Vehicle Top-Speed Increase

Recommended Posts

Me and a friend were just talking about how it feels like the top speed for the fastest vehicles in APB looks/feels as if it were 40mph. He said that he heard that it's because the current engine can't handle cars going any faster. It'd be nice if every vehicle could get a major speed boost once the engine upgrades roll around. But first thing's first, would it even be possible?

He's correct, it's not currently possible due to engine limitations. After the engine upgrade it might well be something they look into.

If they increase the speed, then you can drive cross all map within 2 minutes. So they should make bigger map as well. I think they will not doing it. Maybe they could add speedometer.

This is a bad idea due to the way item missions currently work. They would need to rework missions before giving the vehicles a higher top speed or running will become the boring meta.

There are two issues with this, one being that you could cross the map in five seconds, as Rich said, and the second being that you. . . don't necessarily want to drive around a city at 100+mph. Driving's already chaotic enough in APB at 51mph, we don't need 80-100 players driving around like maniacs at 100 all the time.

Oh, and the fastest a car can go is around 51mph.

Unable to due to current engine limits.

Unable to due to current loading/LOD issues.

Unable to due to vehicular/gunplay balance being balanced around these speeds.

aw but the thought of turning into an instant 100 mph fireball is so desirable

They talk about news cars, new map and the engine update, the upgrade limit speed probably will follow the engine, who know.

This would be a bad idea unless the maps are bigger in the future. It already takes less than 5 minutes to get from one side to the other.

They could make the cars feel faster without actually changing any of their stats.  They could add an optional animated camera that would include the old camera sway that was present in RTW-2012, and make it so that the FOV widens slightly based on the vehicle's speed while looking forward within a certain angle limit.  That way if you turn the camera to the side the FOV returns to normal so it doesn't just look weird.

Emphasis on it being optional.

Yeah, this is the right approach. Let's not forget the ramps and jumps that are made specifically for the vehicle's current top speeds, you'll massively overshoot them if they were any faster. I think an audiovisual improvement would be a big help in improving the feedback of the vehicles but it should definitely be optional.
