  1. Frosi Said: "They said that they don't approve of shaders as its a slippery slope to go down." MattScott himself basically gave the official statement during the interview with Kempington.
  2. LO just dropped a small fortune to purchase G1, they hired 2 different crews to work on 2 different engine upgrades, this is in addition to the team they have working on the Live game, they just made arrangements with BattleEye, they're still working with FairFight, they just got a new Forum, not to mention whatever they've got planned for the other games G1 had in their roster, and you think they'll recover those expenditures in time for E3 next year? Keep dreaming. It costs like $30,000 to rent a booth at E3. That doesn't even factor the actual booth itself--just the space. The Booth can run a company around $80,000, and that's not even a good one. So basically, it's a $100,000 buy in for E3, and that's just to get your foot in the door. To be fair, that budget is nothing but pure advertisement. Only problem is, E3 isn't the place to spend that money when what you need is long-term awareness. E3 is used as a boost in sudden awareness or maybe some kind of reveal for something that's exceptionally noteworthy. It's not the place for an old game that was using old tech when it was released nearly a decade ago. MAYBE if they managed to get the Unreal 4 Engine by then, but that's not going to happen, and even then, that money would be better spent elsewhere--like on blogs or something. World of Warcraft can continue to be at E3 because it's practically a staple at this point--hell, it's one of the reasons E3 is what it even is today--and besides that it's World of Warcraft, and besides even that, Blizzard is owned by Activision. Little Orbit ain't Activision. I wish them all the best to get there some day, but at the moment, they're not in the big leagues like that. E3 isn't what this game needs. What this game needs is decent street cred purported by players. They literally have to reverse the flavor people already have about this game so that it's actually positive. LO is currently in a grace period right now, and they're on the upswing. So, there's positive energy at the moment. But this ball isn't going to really get rolling until earliest, Unreal 3.5.
  3. I'm going to exercise my right to ignore nonsense. /Thread.
  4. If you are using an AMD Processor like me, then you are probably experiencing the same issues I was experiencing regarding Particle Animation. The way it was explained to me was APB doesn't like AMD Processors. And that's about all the clarification I got. I had serious Frame Rate trouble. Basically, you want to go into the Settings of the ADVLauncher and go to APBCompat Other. Near the top is a setting which says Particle Space Area. I think the Default is something like 7500-7800 or something to that effect. You wanna drop that down to about 2500. You could probably get away with 5000, but 2500 is what I use. This more or less solved all my Frame Rate issues. Also, on the bottom left is a Slider. I set that to USPStyle. I change a few toggles here and there in the In-Game options, but the only thing I have to make sure I do is the Particle Space Area slider. I don't mess with anything else.
  5. That's exactly what the OP is. It's all he is. I would like to respectfully inform everyone to leave the OP alone. He's a little too touched in the head.
  6. It was 3 man, and I wouldn't say we were really gunning it. Also, maybe you can make more money. They doesn't mean it's very engaging.
  7. I don't think too many people waste their time doing it, frankly. My friends and I did about an hour of it a week ago, maximizing threat and all of that in Waterfront at the Instadrop guy and we made about 20k. You used to be able to make a lot more. It's another system in this game that wasn't thought out very well. The whole witnessing thing, LTL, all of it is just a huge mess. The business with the LtL, however, I mean look. I don't really care. But it just seems to me something that seems to always be a sore spot for half the community can't be a good thing overall.
  8. You've already used this GIF today. It was stupid the first time. You're as useful as a music album recorded in braille.
  9. Who cares what you think? I like my opinion best. So, I think LtL should be removed until something better can be made. So... cool your jets.
  10. Read the thread, genius. I know people aren't having fun with it, because they said so in the thread. Plus, I don't have much fun with it. Plus, no one I've ever played with has had much fun with it outside of its inherent trolling qualities. Which is probably why you love it, come to think of it. You're real good at trolling. "Who cares about some people crying?" Seriously? All right. Let's use your bonehead logic. Who cares if you like it? Some people don't enjoy it. Therefore it should be removed. Who cares about your crying? Look. It's a warped system. It's not actually well thought out. Just scrap it and replace it when something better is figured on. It's not a big deal.
  11. Well, that's fair to say. It's also fair to say to just remove something that causes obvious grief to so many players until such a time as it can be reworked. I would say the only actual enjoyment anyone gets out of it is probably about the same as griefing with a Dump Truck. It's fun to inconvenience people in this game for some people. I would be very surprised if there is actually a large portion of players who get RP enjoyment out of it.
  12. That's not what I said. Crims have been complaining about it since forever. It's pretty clear to me as an Enforcer that it isn't very fun. Everyone I play with as an Enforcer doesn't find it very compelling. The only time anyone ever uses it is on Easy opp. It's a troll weapon system at best. It's not that great of an idea in actual practice. What's the problem? Scrap it until we get something better. As it stands, it doesn't actually produce much fun in the game. There's no counterbalance to it. Nerfing them specifically as a deterrent from using them is not a very good solution. Just remove it.
  13. Just remove it from the game. Seriously. Just do it. 1. It's hard as shit-balls to do anyway. It's not even fun. 2. Crims can't stand it because it takes forever (not actually) to respawn. There might even be an argument in there about them causing Mission imbalances. I don't know. Don't really care, either. Point is: It's not a very fun component in general. At best, it's a Troll component. I mean, yeah, I get it--cops, arrests--yeah yeah. It looks better on paper than it actually works. I wouldn't hate it if they just removed it. I don't think anyone would miss it. Just get rid of it and end all this crap altogether once and for all. Okay, sure. Crims still get to ram-raid. But that's been nerfed to hell and back. No one does it except that one guy who thinks it's so much fun. Enforcers still get the sick lights and sirens. It's a fair trade if you ask me.
  14. Nope. You missed it. Here's a link to help you find it: It's about 3/4 of the way down the page. It's the one where I go into more detail than anyone else in this thread has bothered to do, and explain as briefly as I could without losing the value of the context how there are Casual Players and there are Not Casual Players who are highly Competitive but are called Tryhards. I used the word Tryhard, not because I think less of them. I used the word, because everyone who plays this game knows what it means. It's a literary device. It's called a symbol. I use symbols so that I can concentrate a larger topic into a smaller portion of text. You should use it sometime. And then I take that explanation and show how it is affected by our Threat System and Match-Making and how that has created this social divide between Silvers and Golds (which is the actual point of this entire thread, by the way) and it actually pin-points pretty precisely what it is people hate about this game and why it will never grow to great numbers. I don't extrapolate on those particular ideas, but they're definitely in there. I then had further communication with people who were upset that I didn't write even MORE. I explained to them that I didn't want to write a dissertation because I already knew few people would read the already lengthy post, and by then, some had already trolled it. I then ended up, in the spirit of good fellowship, explaining myself further, with mild frustration of course, because I hadn't said anything that wasn't already written in the actual first post I wrote. Go back and read that one. Then maybe we can get to your opinion about how you have a problem with a spectrum that only includes tryhard and experienced casual--which isn't even accurate to the actual spectrum I provided. I actually had a spectrum with 5 spots, and I did a pretty good job explaining what those were. It's in the post I made. Here's the link again in case you missed it the first time: It's about 3/4 down the page. You can tell which one is mine because it has my name and icon beside it. Plus, it's the longest post in the thread. I guess that means it has more generalizations than everyone else's posts... including yours. Then again, at least mine are accurate--unlike yours. I just find it curious you seem to want to make a statement about my generalizations, and no one else's.
  15. Because I didn't want to spent 10 hours writing it. That's why not do it. It's not "consciously choosing to do the wrong thing." It's "Consciously choosing not to waste too much of my time writing this crap when I already know before hand, arm-chair lawyers and trolls are going to pick it apart over superfluous non-issues like their one little hang-up somehow invalidates the entire thing." Lo and behold... Someone get me a robe and some sandals. I'm a prophet. But I have a better idea. It's going to clear this whole mess up. Why don't YOU do it? You write your own list. Stop asking me to do your homework. You do your own. You seem to have a list of all this stuff that makes the difference: You write it. Stop throwing your responsibility in this onto me. I've already taken this as far as I'm willing to take it. It's up to you to take it further. If you have some kind of counterpoint to what I wrote, then we need to know exactly what it is you're talking about. I've already written what I spoke about. I put in the work. It's time for you to stop leeching off my work, and do your own. So, let's have your list of all the stuff I missed, and we can go over it one at a time to find out if there really is this gray area spectrum you asserted and if it is indeed something that you simply either do or don't do. Until then, you need to stop holding me to some higher standard that you yourself won't even attempt to entertain. I'm the only person in this conversation who has actually stated what he's talking about in some semblance of specific detail. You need to get on my level if you want to have an actual conversation with me. If you don't want to do that, then my final option for you would be to just leave it alone. You have your opinion. And I have my opinion. You don't agree with my opinion, because my expression did not fully exhaust what you feel should be more comprehensive. And I don't agree with your opinion, because you haven't provided me with an actual opinion. Also, one last note: You don't do it, because you don't want to Tryhard. That's playing Casual. You're not playing to be hyper competitive. The people who are playing to be hyper competitive ARE doing it. All the time, they're doing it. But they aren't all who exist. There's a WHOLE slew of people who play this game simply to unwind and do things mindlessly without much concentration. These folks actually exist. The problem with this game is these people and the tryhards are constantly forced to play one another. This is due to the Threat System. Did you even read my post? You're not getting this. It's not that these folks don't know how to do it. It's that they don't want to put themselves under that kind of constant stress. You're seriously talking to me like you don't even understand the concept of "relaxing." There's nothing wrong with playing Casual.
  16. Because it doesn't matter what it is. All that shit you're talking about--you're either doing it or you aren't doing it.
  17. No. It's basic for the sake of brevity. I'm not going to write this shit out like it's a damn Tutorial for you guys. You're arguing with me because I didn't list your entire laundry list of minutia. Too bad. It doesn't change the principle.
  18. No. Don't play dumb. You know exactly what I'm talking about. Most people don't change their guns for every single mission objective change and switch up their mods and go through all that rigmarole to suit every tiny change. The reason is because the interface to do so is time consuming and cumbersome, especially if you're switching around mods. But there are people who suffer through it no matter what. You're trying to portray something that actually takes a considerable amount of time, especially if you don't already have an ammo box or something equipped, as something that just everyone does. That's the point. Not everyone just does that, even though they know to do it, because they just want to use the gun they're already using. It's not "Playing well" vs "Playing badly." It's "Tryharding" and "Casual." There's nothing wrong with being a Casual player. You're trying to make it sound like there is--which is whatever everyone does, and it's just stupidity and wrong.
  19. First of all, it's an analogy, not a metaphor. Secondly, it doesn't matter how vast it is--it's still just being utilized or not being utilized. Also, the sky is either blue or it is not blue. There is no other way to look at it. Lastly, you're just arguing semantics here, really. Nothing you've said changed the principles I was talking about. You're basically arguing, "You're wrong, because you didn't go into the minute detail." And I'm saying, "So what? You know what the minute detail is. Whatever detail you want to add to the list--fine, do it. It still uses the same principle." I'm sorry I didn't list out all the things. I tried to be somewhat brief with this. But regardless, it doesn't matter. There's no secret knowledge in the game that you insist makes up the difference. There just isn't. That's exactly what I was explaining in the post. There is no secret. You're asserting that the Emperor has new clothes, and he doesn't.
  20. I never gave a definition of Tryhard, per say, and I didn't write a fully exhaustive list of all the stuff [cheese] they do. I have been down this route too many times with this community to waste my time being so precise with these little essays. It's never perfect enough, and the longer it gets, the fewer people read it. I've already been trolled twice in this thread just for writing something long, but insightful. People are just going to have to give me a damn break on this stuff and give me the benefit of the doubt. You don't have to, but I'm not going to write a full blown dissertation on the state of this game. Having said that, one thing Tryhards do that I didn't think of at the time was constantly changing guns to suit the mission objective. But it's pointless, because it's just one more thing you're either going to do or not do.
  21. What I'm saying is these mystical catch-phrases making this stuff out to be like it's some sacred knowledge only good players know about is nonsense. You either know it or you don't know it. Are you going to try and explain to me how there is some middle ground between knowing something and not knowing something? Did you know that the Sky is Blue? You probably did. Therefore, there's no way you can't not know that. And it's quite honestly insane to me to think that most people don't know these things, since they're frankly the same things in every single Multiplayer Shooter: Map knowledge comes with repetition of play. This is probably one of the most important aspects to any Online Shooter, and is probably the only thing in this list that isn't binary. It's practically half the game. Spawns can be tricky at first, but they aren't that tricky. When you respawn, you look to see where you can't spawn. That's where the enemy is. It flashes White, Yellow, and Red. There's no gray area to question, here. Weapon Ranges can be a lot of information to tackle, but you don't even need to memorize it. It's not even something you have to micromanage. Snipers and Rifles are for long range. Shotguns and SMGs are for short range. And Assault Rifles are for everything else. There's nothing to this. You either stick with a buddy and double team stragglers or you don't worry about that kind of coordination. Again, there's no middle ground or room for confusion. You're either calling out enemy locations and damage tags, or you aren't. How can you be maybe doing this? Playing with lower Graphics Settings is the first thing anyone does in any game that runs crappy. It doesn't even have to run crappy. It's probably the first thing folks do, just to see how awesome their rig is. Competitive players always play on the lowest settings. People who don't care to be competitive probably find a balance between fidelity and performance. You either do this or you don't. Mouse DPI settings are somewhat advanced to tinker with. It's not common knowledge. I mean, most people are going to use a setting that's comfortable for them. But most of the top end players use really low sensitivity and DPI so their mouse speed equals the movement speed of the enemy player. They do this for better tracking. You're either going to do this or not do it. You either know to do this or you don't know to do it. You either use cheats or you don't use cheats. There's no, "I sort of use cheats, but not really." And that's to say nothing of the other sketchy stuff like macros. All of these, with the exception of Map Knowledge and maybe if you want to get technical about Weapon Range Knowledge, are binary. If you want to Tryhard, you're going to do all of this. If you don't want to Tryhard, these are the things you lax on. It's like a toggle. You're either doing these things or you aren't doing these things. So yes, I really am just right to say it's black and white.
  22. Quite honestly, I think the entire roster needs to be overhauled and the driving mechanics need to be redesigned. Maybe in the Engine Upgrade... I'd love it if you had to manually change gears for some cars (make it kind of arcadey) for instance. Like, you press a button or something when a light flashes to let you know to go into the next gear. It doesn't have to be complicated. Just something cool. I'd even like it if you could do some engine tweaking or something. I mean, we don't have to get Gran Turismo up in here, but a little more depth in the car mod scene could be all right in my book. Seems to me that kind of stuff would make driving more interesting, and it would add a lot of flavor to races and stuff. Other than that, I'd like to say: I own a Patriot T-25. I don't remember buying it, and I don't remember why. But I have it. To be fair, it's only a 3-Slot, so I guess I got it from the Contact? Anyway, I've been using it recently just for something different, and I have to say: I think this thing is a little bit underrated. It's got a good top speed. It handles really well. It brakes good. Has decent storage. Decent Ramming. Decent Health. I think the only thing keeping it from being something more people use is because maybe the top end could be more competitive? I dunno. Maybe the Pioneer outperforms it in every way...
