NotZombieBiscuit 3146 Posted June 9, 2019 (edited) Was having sad nostalgic memories today and remembering all the games that I have played in the past that have either died or are so low pop they are practically dead anyway. Mimics APB a little bit. Guess I have a habit of picking games that are cursed. Might have come up with E3 this week and knowing the chances of anything hitting that spot or filling the void for me won't be there. Blacklight: Retribuition NeoTokyo Tribes: Vengeance Tribes: Ascend Titanfall 1 and 2 Dirtybomb Brink Ghost In the Shell: FA Natural Selection 2 Savage Hawken Nuclear Dawn Strike Vector Shadowrun Pandemic Express And so many more. I could go on and on. I know these types of shooters that put mechanical skill and alternative movement as the focus have always been kind of a niche, even more so lately, but it still sucks for those that can really only get in to those sort of games. There will always be that void that I constantly try to fill with games like these and every time it never works out. Probably why I never left APB and won't until it is completely gone. Am I only capable of loving games that are destined to die? Not really sure why I even made this thread. Just have some Neotokyo feels. _chain 176 Posted June 9, 2019 I've had a lot of fun in games that are now dead. But honestly i just like the nice people i meet there, and as long as I keep in touch or, you know, know that they're fine, i'm fine as well. this one time i met a girl and we started, em, ''dating''. We played microvolts (that game was the shit imo). then we stopped talking, her facebook profile disappeared, and i haven't found out about it yet. welp. Although I got bored of Blacklight and Tribes well before they died. Dirty Bomb is the biggest shame on the list, imo, very well put together, solid mechanically, and good fun when you got an even match. A little too much emphasis on the quality of your medic(s), but otherwise balance between mercs was good. Matchmaking (or lack thereof) really killed it though. At least half the matches I played were complete kerb-stompings one way or the other, and the competitive ranked matches never had a sustained interest. The last time I played it, I went something absurd like 45-4 just by sitting on a turret. I occasionally used it as evidence that removing threat from APB's matchmaking wouldn't actually improve things. Still at least it can still be played, even if Splash Damage aren't working on content for it anymore. First Assault's problem was that took a very deep IP and made an unremarkable and somewhat brainless shooter out of it. Not going to appeal to FPS fans cos there are better shooters and not going to appeal to GitS fans because it just had a superficial GitS paintjob (the US servers are labelled American Empire!!) and didn't really make much use of the universe. I wonder what state Planetside 2 is in these days...

Doubt Speaking of that game, seems the new update with the dx11 or whatever and the robotic operators brought a couple of new players. That didn't last though. I played again for about 2 weeks and helped out a couple of beginners, none of them seem to be playing now. Oh well. I wonder how are Combat Arms' numbers. That game was the absolute shit back in my day

MaxJedburgh 18 Posted July 11, 2019 Hawken? I used to love Hawken, probably too much. They shut down the pc servers after breaking the pc build. It still lives on console...but I lost my maxed out fleet of mechs, and don't own a console anyway. Funnily enough they still haven't added any more maps, just a whole new tier of mechs. All the same; great game, good times.
Flight 239 Posted July 11, 2019 I only just noticed this thread, but I couldn't agree more - I have the exact same problem. Neotokyo was a gem. Perfect Dark: Source was another similar Half-Life 2 mod which truly didn't deserve to die out - I could add The Hidden to that list as well.
