Did we trade lazy anti-cheat into lazy anti-cheat ?
Similarities replied to MartisLTU's topic in General Discussion Archive
Elaborate on how the engine has anything to do with it because I keep hearing this excuse everywhere and it's entirely untrue. Anti-cheat effectiveness has nothing to do with the engine. -

VAC does this as well, it will ban you just for having CE open (or it did in the past), but the thing is, it shouldn't do that. It should only ban when you attach to the game, which is what BE seems to be doing. I know for sure that BE detects CE, and some APB cheaters are currently using a custom version of CE to attach to the game to get the crosshair color for their triggerbot. BE is flawed in APB, I've already told Matt a lot of the issues it suffers from, we just have to wait now. -

If he actually attached cheat engine to the game, rather than just opening it and having it in the background, no it shouldn't and it won't. He didn't attach CE to the game. If he had, he would've been banned. He used speedhack in an offline match from what I can tell as well, if he had enabled it online, BE would've picked it up. BE bans in waves, so he would not get banned instantly, he'd get banned several days later, this is to ban as many people using cheats as possible at once, rather than letting one person get banned and then go "Ok guys hack is DT" -
Mouse acceleration is not an advantage lol. It's just a form of mouse movement that allows people who have been playing with mouse accel to keep muscle memory in tact. It's not unpredictable if it's set up correctly, that's a myth.

It's allowed currently, but it may not always be allowed, I used it on BE a while ago and had no issues. Mouse accel gamers btw.

I believe you're right, but what I meant was it's still too sided toward Gold, even if most of the game is Silver, the entire threat system should be pushed back, by that I mean a lot of the Gold ranks except for maybe the last 5 or so ranks should be pushed back to Silver, Silver should be pushed back to Bronze, Bronze should be pushed back to Green. This isn't going to work with the current population though, obviously.
-
To understand elo you must also understand a bell curve, currently, the bell is too far to the right of the curve (indicating the majority of players are high threat), pushing the bell back to the left (toward the lower threat portion) so that the majority of players are in bronze & silver would help but there is no great way to solve the current issues without more players. Seeing as there are 4 threats, green, bronze, silver, and gold, the majority of the player base should make up bronze and silver (the middle of the curve). The problem with this? Gold players wouldn't have anyone else to play with because of the low population and threat segregated districts (silver can enter bronze, gold cannot) meaning if the majority of the player base (bronze & silver) spent their time in bronze districts, golds wouldn't have many people to play against. The population is a big part of the issue with matchmaking.

New Downside Suggestion For Improved Rifling
Similarities replied to Weeb TheEpicGuyV2's topic in General Discussion Archive
IR's downside is increasing max bloom, not CJ. CJ increases bloom per shot. EDIT: IR3 -> IR -
Matching based on latency will make it very difficult for players from the SEA area of the world to find matches because they don't have their own servers and their pop is already REAL dead. That's the only worry I can really express there.

You don't understand what copyright or the DMCA does, do you? First off, the DMCA is only enforced in the USA, so how do you plan to enforce it elsewhere? Second off, the DMCA also has to do with copyright, copyright means your own, written code. How do you think these cheat developers are going to be prosecuted under DMCA when it's their own code they're using? Third, DMCA is susceptible to Fair Use, meaning if the code used is actually from the game, but is changed enough to not be in it's (mostly) original form, DMCA still can't be enforced on it. You can crack down on them for breaking ToS, but it has nothing to do with DMCA lol.

I see where you're coming from here, but we should avoid convoluted combat systems, we already have the damage of the HVR being tied to accuracy and the damage of the DMR being tied to range. Further convoluting the combat system would not be good for the game, because people would observe different effects on different weapons (or categories of weapons), which while you or I would probably not have an issue with it, you have to remember that new players just getting in to the game would have to deal with the unusual behavior of the mods/guns changing how they act depending on their category, accuracy, range, etc.

Also, I'd say you guys have been going in the right direction, but it often feels like you're moving 3 steps forward and 2 steps back. I love that you guys are working on server performance, net code, anti-cheat, etc, I believe people just want things to move along faster than they really can. Balance changes need a lot more thought put into them next time, the shotgun push had rippling effects throughout the community, a lot of my friends quit the game until the busted corner popping hell machines got fixed as a result, and I'd imagine some still haven't (and maybe won't, at least for a while) come back. Focus your balance on making guns that are not currently good better (Norseman, SBSR Coroner, ISSR-a? Anyone?) but keep the TTK around the 0.7-0.8s range, with bolt rifles being around 1.2s, if you don't like this TTK then avoid making too many changes to the TTK of weapons until you at the very least have a plan on what direction you want to take the game, rather than making some weird changes (The ISSR-a accuracy "buff" for example was literally useless,) it seems you guys try to be too careful in some areas and too reckless in others. I'd rather see some controversial ISSR-a gameplay for a patch than an entire weapon category broken to the point of CQC being nearly unplayable for 2 months. Just my 2c.

Tap fire the N-SSW or put HB2 on it and call it a day lol

everything you just said about guns being broken because of IR3 invalidates your opinion. they've made steps in the right direction, feels like we're sometimes taking 3 steps forward and 2 steps back, it's a step in the right direction, but there's still a long way to go. i'd say they've done well so far, but in reality, it has been quite a mixed bag.

Internet Connectivity Issues
Similarities replied to MattScott's topic in General Discussion Archive
Correct, EU hasn't had any connectivity issues and the issues I've had on Jericho have been few thus far. Played for several hours last night with only a small lag spike, but no kick. -
Preferably never. Anyway, I'll be by your side until the very end of APB, maybe even further if you guys end up offering something in the future that I have an interest in.

What about the money and standing bonuses? Do those not exist anymore?

Jericho's hamsters seem to be dying.

What are you even talking about? Nobody has even said anything about how you should be playing in this thread. -
This occurs because of clientside prediction, when you begin moving, you have to wait for half of your ping for the server to get it and half of your ping for the server to tell you that you've moved, but because of clientside prediction, you can move as soon as you want, even before you (or the server) have known that you are moving, however, due to this, you can begin moving against objects that you shouldn't be able to move against, however, the server hasn't been able to tell you "No, no, you can't do that." before you attempt it, this results in that stuttery feeling because the client is trying to move and the server is saying "Can't do that," this is a necessary evil when it comes to movement prediction and cannot really be fixed.

Nah man, the programmers can program so they must be magicians too, they'll just say a few words, pull a sheet up, and there will be a stack of money there. That's how it works, right?

First is unlikely, if it was a DDoS then it'd just lag the servers until they either crashed, or mitigation turned itself on. The second, cheating is not mutually exclusive with server problems. The third is a possibility. It's most likely just a minor routing issue/outage at the data center (possibly hurricane-related.) or the server having minor hiccups for whatever reason.
