Will APB ever be what RTW intended it to be?

while a new district could be have any kind of map balance, midtown has some decent description in the lore (not that anyone cares tbh) that sounds a lot like financial

Didn't Midtown eventually morph into financial?

Although one of the Enforcer start screens does depict it - it would appear to be quite similar to the South East corner of the Financial district. It'd be interesting to see a whole map based on the idea of narrow back alleys and twisting roads (Although this sounds a lot like shotgun heaven now that I think about it)

While I have a lot of respect for what enthusiasm and hard work Little Orbit has done, their results have been mixed and frankly I don't care for time limited events that are bugged on the first day.

I like a lot of other people don't want to hear "We are so close..."

Sorry but I have little patience for Little Orbit learning on the job after so many years or "Soon™", I don't want to hear that it's nearly done, I want to to see actual progress!

I've been waiting too, but I can bear to sit on my hands a little while longer. We've gotten more concrete progress and communication in the past 8 months than the past 8 years.

From the big man upstairs himself:

NOTE: I was not on the original RTW team, nor was I on the Reloaded team, so much of this is internal hearsay.

As I understand it, Midtown was a development area for the game's work in progress assets. Most of the buildings were used in Financial, although a couple unique designs remain.
Technically we did find it on a map sketched in between Financial and Waterfront, and it is referenced in the lore as a separate place.

The idea of Criminal and Enforcer Social Districts were too fragmenting to the player base, so those districts were scrapped.
The Criminal Social District was used to create Asylum.

The assets for the Enforcer district are still there, but for reasons I wont go into, they aren't very usable as in-game models.
We would be better off doing something from scratch using that district as inspiration.

Thanks,
Matt

This is all in line with what we'd heard previously; Midtown was never a "finished" district and was never meant for gameplay, but as a district in the lore it exists.

have a great night all!!! Let's just get drunk :D

^way ahead of you xD

Anywayyyyyyy the map that was mentioned earlier can be found in different renderings on different locations in the game, like on boards / walls and ticket machines. There are way better comparisons though if you google for it. Midtown is just a name given to it, This so called Midtown District was meant for APB RTW, that much is sure. It was cancelled later in development when RTW went south. You can find it in the lore and even in videos (3d parts). At some point the APB creator community even wanted to finish it for them, this should be still on the old forums. Anyway yeah it became a no, no after things went south. Too expensive if the game on a budget like theirs doesn't thrive. Dem feelings. Anyway...

And yeah the racing district is another pretty amazing idea if you ask me!!!! Would almost forget about that. WeW. They indeed had so many idea's. Time flies doesn't it. Have a good new year!

It surely was by RTW. Too long past for most people though. Can't blame them.

At early stages that is. Very shortly. So technically you could say Matt is still right.

Having been playing since RTW, I can say that all we ever "knew" about it was that it was either "rolled into Financial" or was never finished, so what Matt stated fit the bill; whatever you're getting your information from about RTW's intentions for Midtown, though, I'd like to see it.

Nah RTW has mentioned the extra district a couple of times. Isn't there even a question / mention in of the old video's they did (mostly the old developer team). Those videos could still be on YouTube. Not that it really matters, because as said; RTW wanted to a lót more with APB and like MattScott states there is nothing for 'Midtown' so why not start from scratch if you'd ever start with anything? What other option is there? There is none. Same goes for racing.

Or it might be a conspiracy against you. You can't possible be wrong so. That should be it. Maybe the government being in on it and all, even the Russians. If I had a downvote left today you'd get one as well. Take a chil-pilll, APB was meant to be more. Enjoy the celebration evening.

(possibly? whatever. too much drinks)

Almost as if poor RTW is still getting trolled 😅. Hey if APB ever gets a racing track I wonder if we could still have passengers, to shoot other contenders / repairing? Lol. If you think about it, APB still has so many options to try, as always just time and money are the limiting factors. Really makes me wonder what this year will bring though. Go LO !!

afaik RTW hat assets and maps almost ready for stuff like casino district.

So what?

being able to BUY PERMANENTLY weapons (i remember nano) which otherwise are non obtainable ingame and are superiour (nano - anyone remembers?) are called Pay 2 Win.
and having to grind the game to get a gun for a few days is outright ridiculous.

bye then

Dude, what the fuck are u talking about? P2W was thing back in 2013-14, not now. Its all about one simple thing. Skill. Your literally given the best gun in the game at the begining. All in-game original guns are superior so where the hell is your problem with this stupid excuse that game is P2W. This have been excuse since ever because there are people like you, who are bad at shooters so instead of improving them selves, they complain about something is being broken or not fair. Like literally. Ntec is meta now, than we have JG which is complete destroyer and that fact that its broken now gives it on top, than what can i say about OCA? Very easy gun to play, PMG is complete mint gun and everyone knows how to use it, HVR is still cancer, bla bla... (All these guns are base game guns and you can buy them at the begining till the end and easily unlock slots by time)

There is nothing like P2W in this game, literally nothing. And if you think that because armas guns looks differend and because they have gold icon means they are better, well than hell no this conversation ends here cuz 80% of Armas guns are re-skins of in-game guns and have just differend looks and sound.

Like ive said above. P2W used to be a thing back than because we had things like Troublemaker, ATAC, (old) nano, Yukon...

And if your excuse is still here (that is, that armas guns have 3 slots open) than what is this excuse? This game is F2P, what do you expect? You have to grind atleast a little in order to achieve something. So at the end its only about a slots on guns and lets face it. Mods dont make guns op, only if they have wrong % which happened for example with shotguns few months back.

So stop complaining and IMPROVE.

Yeah man, P2W isn't found in Joker boxes, it's  such a huge mistake these people keep making. Joker guns are always worse than similar white weapons, but, because they can be traded and are collectables, while sometimes perky or funny to play, they are worth in-game money. Collector items. People see them being sold for millions of APB$, those MUST be pay-2-win. Right?

The only legendary that comes a bit close is the Vulcano, but, you'd always need to be a maximum distance from the target for that to count. Because of this. the Osmaw is absolutely still the stronger and better launcher. Again, a Vulcano could be considered more funny to play though... and that's it. We debunked all Joker legendaries. White guns are better. Let's just say it; "and some legendary guns are not just worse, they simply are utter crap".

Is there no P2W though? Well, you see, we can buy all the meta guns, fully unlocked, pre-modded, from Armas. Is this pay-to-progress or pay-2-win? I think pay-2-progress is stretching it a bit with some of the 3-slot guns. Even though you can unlock them in-game, sure, but like because, with the current pop it it s going to take a bloody long while to unlock them all. You can just pay to have the best of the best stuff from the get-go, on all your alts.

And then we have the more rare Armas guns like the LCR and what not. But hey almost nobody thinks this private non-tradable non-legendary market is pay-2-win. How do people even know you paid for them? Maybe if you are rank 1 with all 3 slots available. Or maybe people know that one weapon you are holding isn't always up for sale.

No man, the under-powered Joker collectables .... people see them for millions of APB$, those MUST be pay-2-win. Right? It's almost as if these are a distraction of what could be considered P2W. 🙂

Cinemas? how could this work? Would it play player made fan sub videos? Plus this is not GTA so I honestly do not think cinemas is a good idea.

From the old version of Social:

There used to be a theater in Social before it was replaced with the Joker store.  It wasn't functional yet, but if I remember correctly I think I read in a document from a former RTW dev that the idea was pitched to have player made videos running in there.  Remember that this was all in a time before the only APB videos being made were kill montages over laced with filters and "Why APB Failed" videos, and when there was a video recorder built into the game itself.

There were supposed to be separate Enforcer and Criminal versions of the 'Social District' as well. IIRC the criminal one even got made, and what we have no is the Enforcer one? Or something like that. Been so long. And you kinda need a higher pop for that to be a thing as well.

Anyway, at the very least now with LO APB has another go at it. Who knows! We might get there!

Wow, even I'd forgotten about the in-game video recorder. I still had some videos from when that was in the game a while ago, but most of them were just there because I misclicked the button. Fun times though.

The Enforcer social district was never finished.  I think it was Matt that said he found the files for the ESD and that it wasn't really salvageable.  While ripping models from a RTW beta copy of the game for a VRChat map I'm putting together I found some of the assets from the ESD.  Nothing really significant, mostly just a network of wires that would be on the telephone lines and running along the ground all as a single model, little pieces of a garage, mainly just the ceiling, a big@$$ satellite dish, some DJ equipment that was also used in Asylum, a dance floor, and a bar that looked more like it belonged in a cafeteria.  So at least as far as what's in the RTW 0.6 Beta's files go, there's barely anything that exists of the ESD that would point to what it would really look like.  I'm sure there's some assets I wasn't able to open like map geometry and stuff that Matt would have access to, but that's really all I could find in terms of props for the ESD.  There's some old pictures that have circulated around of a street with a giant satellite dish matching the one I found, and a picture that looks like a checkpoint on a bridge, that are said to be of either ESD or Midtown.  Judging by the satellite and that the map looks like an HQ, I'm assuming its ESD.

Either way it's still a very cool looking district and I'd love to see what all truly exists of it in an editor.
