PLAYLUXE 54 Posted July 22, 2021 Dunno if this has been posted before, at least I couldn't find anything similar. Here's an interesting article from "The Guardian" with insights on why developing APB was so unnecessarily expensive and how much went wrong while development - with statements from RTW ex-employees: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/gamesblog/2010/aug/27/realtime-worlds-collapse 5
Saxtus 497 Posted July 22, 2021 It was mentioned in the old APB:R forum, but it got trashed along with all the discussions we had pre-2019.
PLAYLUXE 54 Posted July 22, 2021 Thanks for the info. In that case I'm glad to make it accessible again for everyone here since it answers so many questions about this game and it's unique history.
PLAYLUXE 54 Posted July 22, 2021 It may have been expensive but only because of budget mismanagement. If you'd develop the game today without doing those mistakes and with current technology it would be much cheaper to produce.

Thiagao145 18 Posted July 27, 2021 I work for the gov. and this article sums it all: "When you have too much money, you just dont give a fuck." The problem was: RTW wasnt the gov. RIP

Saxtus 497 Posted August 2, 2021 Biggest irony is that GTA:O gets new free DLC two times per year, with the last one released two weeks ago, bringing back a lot of its player base.

R* and Take Two are probably in the top 3 of the biggest gaming companies. It is impossible for a company like Take Two to go bankrupt

GTA:O is one of the biggest missfires ever released by a game dev. Basically nobody plays this game the way its intended on public lobbies, and those that do ( like myself ) find sneaky tricks to keep the unpleasants out. How can it be a misfire if it has a ton of players and makes the devs fat stacks of cash ? It may not be played in the intended manner, but who really cares about that ?
