup. Not saying it'd work but it would help keep a dividing line between it versus other guns. Something I've always felt to be lacking in the last couple of years in APB. As for what? I dunno. Already got a low kill to mag SMG, high accuracy one, one that requires scoping in, high mag count one, all-arounder (OCA), fancier all-arounder (PMG), etc. Then again re-working guns is often a horrible idea in most cases. Lends itself to more problems than it solves. Not to mention requiring significantly more dev time. So perhaps they could just add a shot to kill and call it a day there. Moving on! As for the PMG they could try some sort of far lesser take on it's original nerf during the early G1 days. Where it would increase in bloom as you fired for long durations perhaps. Though it'd have to be extremely minor, but it would help give the OCA a little more room to shine versus it overshadowing it a lot of the time as it does now? Dunno! Haven't thought that one out much. That said I do agree that things are definitely in a relatively balanced state. Though there are a few outliers that could certainly use further tweaking to bring them up or down. Such as the sad, sad, sad, sad Norseman line of guns. Those things definitely need to be touched up.

APB 2 graphic - please dont do this
Genobee replied to AxeTurboAgresor's topic in General Discussion Archive
Appreciate the response. Certainly explains the out-of-the-box UE3 style shaders present in preview images. On a related note: I'm getting quite tired of waiting, and the constant missteps are pretty frustrating to see. Hope you can sort things out and pull this project together - even if I've personally all but fully checked out from APB by this stage. Just really tough to see mistake after mistake piling up. I know you are doing your best. I know your team is too... but I keep finding myself going back to something I said a while go. Which was more or less that you've got the right ideas, but the wrong approach. With any luck you'll be proving me all kinds of wrong soon though! Best of luck man (I really mean that too! Not in the "screw you" sorta way, I swear!) -
Going to be honest here: keep on waiting. The stuff they've been working on still isn't here. Don't burn yourself out on the current version of the game with all the same old problems that it has always had. Plus their track record for fixing/improving things has been a bit off as of late. Just not worth the hassle if you ask me. Not yet at least. I'm a bit worried all-in-all. I think Matt has good intentions with the right ideas. What he doesn't have is a means of getting there effectively. I had a hand in a lot of things behind the scenes during the old SPCT stuff (a lot of things you see wouldn't have happened at all if I weren't around)... and it is looking shaky from my perspective. Very much so. Numerous delays with quite a few blunders that just plain shouldn't have happened.
