[Discussion] More Focus on Balance (that isn't about weapons)?

Please... stop complaining. With the game in lo hands apb will turn into a kindergarten.

 

By 2022 guns wont do damage but fire a water splash and you wont be able to shoot in other players eyes. You wont be able to drive, only adult civilians. You wont be able to cross the streets alone, you will be escorted by an authorized gm (adult obviously). After 8 pm your character will be provided with a warm bed and you wont be able to play while its dark. You wont be able to create symbols anymore, instead you will be able to use forms with the basic colours so you learn their names. Civilians wont say anything anymore (they usually say adult words), they will play baby sleep music when they need to say something. You wont be able to use underwear anymore but diapers, whatever throusers you use will be baggy in that zone and you will make poop sounds time to time.

 

And so on. The game will be the most blanced game you will be able to ever see in your whole existence thanks to matt ;,^)

I'd suggest to do something to stop player outcomes, I mean let's say you're new in APB, playing for some time and you hit let's say about R110 by being all the time Silver and surprisingly you hit gold and decided to log off. The next day you logging in you notice dead districts with like 3-5people around, while in social it's like 150 if not more, you can't play any mission for days and you decide to leave the game because you simply can't play opposed mission cuz you're automatically redirected to GOLD districts that nones playing on.

New people are getting stomped on bronze, a lot more don't know about Advanced district select screen and they're playing on silver servers versus other gold w/o mercy, they leaving now as they were leaving every year since 2012-2013. 

Delete Threat based districts or change default district select screen into ADVANCED screen instead! Let truly new people to play fair matches in order to learn the game, WE are partially the reason why new people are leaving, instead of help they either gets used by veterans or stomped hard, I'm trying to ask alone silvers in whisper and tell them how to join Bronze servers and they were very glad they can FINALLY play vs opponents in similar skill level, guess what, a bunch of them are still playing because of that and spent money on the game, me included.

I'd personally leave the game if I wouldn't get the info once back in 2012 on gold district that I can play on other districts after a few days of solo missions I was very glad I can enjoy the game and play with others...

 

LO DO STH ABOUT THAT IF YOU WANT THE GAME TO GROW UP, PLEASE!

I'm sorry you didn't have a mother figure in your life but this isn't really the place.

At the end of a match no one loses because losing hurts children feelings. Water guns will be all the same so no one feels bad about others being bigger or better looking. You no longer pick sexes becaus thats something adult people do, you will be all the same.

There wont be factions anymore, you only fight against being unhappy and get your feelings harm.

Nerf its repair rate by 40%. I'd consider making it a consumable rather than an infinite mod that recharges magically with solar power or body heat.

Another prime G1 mod that should not have existed.. the only downside to this mod is the inability to equip other purple mods. Problem is that Pioneer-users have no use for explosives 3 or fast fix chassis, so nothing to miss out here. Straight out game breaking as stated.

 

Just like spotter, delete this ♣♠♦♣♥. Don't even try fixing it. It is a stupid mod no matter what perspective you look at it with.

 

Getting caught up by remote det can be annoying, but flak jacket is the answer. It isn't game breaking atm.

These tanks are exceptionally fast. Considering their mass, ramming power (higher than vegas even, multiplier: 3.5 vs 2.5), total health, blast radius and cargo capacity, their top-speed on top of all of this is also ridiculous at 20.9 m/s, only 2.1 m/s slower than the fastest car in the game. Nitro makes them accelerate from a halt effortlessly. Considering the cooldown of nitro being 1 minute, the initial acceleration of these tanks is never a problem.

 

Nerf those ♣♠♦♣ers.

Burn point Fuel was never an issue, though it is silly. Honestly though the dumbest Pio combo is Reduced damage green mod w/ car spawner and Fireproofing.

That's part of the problem. High burn fuel makes that dumbest Pio combo even more dumb as the mod's color doesn't conflict with the mods that make up that combo.

i never considered radar tower an issue, plus it's broke and doesnt work have the time lol. Carspawner is a far bigger issue.

same, I try to stay away from spawner at times. Though i do wish they'd give spawner the -ammo to cars like ammo does. But i fear that may end up with more annoying people using pio over vegas.

it has trouble actually marking people on radar sometimes, but if you happen to spawn within its radius you’re marked on radar until you respawn

This is a good idea, but just pop them onto the radar, maybe with a HUD ping - but leave the Tagging to weapons with Tagger. (and Fireworks if that doesn't get deleted along with Spotter Mod).

Spotter currently falls under all the other wall hack methods (Spamming fireworks and Radar Tower for example) which don't really add anything to APB.

Exactly. Why is Spotter getting all the hate when it actually needs 1 player to see, target, and track the enemies, Whilte fireworks/flare just needs them to spam it in any direction for free spotting?

flare gun has limited ammo, limited range, enemies know they are tagged, it replaces your secondary, and using it also reveals your own location even if only temporarily 

 

spotter might require slightly more brainpower since you actually need LoS to tag people, but aside from a 45s cooldown (which imo is irrelevant when spotter is used correctly and causes enemy teams to wipe, respawn, and return) it has almost no tradeoffs

I think the ammo point is moot since, like OP said, ammo is almost everywhere in SP. AFAIK Spotter's range is actually the range of the weapon you're holding, but I could be wrong on that one, I just know I land more spots with a rifle than I do with a shotgun. Also I don't think trading a Secondary is that much of a loss either, the utility/wallhack bonus of the Flaregun makes it so much more helpful to a team than another Nano or RFP. 

 

I'm happy to have Spotter adjusted/nerfed/removed but if we do we should look at Fireworks/Flares too. My suggestion would be to just make all Tags from any source only pop up if the character has LoS - like how Gun Tagger works.

im not really trying to defend either one tbh, imo the only acceptable "wallhack" mechanic is tagger and any others should be reworked to be in line with that

 

my only issue is that these items are balanced around tags showing through walls, and with that removed they'll likely join the large pile of stuff that no one bothers to ever use again - tagger is useful more because it indicates a damaged enemy than for any actual locational information, and neither spotter nor flare gun are really intended to have a damage component

Admittedly this situation is rare, but I have seen people essentially stand behind a car with ammo and spam the Fireworks gun into the air repeatedly. If they're in a hard to reach location such as on the highway this essentially means you're spotted no matter what. I'd say my main grievance with the firework gun is that it's very difficult to judge how far away you have to be from it to avoid being spotted, and to know what constitutes "hidden". It was less knowing the position of enemies that matters and simply knowing how many enemies are in a given area.

 

That aside, a way to address the "wall hack" elements of the game may be by making a change I've really been thinking about since I've started playing this game. Which is mainly that there should not be anything that always reveals your location in "real time". This idea came from playing Deathmatch and VIP finales, and realising how frustrating it is to fight someone when they know exactly where you are at all times. It completely changes APB's dynamic and not in a good way. I always found Deathmatches become this silly corner peeking, grenade hurling nightmare (More than the regular game) simply because you cannot sneak up on enemy players very effectively. I'll detail my ideas below:

  • Player markers in TDM finales (and maybe VIP) do no update in real time any more. They instead reveal the player's location every 3 seconds or so perhaps (Or maybe even 5 seconds). In this way you can't run and hide in TDM as your location is still going to be broadly known, but you're still able to surprise enemies in some way. I got this idea a few years ago when markers in TDM kind of broke for some players producing this effect.
  • Spotter could be changed to be the same - it could reveal enemy locations 3 times, with a gap of 3 seconds between each reveal. (I forget how long you are currently spotted for right now)
  • Flares and fireworks could have a lingering effect (of lets say 3 seconds) where you are revealed in real time only for those 3 seconds after detonation, but after that point the marker remains static for another X seconds.
  • Mobile Radar Tower is difficult. Perhaps you could make it so that it sends out visible pulses on the minimap, which only detect players when the pulse happens (Again could be every 3 seconds), allowing players to get close to it without immediately being spotted. My other idea was maybe to make it so you're only visible on it if you're sprinting, to re-use that old myth from the RTW days. In this way a radar tower car driving past you would not immediately spot you if you were standing still.
  • Tagger could remain exactly as is.
  • Radar Jammer could prevent you from being spotted at all when active, to add more utility to the mod.

It was still the most used car before the 4x4 got released. Highest top speed and top end toughness are way too good to pass on, unless you want to use the Pioneer.

The downside to this is that running would still be an option and probably even more powerful & frustrating.

 

Limiting the TDM area to a single area (potentially using RIOT mechanics for this) would be a much bigger improvement, I believe.
