Unexpected Downtime Update

Just to add to this conversation about the server migration—LA servers come with some serious challenges when it comes to migration and gameplay, and I don’t think a lot of people realize just how expensive this move could be. LA is a major tech hub, and that usually means higher hosting costs compared to other locations in the U.S. (though I could be wrong, as I’m not from the U.S.). But we’re not just talking about basic server fees—there are a ton of additional costs: data transfer, migration fees, DDoS protection (which they absolutely should have), and network optimization. All of that adds up fast, and for a game like APB Reloaded, we could be looking at anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000 or more a month just to keep things running. That’s money that could have gone into development, updates, or even just better infrastructure elsewhere.

 

And let’s be real—this isn’t just about cost and fees of the game. Moving the servers to LA isn’t great for players either. East Coast and international players are going to feel the latency spike, which means more lag, worse performance, and potentially dead NA/EU servers if the connection isn’t stable. Plus, if that wasn’t enough of a headache, let’s throw in California’s shaky power grid and earthquake risks—because nothing says “smooth gaming experience” like unexpected blackouts or disaster-related downtime. Add network congestion and poor routing into the mix, and you’ve got a perfect storm for unpredictable lag spikes that’ll just frustrate players even more. I really, truly hope this migration goes as smoothly as possible, and that the dev team can pull it off with minimal issues. But I can’t sit here and pretend that I’m confident it’ll be problem-free when the servers relaunch. No game is by any means perfect, and APB is a great example of that, they all come with issues I just hope everything gets sorted out eventually.

I believe they are talking about the 'log in' server, which is separate from the live game servers in NA and EU.

This server has always been located in a city just south of Los Angeles proper. 

 I believe they used to be in the city of Anaheim bout 30 miles at most south of L.A. 

So they could be moving that into Los Angeles proper or any of the cities surrounding L.A.

 L.A. is also used as a general reference to the city itself and or the LA Area.

They say the provider did this without notification. Either theres a serious lapse on the providers part and LO should get some sort of compensation, or there was a notification and LO missed it. For this to happen and be down for so long theres something in the background that we dont know about. A decent provider should give notification and wouldnt take down the old stuff till the new stuff was up and running. Im speculating here abit but any form of common sense would go this route.

As someone who has been working in Corpo for a decade I can tell you that almost every company displays gross incompetence on a bi-weekly basis.

I have worked with hundreds of people from CEOs , factory workers, IT and you name it all from different companies. This stuff is way more common than you think and it's way worse in massive entities.

 

The things I have seen behind the scene have permanently altered my perception of companies for life.

I never defend LO and I must say I'm very skeptical about this... HOWEVER, I feel needed to say that let's see when the game comes back online what they will come up with. You're doing it the wrong way, talking about compensation while no one knows when the game gets back online. You still got your free-premium right? They should take this back from you at first, so you can spend more G1C to get Joker Tickets?
