Yes it's fine if the rules were there from the start. Then you simply don't use something with stupid rules. Right now Microsoft has no rule in their ToS which states that you are not allowed to disable automated updates or legal action will be taken against you. They would have to add it. You already own the license for the software. You can use it however the hell you want as long as it doesn't break actual laws. They can be saying whatever they want. They can't force you out of sudden to use their software in a certain way under a threat of causing you harm. That's illegal. Only the initial agreement that you have "signed" matters. Everything that they will add / remove / modify doesn't matter because you didn't "sign" it. That's why it's some manufactured lie or a clickbait imo. Additionally Microsoft would be ruined if something like this surfaced that you can't disable the updates or they will sue you. I really doubt that they would be so stupid to risk something like that.
-
They can't enforce that on you unless it's directly stated in the terms of service that "upon disabling automatic updates legal action will be taken against the user". And if something like that was added in the terms of service then their software in itself would become illegal because it would infringe on your human rights since it would be a form of slavery.
-
If people are using Windows illegally then it's a different story but if they actually own legal licenses then Microsoft won't be able to do anything to them in a 100 years. They can't sue you for the way you are using their software. It's as if they would add a large red button on your desktop and say that they will sue you if you will press it.
-
No thank you. I'm happy with my current job. Merged. I don't see how agreeing to receiving automatic updates without further notice (meaning they simply won't notify you) would result in getting sued upon disabling them. If the ToS don't directly state that disabling the automatic updates will result in a legal action against the user then they can't touch anyone. And even if an entry like that would exist then it would infringe on your basic human rights since Microsoft would be enforcing their updates onto you which would result in sort of a master-slave dynamic so if they would sue you it would backfire at them. That's why either it's a lie, a joke or some sjw microsoft employee who will or already got fired or microsoft trying to scare users so they can install spyware on their PCs (which is also criminal and which would backfire at microsoft if that's the case).

It's like LO thinks that "naaaaaah they won't abuse anything, it will be great and everyone will love it !". Literally after first 24 hours:
-
I'm using Home and I cannot check what you are asking because I'm not at home. You can block certain updates from installing by using a little tool made by microsoft if you don't want some specific thing on your PC. You can also display all of the updates which are installed on your system and uninstall specific ones. I don't think you are able to select which updates are being installed by automated updates since as the name suggests they are automated.
-
You do realize that windows updates are divided into smaller packages and you can literally uninstall specific features from updates ? You can also simply disable automatic updates and install them manually. There is no way that things are installing themselves on their own outside of windows update service unless you have software which has automatic updates. Even if there will be monetization in the future (there never might be btw since it's just all speculations) it will be most likely about the app store or you might have ads on your pc which you will be able to disable anyway either by killing some service or making a change in the registry. It's not like they will make you pay $1 to open the start menu.
-
You can get rid of every single piece of "spyware". It's 2019. There are ways to disable whatever you want.
-
Why not just use win 10 ? It's better in every way than 7 if you optimize it and get rid of all the garbage.

Yup, I will also be gone once cyberpunk comes out. Probably like the rest of the community.

Hackusations, mistrust and a dwindling population
Thial replied to TheDogCatcher's topic in General Discussion Archive
Get used to it. I haven't played APB for a year since nothing interesting is happening to the game. Then I've decided to jump in for one day. Got immediately hackusated for aim and macro, called out for not having a life and what not. Hell, even when I chat on APB streams there are always some people who are calling me out for cheating. People who constantly play APB for years will always look like cheaters to less skilled players. You can't change the way people think no matter what. I agree with the fact that it seems like LO doesn't know what to do when it comes to cheaters. I'm really hoping that EAC will work out but then again... I see how things were going so far so idk... -
1. Take cover. 2. Juke properly. 3. Don't miss. Most of the time people just miss or run in the open and they blame the game for dying. Nfas has a large spread so it's a very noob friendly weapon where you just spray and get the kills. I don't know what else to say.

Pretty much. That's exactly why I'm afraid that LO will turn into G1 if they will continue to do things the same way. G1 has also started by talking to people etc but slowly they started doing things their own way and they stopped caring about what the community wanted. I'm really afraid that RIOT is the beginning of the same transformation. The companies starting to get more and more disconnected and trying to save the game their own way instead of simply doing community polls and listening to what the community says. I hate it when companies see that 99% of the community is against something but for some reason they still think that we don't know what we want and we don't know what we are talking about and if we will see what they made we will absolutely love it. Then that thing is a total flop (well duh... since 99% of the community was against it) and then the companies are like:

The things I wrote in the main post were mentioned in the roadmap in some shape or form but the roadmap has faded away recently. That's exactly why we need to remind LO to focus on the important things instead of wasting time on experimenting with random things. As I have said before, more and more people are already leaving APB because they are tired of waiting for the engine for almost 7 years. Soon there will be sooooo many good games coming out and even more people will leave and most likely never come back. They have a limited amount of time to attract players and so far it doesn't look like they have any sense of urgency since RIOT was just released. Sooner or later some studio might also come up with a project similar to APB and then it will be completely over because an outdated game like APB simply won't be able to compete with the current standards. If LO won't take things seriously then APB will really die because the servers will be empty. I don't want to hate but I work as a software engineer and from my perspective it's really strange how slowly the development is progressing.

Unfortunately file checks are pretty poorly implemented in APB so you can literally remove all smoke / explosion effects from the game and play with runescape looking graphics and APB won't care. Even using the Advanced APB Launcher can be considered as cheating since you can disable most of the VFX purely by adjusting some settings so if I will want to play with the ultra settings I will be at a disadvantage. Rust is a good example of a game which specifically adjusted all graphic options so the game would look the same on every level of detail. Meaning same amounts and render distance of vegetation, same render distance of shadows and no ability to disable shadows. On low settings things were just much more pixelated. Would be cool if APB was also capable of doing that in the future and removed the external engine config files so people couldn't mess around with those anymore.
-
In the long run bringing up the topic of cheaters in any shape of form always ends up on hate, hackusations, drama and other pointless things. That's the last thing we need right now. But I will definitely agree that it feels good seeing cheaters getting banned.

You wrote that like 4 times already in this post. You are basically trying to defy what the forum stands for. Yes it was already mentioned 100 times that those things were posted already. That doesn't mean that important issues can't be discussed multiple times or unti they are resolved. Don't worry I've been following APB very carefully and I've seen every single blog post. Yes those things were mentioned in the roadmap but is the roadmap actually being followed ? That's highly debatable. Do you see me taking credit for anything anywhere ? I have even mentioned that this thread consists of things which people have been writing in multiple different threads and I have just summarized it. That automatically means not taking credit for anything. How about an idea that I'm writing those things to remind LO about their roadmap because clearly they are stepping down from the path that they have initially set.

32gb ddr4 3200mhz i9 9900k @ 5.0ghz RTX 2080Ti core 2100 mem 7800 and also on nvme m.2 here and the game throws random out of memory errors at me. Few other people had the same problem as me and the main hypothesis right now is that the current engine can't utilize the new GDDR6 memory which results in the engine freaking out. Also 200 fps ? Isn't the game capped at 144 fps since monitors with refresh past 144 fps are simply overclocked and it's not an actual refresh ? I have a 165hz screen but that's OC, the base refresh is 144hz so the game is still capped at 144. Additionally good gear won't fix bad code where the game will simply stutter upon loading assets because the devs weren't very good with async coding at the time when APB was being developed.

That's true although the veterans have a lot of friends who have played APB as well. Something which would please the veterans could trigger a massive chain reaction. Some of them could also bring completely new players who were hesitating so far because of all of the bad things they heard about APB. Then you also have streamers who would bring their communities with them to APB. The new engine is a massive turning point for APB and LO should make the most out of it. Rreleasing a BR mode was not a good idea. Those people will disappear as soon as a new BR game drops. That's exactly what I keep saying. Without us the game would be dead so they owe us something in return. APB has survived only because of the passionate community who stayed for so many years despite everything. They should focus on the engine and the reworks of the core game systems which people have been hating on for years. Otherwise it will be like a house of cards. They can put new content and gamemodes on the top but if one of the core systems will fail then the entire thing will fall. Not to mention that they have completely ignored the outrage when people found out that we will be getting a BR mode and decided to release it no matter what. The BR mode simply won't work. They could change it to something else but this will take months and there are more important things to be worked on right now. I also really hope that they will reconsider their priorities and either make few teams focus on the engine or they will put RIOT team to work on the system reworks at least. The community can do without content for some time. We are used to it after G1's reign. They should also be aware of the fact that the second half of 2019 is upon us and 2020 is also around the corner which means a lot of amazing games being released. If the engine will take too long people will simply move on. Some examples: Cyberpunk 2077 Wolfenstein: Youngblood Borderlands 3 Biomutant Gears of War 5 HALO: Master Chief Collection Beyond Good & Evil 2 Monster Hunter World: Iceborne MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries Ghost Recon: Breakpoint Dying Light 2 The Outer Worlds Chernobylite FFXIV: Shadowbringers and many many more... So I don't understand how they can be so relaxed to be releasing something like RIOT because it's going to get really difficult for them to get players very soon.
-
That is true but only in some cases. It all depends on how the work is being assigned to people and how good the team is. I fully agree when it comes to making promises but even if the promises didn't exist releasing something like RIOT (not to mention that people were really vocal about not wanting a BR mode and first it wasn't even announced as a BR but a "Competitive Mode" instead) while everyone is desperately waiting for the new engine and reworks of the broken systems is like a slap in the face to all of those who have sticked around so long to witness it.
-
Well this roadmap you are speaking of is being delayed and delayed and delayed. The argument that there are different teams would be ok if things were going as planned but they are not. Just because there are different teams working on different things doesn't mean that they can't focus multiple teams on things which require more attention at a specific time. That's what we do at our office when some particular project requires more attention and it has been working great. We will do a brainstorming session. We will pick a workflow and we might change up the teams depending on the demand. After the project is done everything goes back to normal. Different things have different priorities. I'm not here to question LO's management or strategies though. All I'm concerned about is that things are not going as planned and in the meantime we are getting RIOT which the majority of the community didn't even want. If you have read my post you would see that the culmination of it is me proposing to postpone RIOT and focus the manpower on more important things.

For some reason LO is taking a lot of side paths with dead ends instead of following the main path if that makes sense.
-
The ultimate goal might be the same but the path doesn't seem to align.

Good placement of car spawners can totally destroy the mission with one team having to spawn 200-300 meters away from the objectives. Some people know the exact locations of spawn points and they will intentionally block them to offset the spawn distance of the opposite team. Not to mention situations where the enemies constantly spawn on the objective or when you are being approached by a single person in a pioneer and when he's 25 meters away from you his entire team suddenly spawns in his car. Then of course come situations like the entire team using steel plating 3 pioneers. Right now the game is heavily leaning towards the car gameplay.

It could be exactly as you are saying but until it actually comes out I will keep my hopes up that LO will seize this opportunity to revive the game. As far as I remember Matt has mentioned that some features were nearly done or done already but were waiting for the engine upgrade to be implemented so it's not like they have to work "tirelessly". I am a software engineer myself in the broadcast industry so it's not like I'm speaking out of my patootie when it comes down to those things. It might be as you are saying and the new engine might be a bug riddled mess and the game might die but LO won't get another chance like this to hype up all of the current players and those who are not playing anymore but are following what's happening with the game. So many ex players are waiting in the shadows for the new engine to come out. Hell even some really big streamers like Summit have announced that they will come back if the new engine drops. And along with them they will bring their communities to the game. That should be even more of a reason to spice up the release with reworks of some core systems. If this will fail then I'm afraid that a grim future will await APB.
