End of First Quarter update blog
BrandonBranderson replied to MattScott's topic in General Discussion Archive
That's what I'm saying. The fog in the Halloween event is good and should not be disabled. Only the normal fog causes noticeable issues, so I would like an option to disable the regular fog. If you try disabling it you will probably get a pretty decent fps boost. -

I don't know what you meant by that, but to answer the first part, Cookie said "Not the Halloween event fog. The fog in the distance in normal districts that just makes stuff looks hazy. Offers no advantage, but many players find it makes the game look better visually when removed." -
The reason why ghostshots happen.
BrandonBranderson replied to Ketog's topic in General Discussion Archive
A lot of good info here, thanks Ketog! That explains a lot too. Usually when I get spooked is when I get the most ghost shots, and my usual response to getting spooked is having a mini freak out and just clicking as fast as I can hoping to hit something. So from now on just slow it down a bit. Good to know. lol, do you really think LO would hand select a brand new player to be an SPCT? Cookie has been around for years and years, he's just on a new forum account. If I remember right he had a fairly controversial ban (meaning that he didn't actually do anything wrong) and a lot of people were supporting him trying to get his account back. Am I remembering the right person here? Correct me if I'm wrong. -
I absolutely agree with #2. I'd have to agree with Vicky on #1 and #3 though. I hate that you have to lease guns, it only makes it more difficult for new players and doesn't have any effect on the ones nearing the halfway point (or anyone that buys a perm gun on Armas), but the other costs I feel are necessary money sinks.

Pretty much what Cookie said. Just the distant fog in normal districts, not event fog. Though if light pollution comes back I won't be disabling it even if the option is available. And yes I believe San Paro should be swapped out for gm_flatgrass. I live in a fairly mountainous area, so I have to drive through a lot of hills and valleys on my half hour drive to work in the morning. And since my state has drastically varying weather, its pretty common for me to go through Silent Hill levels of fog on my way to work. -
Did you get it on Steam? If you bought it on Steam and played it for less than two hours you can get a refund.

Currently you can't paint over or even change the color of them at all. The surround for the lights is just stuck as white. It's always been like this, and G1 seemed to be unable to fix it. Maybe Little Orbit could take a crack at it?

This would be nice. Currently I just drag in the first letter, duplicate it and replace it for each letter.

Jesus Christ. Is Matt Scott also in charge of the RedHill Institute of Technology? -

Alrighty lemme just hit W on my PS4 controller. Point is, that doesn't work on the console version. The Vegas just doesn't seem to have enough torque to pull off a wheelie on consoles. I could be seeing it wrong because of the shitty frame rate, but that's what it looks like. -

Sounds awesome, thanks Matt! But now for the most important question... Will the Vegas and the 4x4 still be able to wheelie with Nitro 3? I know it doesn't work on the current console version, but have you guys fixed it on your end yet? Also will there be a graphics option to disable fog? I don't know if it'll be like this on 3.5 but in the current game it drags the frame rate down quite a bit. -
The RedHill Institute thread
BrandonBranderson replied to Ketog's topic in General Discussion Archive
I don't think RIOT is a limited time event. Judging by the way that Matt talked about it, it's probably going to be around for a while. We're not getting a new faction but was just part of a Halloween event. It wouldn't make sense for them to stick around considering their theme is all spooky and doesn't fit APB's main game at all. Unlike the Halloween event factions, RedHill actually fits into the game's lore. (Not saying RedHill is going to be a third faction or anything because the whole game is only structured to accommodate two) The comparison to the Halloween event guys not sticking around just didn't make sense to me considering that they were just made for the Halloween event itself. -
Is this actually a suggestion? Sounds more like a request for information... I think...
-
Hi, Welcome to APB. I'm assuming you're new here? The current devs have done more for this game in their first 6 months than the previous company did in 4 years. Just throwing that out there. On topic though, The flare gun is actually really useful. Shoot it into an area, it puts a marker over the heads of all of the enemies visible from where the flare popped within its range, granting you 8 seconds of knowing exactly where they are. A flintlock can shoot once and deal some damage. Even if it was a 2 shot at close range you would die before you're even halfway done reloading it, because, you know... It's a flint lock. I'm not against adding niche weapons with weird mechanics by any means, but replacing a useful and unique gun with a less unique and less useful gun? Nah. Plus knowing how spastic APB's coding is, it would probably just be easier to add a new gun than to completely convert an existing gun with unique mechanics into one that uses normal mechanics. I mean one time adding the Easter event (I think it was Easter) caused the SHAW's ammo type to change to OPGL grenades, and the removal of the Fourth of July event changed the mods on a preset Vegas.

Should the GamersFirst brand be retired?
BrandonBranderson replied to mtz's topic in General Discussion Archive
Yes absolutely. At this point the GamersFirst name carries nothing but negativity and a shitty history. They also need to break that out of place "Reloaded" off of the title. -
What really bothers me is that RTW for some reason didn't go with the usual color picker for the hair color. No idea what the logic behind that was when it worked just fine for customizing literally everything else. Like Tobi said, I think it would be great if we could use tattoos applied to the scalp to change hair color too. There would need to be a checkbox to turn that off though.

That's a good idea, and maybe while HL3 works for reducing damage from falling, maybe Valzipram Tablets could gain a feature of increasing the amount of horizontal speed needed to kill you when hitting a wall. But that would be assuming that Car Surfer were to be removed or changed and just become something that anyone can do. Not to derail the thread here, but I'd also be in favor of removing Car Surfer or changing its purpose and making it so anyone can car surf, just make it a little more skill based, like needing lean into turns and stuff. (By lean into turns I mean strafe in the direction that the vehicle is turning) Then if Car Surfer were to stay, it could just make it so you don't need to compensate for the vehicle's movement.
-
That crossed my mind too, but then I remembered the somewhat strict out of bounds system. That should prevent you from having enough time to cause any real damage to a mission because you'll only be able to be on that roof for 10 seconds.

What music are you listening to?
BrandonBranderson replied to gamergoggles's topic in Off-Topic Section
I notice a lot of retro styled stuff on here, but rarely anything that is actually old. Nothing wrong with that, I just think it's kinda funny. -
Basically, when a player jumps, they should keep the momentum that they had before they left the roof of the vehicle with less resistance than we currently have. There should still be resistance, just not nearly as much. So for example if you jump from the hood of a car, you might land on the roof or the trunk, not just stop immediately and fall to the ground. It's just something that always kinda bugged me about this game, no big deal though. Forgive me for the picture, I did this while at work so I don't have any of my usual tools.

Is APB dead? will it be brought back to life?
BrandonBranderson replied to blockblack's topic in General Discussion Archive
Despite how broken APB is, I'd say it's still better than GTA:Online. APB just doesn't get boring the same way that GTA does, nor does it have the abysmal menu system that GTA has. If you ignore all the physics bugs, APB is a very solid shooter. GTA feels like you're playing QWOP with guns. -
How many times does need to be said?

LO's recipe for a sucessfull game
BrandonBranderson replied to sakafiskafnjak's topic in General Discussion Archive
What? Fairfight was banning legits while cheaters were getting near endgame. That's what you call "working"? It's just ridiculous to say that there are more cheaters now than back in 2017. Back then you would see a fat naked enforcer run at light speed into an area, wipe out a whole team by firing straight up, and be gone as quickly as he showed up. That doesn't happen anymore, or very rarely at least. Its not like PunkBuster ever did anything anyway except for that one time that it banned everyone who logged in on that day, which is why it was removed in the first place. They never said that they are getting rid of BattleEye. They said that they are working on their own anticheat to accompany BattleEye and work as a server side anticheat like FairFight did. I'm just going to assume you have a bad memory if you don't remember how bad the experience used to be compared to now.
