Have you ever considered to quit playing APB completely?
mynd replied to xHenryman90x's topic in General Discussion Archive
I've basically quit completely besides stopping by the forums once in awhile. Will anything bring me back? Might check out the Engine Update, but truth be told, it's only going to make APB shiny for a couple hours at best. I wish Little Orbit happened to this game years ago; I feel bad for them and the time they're spending on this sinking ship as there are simply too many holes to plug. -
Deactivating threat segregation during low population?
mynd replied to HelplessBaby's topic in General Discussion Archive
If people were even-minded, disabling segregation could work. Unfortunately, the disdain between the threat levels makes this impossible. Threat and matchmaking hurt games more than they help imo. As I've said countless times, back in original counterstrike and starcraft days there was no matchmaking. Bad players were compelled to get better vs complaining the games were too hard. -
I would like official clarification on the migration to Unreal 4 and APB 2, and whether that's still happening or shelved. If APB:R is the only thing LO can develop in it's current state, that would be most disappointing. Developing APB:R just won't do much good considering how dated the game is, how long it's taken to even get to the point it is at now etc. 5+ years later and it still hasn't been released on Unreal 3.5 for PC. If the new guys are going to do APB 2 for PC (and not just for the Asian markets), that could be promising. If all they care about is mobile, well RIP.

Am I the only one using decent graphic settings?
mynd replied to Seedy's topic in General Discussion Archive
For some, it's edgy having low quality graphics. Some people are just seriously stubborn about having halfway decent computers. The computer I had in 2012 ran the game at max just fine, minus the unavoidable stuttering here and there from garbage collection, 90ish fps max 2560x1600. The fact that some people STILL can't play the game with the graphics turned up is absurd to me, I personally believe that those that still can't run the game decently have no right to complain in 2019.- 33 replies

7/10 RIOT Update / Minor Jericho outage
mynd replied to MattScott's topic in General Discussion Archive
Just on the tangent of games not for me and the guy I was responding to Fortnite, unfortunately is doing quite well. I think I'd really have enjoyed it if the game wasn't centered so much around building. Course all the evil things it has enabled Epic to do makes me glad I don't support that product. -
7/10 RIOT Update / Minor Jericho outage
mynd replied to MattScott's topic in General Discussion Archive
Amen. And then Fortnite takes it a step further with the ridiculous building. ONE bullet whirs past a players head and suddenly he erects an impenetrable fortress in 2 seconds! -
No one has a stable 144 FPS. It's not possible to have stable FPS in this game due to the garbage collection system it uses and how old the engine is.

APB fell into the timelessness again..
mynd replied to TheMessiah's topic in General Discussion Archive
Commit to rebuilding it from the ground up to be a brand-new, modern game for this generation, and don't make it Epic exclusive, though they'd probably need the money. -

We have a decent tutorial imo, it's just no one wants to do it. -
APB fell into the timelessness again..
mynd replied to TheMessiah's topic in General Discussion Archive
One has to ask though if this is even still possible? I think we're way past the point that this game could have any meaningful growth. A sudden increase from old players to check out possible new content is the best we can hope for I think. I haven't logged in and played since their big balance patch last year iirc. -
Release the Engine upgrade this weekend
mynd replied to BernsteinGirl's topic in General Discussion Archive
The fear I have with this, regardless of when it's released, is that no matter what the EU isn't going to meet expectations. It's going to be shiny and new for a few hours, but then everyone will realize it's the same old APB. People forget that the EU ORIGINALLY was ONLY meant to offer game optimizations and allow for faster content creation and release, never an improvement on visuals. I imagine the half-assed 'improvements' were tacked on when they decided to port the game to consoles. I'm not saying that it's not cool that they spruced things up a bit, but I fear the general expectations for what people expect out of the EU will leave them incredibly disappointed. That wouldn't be G1's nor LO's fault, aside from the Q1 2014 meme. -

This has been in beta for the life of the game it seems. I just force it on through my vid card, no green edges. -

I missed whenever this was discussed. That's semi exciting, though a lot of the art assets should probably be revamped too. -

I wonder what the likelihood is that this game EVER makes it to UE4. Might honestly be better to just rebuild the game from the ground up brand new as 2.0 or something. But they'd probably have to hire contractors to get the work done in a reasonable amount of time. -

I'm personally not impressed at all when I take into account that this ancient game and the long process to bring it to 3.5 results in it still looking ancient, just less ancient. Relatively speaking, sure it's an improvement over current APB, I just think at this point it would be a good idea to either commit to modernizing all the visuals of the game, or not waste any more dev time on it. Not sure how much LO has done with the visuals themselves, or if this is all work done by G1 before the buyout. -
Anything that gives an advantage, no matter how small, no matter how meaningful said advantage is between various skill levels, is a cheat in my book. People wouldn't fight over this or be so passionate about it if they didn't feel like they benefit in some way. That said, It's up to the developer to set the guidelines and restrict what they don't want edited. There should be no gray area here, this is one of those things that MUST be black and white imo. An example of a double-standard gray area is hardware macros VS software.

I personally was only commenting on how it was sad to see that RIOT mode wasn't going well. I responded to Genobee and one other guy that quoted me and that's all I was here for. I think I understand that you took it as part of a bigger conversation going on, which I have nothing to do with. I don't care about the skin or anything else to do with RIOT mode. Sorry for being snippy though

I don't understand why you chose to chime in on this without paying attention to the context. Scroll up for some clarity on how this tangent started and why.

They're not creating a competitive environment around game distribution, they're buying exclusivity to third-party titles to force players onto their inferior platform. This is heavily anti-consumer by limiting consumer choice. True competition is offering a better choice over the competition, not strong-arming them onto your platform. Real competition spurs innovation and benefits the consumer. Tell me how anything EPIC has done is consumer friendly? They literally don't care about pissing consumers off, even over crowd-funded games that wouldn't exist because of consumers, consumers who expected said games to be launched on Steam as promised.
-
Actually yeah, that's a great idea, because I could finally let go of APB forever if they made that move I cannot stand EPIC and anything they're doing, fracturing the PC market by throwing Fortnite money at it. Won't support. If APB continues to update and load from its own launcher too then maybe. Aside from my personal convictions, you're right, it could possibly save the game if LO needs the help.

Very bad news if RIOT is already failing. I was never interested in the mode, which seems to be the general consensus of APB players. Maybe they were hoping a new crowd would join the game? However, with so much development time being put into RIOT for it to be so incredibly underwhelming, you have to wonder how much more effort LO will put into the game. I do question why they did not focus solely on the engine upgrade and fixing the core game. I don't think they quite understand what APB players want. Bringing in new players will only be successful if they win back the core players that spread positive word of mouth. At this point, I think they should just let current APB run dry and work on APB 2.0. Start a kickstarter even, just don't sell out to Epic.
-
Sure others have addressed it? But for being too lazy to read, you know as well as I that macros do a lot more than help a player with fire rates, which can still be considered an advantage. When it comes to things that are considered cheating, I'm personally 100% willing to look at it black and white, so if it's not white, it's black. Macros fall into various shades of grey and I'd rather it just be clear, than not clear.

Even with the ram-raid exploit, I would never say it was lucrative. It was the most boring grind in any game ever imo.

I agree with this. Seems like the preferred side to play on most of the time by experienced player, and it used to be more reliable to get opposition as the Criminal side would usually have more players on it. I know I usually preferred to play Enforcer too.
