Some changes to immprove APB experience for all and especially new players(Video)

Recommended Posts

So, i have to created one video with ideas to make game more good, so here it is, i hope this will help developers(i really wanna see that they remove factional limits from vehicles, please): Video on youtube
Please leave your feedback about that to make them know that those themes are interested for us
Small list from video
1st step: rebalance cars, remove factional limits, kits
2nd step: crafting weapons from items that you got from missions, upgrade them and make trade more alive
3rd step: PVE-content, adding bots to low barrier to start the game for new players also make progress possible for empty districts
4th step: racing districts

I agree with mostly all of your points. I don't know how crafting would work in this game, but if they somehow managed to add it in intuitively, it would be great. The old "rent a weapon for 10 days" is such an outdated and annoying system.

Yeah, thank you for positive comment i think it would be good, Warframe(which is an game that was published through g1) too have that system and it works very good

Do not really agree with "remove factional limits" - the factions should be different and have differences, I do not really want to see criminals driving police cars for example, as that would really ruin the experience.

One thing which could work and might help against "Golds" stomping new players in Bronze Districts is:

 - force players to be automatically moved to the respective threat district when their threat level changes (i.e. Gold get moved into Gold district, Silver get moved into Silver district)

 - completely remove the ability of Golds and Silvers to be able to kill Bronze and Green threat players

As i said in video, factional they're only for non-donation players, if you donate it doesn't matter what faction you have and i didn't notice that factional vehicles aren't identical - they're different and for example Vaquero is better than Mikro
And all new cars, that were added in game was without factional limits: just imagine crims will get Coywolf, while Enforcers only get Varzuga Rally XS, will it be good?
Main thing that i'd like to say: i didnt talk about sirens or other things like on-board PC in enforcers cars, just cars and all

And i didn't mean that golds stomping new players - this is a problem, but i mean other thing to make game more wide with bots as well as it will lower barrier of enterence as  it is presented in some games

upd8: also removing factional limitations is simplest thing in this list: it's easy to just make them for both factions, so players can buy them from other players and then just add them into progression of existed contacts

Do not remove faction identity. Add more/revert previous changes.

Crafting weapons is just mechanical bloat that isn't needed.

APB is not a pve game and bots are not worth the effort.

Racing district was a nice meme back in 2012.

Remove witness? So crims can just ram raid freely?

Guys, when you will think "why we have 500-700 people online?", just remember this guy ^
And, Zombie, you then should remove all your donate cars that ever wondered to be factional, like Street Krew Lookout, Packer Toreador, Raptor Mikro and also Citadel/Nomad; if you dont do that and have those examples - you're just tub-thumper with double standards

Yep, as it was with 5th reputation/notoriety that you can not be killed beyond mission

And why i said things in a title of my message? Because on mine video with arguments why that will be cool to added you didn’t bring anything else in return, because i think if the developers add stun guns as well as police tokens through Armas for crimes - i think you you wouldn't even blink an eye

I do believe that removing the factional limits could be a great thing as long as the factions keeps what's distinguishing them :
   - enforcers are defined by their sirens and lights

   - criminals can put taxi signs on certain vehicle

It would make no sense if criminals were able to put siren on their vehicle, that's for sure.
But having factional restriction on certain vehicles and kits is just stupid.
If enforcers/criminals were able to get the Mako/Kissaki kit, it wouldn't change immersion at all.
This is something they've already done in the past with the cross-faction pack.
You can see enforcers with spray-cans and criminals with the radio-pack and it doesn't affect the "experience"

Yeah, i agree with that, anyway you can see who's the criminal and eforcers just by look at their symbol near nickname
We didn't even talk that enforcers from been able to look like criminals and also in the opposite direction for crims
Also guys, who have cross-faction cars like Citadel, Raptor will be able to do custom cars and sell them through the auction/trade

Merged.

And iam also apologize for being too edgy with this message, Zombie, just become so much nervous with explaining the obvious things to people(don't take it personally)

So, here's your complex answer:

1)Cars: i only told about cars, not to add sirens, LTL weapons, or tokens to criminals, only cars
Because, i can explain bigger multiplier of reward for enfrorcers by financing them from government - they also have 2* level from the start, it moves less in the opposite direction and faster for rising, for criminals there are explain that they're have bigger population than enforcers(just compare: gang from the street or a trained civilian for missions to purify the city) and they can be more used as cannon fodder(just remember how criminal's and enforcer's reacting to you when they dont know you atm), lack of LTL guns by that criminals a)didn't even need them b)it probably creating on factories, which was bought by enforcers, tokens and sirens - obviously
But what did say when somebody ask you, why some cars are closed while other not without saying "it's faction identity"?

Those are just car brands they interested to sell as much cars as they can sell, yeah, we have special cars like HUMVEE, but a)it have civilian version b)cars in APB aren't something special, they're simple cars that can be bought through dealership, as i said: it's a car brand and not selling a car just because you're a law enforcement officer sounds illogical to say the least, remember police cars from japan for high-speed pursuit: there are some Skylines and NSXs, and imagine that police department wanna buy some sport-cars but dealership said them: "sorry, we're selling cars only for your enemies/streetracers" - it shouldn't work like this
And yes: while Charge Mikro, or Nulander Pioneer can be bought only for their factions, while other cars from those brands aren't factional by the way(Charge Sentinel, Charge Cisco, Nulander Kurai) - and it's not illegal import because Bishada have HQ in San-Paro, as well, as Charge National is a american company
This is also easiest change to the game from the list: all you have to do is just change faction limit from crim/enf to both and disable sirens for crims, then add versions without sirens and last: add them for the list of progress of contacts - it can be done even on this version of engine

2) Crafting is a good mechanic for new players, because when you start the game you have only 2 weapons: STAR and something from permanent choose, and all of them comes and remain without any slots, to unlock other weapons and/or with slots - they need long time to progress roles, while in another case they can be rewarded by conditional "catalyst" and upgrade their guns by adding one slot, other guns can be bought through the trade or won from mission, that's just psychological process: your brain just activating when sees some item that you got from task and it wanna see what else you can get=positive emotions from discovering something new, yep, this needs to be finalized but on final you can get nice system which will be good for both new and old players

3)Yeah, APB was not meant to be something with PVE, but time come and this approach is terribly outdated: Crossout have both PVE and PVP modes and they come parallel to each other, Warframe have different types of missions, not only eliminating dummies, but also defend and etc - also it have raids and PVP, GTA V have company and online mode, in online you can also do very big amount of things while APB have only one path: play shooter or go f*** yourself to other games: maybe it's good for those who saying "APB is dying" while doing nothing at the same time for prevent this dying, but i think for Little Orbit it isn't nice that potential auditory leaving their game both new and old ones
And, as i said in video: it will help to lower entry barrier for new players - isn't it good that someone will stay longer in game that doesn't rips out his bones from the start and just shows him aspects of the game more smoothly without hearing in whisper that he's so bad and all bad things that you can heard from angry player who don't have a luck to get into mission with new player who's don't even know what just happening - i too saw those messages when i started to play in this game, as you can see - i stay here to this day, but agree, it's unpleasant to hear and see swearing in you direction

4)I think it would be good to see racing events in the game that have car-gameplay as main aspect - you can deny similarity with GTA, but you can't deny that main developer of APB is the original creator of GTA, which is, i always said: older brother
By the way in GTA it didn't come right away either - i remember that it comes only in Vice City and the final result was the races from Online mode where you have some nice tracks and rewards for it

Just understand one thing: i love APB with all it's pros and cons, i just spent about half of my life playing this game and i see that Little Orbit are good guys, i didn't hurry them up and didn't said "MAKE IT ASAP LAZY ***ES!!!" i just want to see population not in 3-digit numbers but in 5-digit, but even when you love this game - it will anyway annoy you, for example: only one thing that still keeps me in the game is the car-comparisons video because it's interesting for me first of all - to discover something new, yeah those videos are in most cases can be regarded as too subjective, but i didn's saw anything similar with those ones(I do not say, like "look how cool I am - I thought of this, wow-wow" just for reference)
And It hurts when people ask me: "what has changed globally in the game?" and i answering: "well, nothing, it's the same game as it was in 2011-2012" and people leave upset without even trying
I don't wanna see death of this game, and i hope, that Little Orbit will make right decisions about core gameplay mechanics with new engine - and i dont about impossible or just crazy ideas like "dont allow put items in coywolf or vegas 4x4 on missions" - i agree that this is dullness, i speak about changes that're realizable and  will breathe a second wind to the game
Otherwise...
Just remember merging american and european servers from 4 into 2 ones because of outflow of players and what we see now? 500 players population and almost dying american server whose players are already asking for merging their server with european even spit on ping
But when european server is too will be small on population because of lack of updates and new players, what will Little Orbit with each other?
Please just ask yourself this question when you scrolling through the forum once again you will go to the topic for suggestions and write literally "we don't need this" because when you figure it out yourself - it may be too late

Good luck to you, ZombieBiscuit

P.s. just comparison between two games both of which were published by Gamersfirst:

APB could definitely use an overhaul & makeover. I like the idea of basic bots in tutorial districts as well as modernized combat mechanics. Of course, the focal points of APB are customization & socialization, and that's where the game really delivers. But a proper "new player experience" is so important to any game's success nowadays.

Jokes on you. I only use a pioneer as an enforcer (and sometimes vegas 4x4 I guess).

I don't own any 'criminal only' vehicles.

I guess it doesn't affect old players which are already have almost all weapons to play comfortably but for the new players it would be good if they can just crfat something for themselves and upgrade it, it just create personality of every new experience in the game and devotion to "something that i created"

I aslo agree with you about new districts/map - that would be cool

well then why grumble about it? you just confirmed that almost every second player uses only meta-cars and its really rare to see someone drives other cars, so why not to remove those limits by the way? just even watch the situation: what if i wanna AWD car that have smaller hitbox on criminal? i dont have any options except Seiyo Espacio otherwise i can just donate and buy Nomad carpack but then it will already be close to something like P2W, right?

You're welcome to read another message for you tho

And i forgot to mention one thing

Races are completely existing in the lore of the game - you can notice it if you go to criminal's mission in waterfront which plot is to obtain carparts from macchina cosenza(lol) for Jeung Bloodrose for his participation in races(or something like that)
UPD8: it's called SPARE WHEELS and here's screenshot from database site:

Racing district is a meme because Gamersfirst was promising racing district to come from like 2011 to 2013, even having ads for it in game. Eventually they canceled it because it just straight up isn't that fun with how APB's vehicles are, mainly the top speed/handling. As well as just no real reason for it within the game.

So why not to add them right now and create more interesting tracks? San-Paro is a good city to create those, even i, with almost topographical disorientation could made 2 tracks for my tests that met 2 standards: long sprint with low amount of turns and short circuit with low amount of straights
There would only be a desire
And, no reason for who? For you only or what? I think it would be interesting to have more than just one activity to killing someone else
Of course it need to be polished like adding rules of for example, no collision, no traffic etc

That is what the devs said. Not me. And I agree with them. Racing adds nothing much to the game and just splits the already low population among even more things.

I agree with those that want faction limits - a.k.a. faction limitations - to stay intact. If you want to drive/use police equipment just make an enforcer character, same goes for criminal items/gear - if you want that just make a criminal character.

Why introduce some completely new game mechanic like "weapon crafting" that would be difficult to implement? There are so many, many. many more important things that the developers could/should work on: new districts, better missions, more open world opportunities for both factions (with those opportunities tied to one another - i.e. if more cops do open world patrols the criminal would get higher payouts for those missions and the other way around), dynamic events linked to open world stuff, new items, new clothes, new cars,...

As for racing - well I should point you to Chipp's Car Club (LINK), a player event that has been going on for years now! Players meet up, show off their newest custom paintjobs and then we have street races on predefined tracks, with us cops and volunteers doing "traffic control", so the racers have (more or less) traffic-free streets. Might not be perfect but it does work for those that show up week after week.

better to have just one activity and evarlasting PVP without diversity, cool
and again: if you do it correctly, it will not  "splits the already low population"
also the question: what's bad to split guys for the thematic they maybe will like? Or you just again saying only for yourself?
inb4: >nobody will play waterfront then
maybe because this district is bs?

True for factions, you still have opposite tasks during mission and that's the point of their diversity

Crafting is just one suggested mechanics to engage in gameplay, because APB have 2 ways for development: 1)making game wider for content like PVE and crafting, also things you noticed, that's good too - i agree with it or 2)make an apb session shooter with rating/elo
and, as you see, people mostly don't care about threats or else, so 1st way is good, yeah, we have an 3rd way: leave everything as it is now but you maybe noticed how it reflected online past 5 years

I wanna races as official or better say "independent" content which is not depends on the preparation of the players, but the preparation on the part of the developers like its represented in GTA Online - you just enter activity and then wait for the lobby

I even can imagine how it will work in future: you entering special district, put "K" button down, wait for lobby and then timer starts to occupy the starting places by participants and after you have required number of participants - the race will starts by passing checkpoints and after finish results will work like standard finish of the mission with rewards - i think it's easy to integrate as well as the APB already have missions for escorting vehicle on checkpoints
Also, they can ban using of weapons to prevent "explosive" moments

One thing I would really like to see is:

Able to progress any contact from any mission district

One thing which could work and might help against "Golds" stomping new players in Bronze Districts is:

 - force players to be automatically moved to the respective threat district when their threat level changes (i.e. Gold get moved into Gold district, Silver get moved into Silver district)

 - completely remove the ability of Golds and Silvers to be able to kill Bronze and Green threat players

Yeah, this needs to already be a thing. At the very least, make it so Trainer, Green and Bronze are the only threats allowed in Bronze district. Silver and Gold can join any silver or gold districts. But if that becomes a thing, threat should be per character and not account wide. For times when you're just chilling or want to play in Bronze for whatever reason, maybe with noob friends. But if you go ham and threat up, it'll auto-move you out. Bronze and lower need somewhere to be noob and learn without getting steamrolled by silvers and fake gold with legendries and 2k+ hours. Noobs are fresh blood and nothing can survive without fresh blood.

When you pick a district, something along these lines happens:

If district not full and player threat equals district threat, then move the player to the district

When you threat up, there's something like this:

On player threat up, send notification: You are now new threat (a little banner pops up for a few seconds on the left of the screen)

Seems like all that would need to be done is to do something similar when you threat up as when joining a district:

On player threat up, send notification: You are now new threat

If new threat greater than district threat, then show message box: Your threat is too high for this district. You will automatically be moved in 10 seconds

Get districts by population (high to low) which are not full and are their same threat, then move the player to the district

Optionally, any group members would get a message like:

On group member threat up, show message box: Group member name is now new threat and will be moved to a new threat district. Would you like to join them? (with a 10 sec timer too)

If they pick Yes, then move the player to the same district (similar to how you can move a whole group to a new district)

If they did this, I would also do a little advertising: New engine come soon, here's a video! Come join the game now and get ready! Etc...

Get some new blood in and have a place for them to noob out.

Having those differences entices players to try the other side though. Cash shop versions of the cars should be any faction IMO, just no sirens / taxi accessories. If you want a car from the other faction, you have to buy it with cash. An optional cosmetic thing that gets the game money.

4th step: racing districts

This probably won't get added until after the engine upgrade. For PvE, not too keen about bots in mission districts. But something that might work later on is something similar to what GTA 4 had. A mode called Team Mafiya Work which had AI cops chase you while you do a heist in an instanced area. Could do AI crims and have enforcer players try to take them down also. I think racing worked the same way, everyone spawns into an instance of the district.

It might split the population a little bit, but it will also bring in new players and keep existing ones that burn out on PvP. People who would mainly play AI most of the time, also probably aren't the type who would play a PvP only game. Those new PvE players might give the PvP a go and vice-versa. With a healthy population, it would work fine.

The population is low because there's not many new players. There's not many new players because they get rofl stomped by silvers and fake golds. Silvers and golds rofl stomp new players because the population is low. And around and around it goes...
