I think its to encourage players to play more than one day. Plus, whats wrong with rewards that not every single player gets?

I guess in game announcements of upcoming events would be nice. Since you already get an email, it's posted to the forums, and is announced both on Twitter and Facebook. I mean, short of calling you personally or something, that's really all that's left.
