  1. Just don't let people edit configs. Lock the files down and only let settings be changed in-game through the settings menu. Something like an Advanced users configuration section. So if player NEED to tweak these files for extra stability or performance, LittleOrbit will have already gone through and made sure that these settings do not have an effect on whether or not a player has an advantage using them outside of performance and stability (stuff like removing ragdolls, grenade smoke, and muzzle flash are examples of effects that should not be allowed to be turned off)
  2. As much as I hate them, a battlepass would give incentive to logging in every day and playing. But be more loving with this if it is ever to be added because a greedy battlepass can be spotted from miles away.
  3. Every menu in the game needs to be enhanced. They were all designed for a 4:3 screen it seems so a lot of menus are really small and hard to navigate through. Making bigger interfaces for shops and the mailbox would be a great first start for these areas. I'm not really sure how the HUD could be enhanced besides the backend. (code and such) I suppose removing those stupid yellow prompts that appear at the top of the screen that gives you info on random stuff in the server. Higher quality crosshairs as well as fixing them so they actually show the player the correct bloom when firing your weapon. I always set my hud size to either 50 or 100 so I can be sure about how much my gun is actually blooming when firing.
  4. wonder if the servers can be expanded at all. 80 people 40/40 is just not enough. Hopefully this phasing thing will be black magic like Matt makes it out to be
  5. Am I weird for really liking the old RTW hud? It looks a lot cleaner.
  6. Wait the bloom isn't HD? brooooother
  7. cause they're supposed to be smoooookey. It would be kinda cool *if* this game takes off to allow tracers to be effected by weapon skins. but that idea is at the end of the rainbow
  8. They look cool, but after hearing an argument for Saints Row, that style of tracer would at least have to be sped up a lot to make sure shooting bullets didn't feel clunky or sluggish
  9. https://imgur.com/HzJxQV4 Healing brush go brrr Still what is wrong with the tracers?
  10. I'm prob gold for real, i really stopped caring a while ago. But I loved this one video I watched which described perfectly what makes apb "fun" and it's that feeling of you're a badass in your own action flick. When you're in your vegas all 4 wheels screeching as you drift into the objective jumping out guns blazing at the enemy. Now if you played either the games F.E.A.R or Trepang2 (demo) both these games have that gun-fu feeling. The exaggerated tracers that rip through the enemy when you hit them is just really fun to see. I figured with this potential 64bit upgrade we could see them return as they were a performance concern in the past.
  11. I haven't checked in a while, probably green. But I just thought they looked nice. Made engagements look like an action movie.
  12. Can weapon tracers be re-activated with this 64bit upgrade or nah?
  13. Look on the bright side, you have content to do now :^)
  14. I want pop shooting obliterated, Just add a crouch to standing and vise versa transition animation to prevent this.
  15. Funily enough I think the game is in a better state than it ever has been. Most guns are usable albeit I wish some were buffed to level out the competition but I understand not wanting to buff weapons you have to pay for. Currently the "unplayable" part for me is how often the game stutters especially in engagements when you you really need the smoothest gameplay. Honestly I'm impressed with the devotion to understanding this game. He identified that trying to switch APB to a new engine was not going to be feasible, It started with trying to finish what GamersFirst started (Which was probably a lie just to get LO to buy G1) and after was it 2 years or so they realized that a lot of corners were cut in G1's efforts. So they decided they would try to start from scratch. They got a lot done. So after realizing that it was just not going to be possible to migrate engine they took a step back, and worked on some Work for Hire projects. Then it was finally understood that APB does not simply run on Unreal Engine 3, but an early version of Unreal Engine + A lot of Core code rewrites Real Time Worlds made to get the features they wanted into the game. So with this identified Matt has so far come to the conclusion that upgrading the current engine would make sense. And not all is loss as when working on the engine upgrade a lot of the code can work for apb 1.2 which when this 64bit upgrade is done will become apb 1.3 iirc. You clearly weren't around for that ask me anything stream a while back. But the new player experience is stuff they have already thought about and have ideas for. Also I do kinda agree with: "also lost their basic decency and sportsmanship in the process." even though I also think that's crap. I think you have to be a pretty deprived person to only care about winning but it's not APB's fault you're like that. IIRC the netcode improvements will allow for phasing to become a thing. What's that? Well APB's matchmaking is not actually that bad. Part of it is you can see how strong opponents are which is not a good thing for anyone. Seeing your threat puts you in a position where you feel like you have to defend that rank. Cause if you're not gold you're bad at the game to which does confirm your point about only caring about winning. So the sooner threat is hidden from player eyes the better. Next back to phasing, the matchmaking currently can only match players Enforcer vs Criminal (duh) districts only hold a max of 80 players. So what does that have to do with match making? well the matchmaking only matches people in that district, so it can only pull people from those 2 groups of maximum of 40. So this leads to repeat matches and poor match making simply because the game can't do better. I personally think Fight Club should matchmake crims mixed with enforcers to keep the matches fresh and balanced. So the plan with Phasing is to allow the matchmaking to pull people from other districts to play with or against you. This in theory should massively increase the amount of people matchmaking can use to put against you and with you. So this WOULD be a technological breakthrough that will help the game out massively. Then people would be doing that all the time, /abandonmission allows you to leave an empty game (which should be removed) . Granted if you punished players for leaving matches then I suppose that match quitting would be acceptable. (like leaving too many matches, have a matchmaking cool down) Matt stated before he does not want to bog down the game with more advanced AI. How ever I think a stepping stone they could try for halloween could be a simple mass scale zombie survival mode. Where everyone has to team up to defeat waves of the undead. The ai would not have to be complicated and it could be a generally fun event to test out PVE related content. I dont think anyone thought the engine upgrade would save APB, it's the stepping stone that should allow future updates to be easier to implement. You NEVER want to add features to a code base that doesn't easily allow that as you could end up adding one thing then breaking 7 other things in the process. In the end ill keep saying this. If you don't like the game just don't play it. A lot of other games are available, join the APB discord and watch for notifications on news and info. Then come back when you think the game is in a better spot
  16. I feel like I understand the struggle of, trying to untangle an Alien's hairdo without making it mad On paper it sounds easy. Upgrade APB to a new engine But clearly was much harder than original thought. I wouldn't be surprised if LO was deceived into thinking the engine upgrade was almost done when buying GamersFirst Yea it took them four years to realize that the Engine upgrade was a bust. But then learned the kind of game APB is on the inside and actually are managing to clean up code (I hope) I been optimistic that they can upgrade something with this game. The store changes alone were amazing as G1 was way overpricing everything. I truly believe that once the foundation is set LO can push out meaningful updates.
  17. Yea really. Although shotguns can also semi-pop shot by shooting ducking into cover shooting ducking into cover etc. I almost wonder if you could fix a lot of apb's problems by making player movement slower when shooting. Then again, that also destroys the pace of the game.
  18. Pop shooting? Crouching then popping back up and clicking so you only expose yourself for the shot your taking. They should really fix this, it's a really cheap tactic especially when its abused.
  19. I don't think the game ever planned on having a low player base, that's part of the reason matchmaking is so broken. Matt's idea of phasing players is going to be great for increasing the amount of players the matchmaking system has access too. And I imagine if the game consistently makes good matches players will stick around. I mean imagine if all bronzes stayed in bronze, silver in silver, gold in gold, and Trainee/green in their servers with a full population for each. The match making would have a much easier time matching skill levels. But since that will never happen, phasing sounds like an amazing idea as long as it's relatively unobtrusive, example pulling you from a full server into an empty one just to make a match. I also hope that new netcode improvements can allow them to increase the max players per district A final improvement would be just make fight club not Faction based: crim vs enforcer. allow the matchmaking to mix the teams up to create a more varied games so that you're not fighting the same people 10 matches in a row.
  20. Not besides LTL and Enforcers having cars with flashing lights. What else do they mean besides lore? Merged. yesterday a not max rank had speed hacks on EU. You could easily tell it was infact a speedhack for 2 reasons A: No one else was teleporting across the map B: The speed hacker was constantly running into walls as if they couldn't control how fast they were going. Hope LO can put in better server side checks that can tell if a player is moving to fast then rubberband them
  21. How important is lore to people? Would it be better if the game just matchmade everyone against everyone instead of crims and enf or would that have some kind of adverse effect on balance. At least that way in theory the matchmaking has a larger pool of people to pick from. I guess now that im thinking about it, how would the game determine whos attacking vs who's defending
  22. I hope this is the case. Hopefully maps can just get some modern touches with more pieces of cover or something.
