Social-district-standing

It is just way too often to see at least 25% of the population staying in the social district and do absolutely nothing/afk for a long period of time. I don't mean those that are making trades on the marketplace, designing their avatar/vehicle appearance, or even just having small talks with others, but the ones that do ABSOLUTELY nothing in-game. What is the idea behind this such "social-district-standing", so to speak?

for a moment i thought you meant that being in the social district gave you a Standing and that you could level up the social contacts by just being in social, there would be no actual benefit from doing it, but you'd be able to see how long someone had spent in social by what Rank their social standing was at.

Some people show off their outfits, some chat in clan / group chats and seem to be AFK for you and some literally just stay AFK.

This happens in literally any MMO out there.

Yea, I have never understood hanging out Social. But whatever. 

Still looking for card, casino games, gun shooting/testing gallery. Ability to organize my weapons, give some of my Joker box weapons away to noobies. A lottery system from the ridiculous 20% sales tax and a million other things.

Soo much potential and Zero imagination. 

I know, I know Engine upgrade.

LOL should LO really planned to do this Social Standing thing, this may be the greatest achievement of LO that will be beneficial to most people of the community so far

Sure I know about that, as I come up with this term with the correlation to the renowned and historical Bank-standing in Runescape among the global MMO community. It just gets on my nerves in the case of APB because the population here is way smaller than many MMOs and they are becoming a significant part of the playerbase, while other districts cry for missions and fight club participation.

probably most just leave the game running because its easier than restarting, especially if they arent going to run missions/fc where performance would be an issue

If I'm making a coffee and drinking it, I'll head to social so I don't get kicked from action district for idling.

Any reason that will make me afk for more than 5 minutes: Social. Because I don't want to have to re-log.

Asheron's Call had a similar thing in what was essentially it's market town, a whole servers population could be there at any given moment, lagged the server so much they introduced something called "portal storms" which would teleport you randomly away to a different cluster, usually into a pile of monsters... stopped people going afk, but they used bots, SO they blew the town up with a meteor and everyone moved to a nearby dungeon (as dungeons were not instanced, but they were on different clusters) eventually they actually added a Market place to the game... but it was more fun when it was player driven.

tl:dr - shit was standard in MMO's back in the day.

For some people APB is like a poor man's Second Life.

If you're only playing APB for social district then you should be playing SL instead, and why would someone even play APB just for social district in the first place.
