Community standards of behavior.
Recon_Puppy replied to Fenton's topic in General Discussion Archive
The problem with that is the overall toxicity is unattractive for new players, just because you ignore them doesn't mean everyone does and it still poses a problem for the new people wanting to test out the game. This isn't to say we have to ban them for toxicity, that'd be too much of an overreaction. However a chat timeout would be a good countermeasure to detected toxicity. -

That doesn't exactly solve the overall toxicity, yeah it may block it from your view but its still there. -

Well, sadly, APB is a Salt lake at this point. -

This is sadly more true than not. Thats why I'm taking steps to make sure forum posts with me in them keep a professional standing and remain unbiased, which is why I presume that no one responds to mine other than the upstanding Glaciers. There aren't enough people based around customer support in LO's reign, it needs to be improved and measures should be taken against the excessive toxicity just like with the Teamkilling in the game. Its not enough to report it, it should be monitored better. -
Thats fair enough, they are sticking to their guns, and following the decision they made to the end, which is commendable. Arguably I don't think that the game would flop with just the engine upgrade. I just personally don't see that being the case, why I can't? I don't know. I just don't see it that way, the thing I've wanted the most in all of my time playing the game (On and Off since about 2015) has been an engine or a graphical update or at least performance improvements. I really want to see the game thrive once more, but I don't believe LO is taking the right approach.
-
Oh, its fine to repost it as long as you believe in what you said. Thank you for the response by the way. I agree, Riot mode will fail and I haven't heard that they planned to release the engine upgrade at the same time, if thats the case its going to be worse off than I assumed. They should focus on the Engine upgrade and Customer support imo.
-
I'm starting this thread because people have made good points on both sides of the argument involving RIOT mode and the engine upgrade. Is it good to get new content in the game? Yes. Absolutely. Is it time for the new content? No. Absolutely not. The time for the content isn't going to be soon. We NEED the engine upgrade before any content expansion. I'm saying this to have ease of introducing new content. If you wait on content and upgrade the Engine, however long that may take, then you'll know the code necessary for changes and be able to properly organize things on the backlines. We need you, LO, we do. We need you to follow your heart and consult your mind when it comes to these decisions. RIOT mode won't bring as much as you hope, not in the game's current state. Regardless of the server you are on, anyone can tell there are issues with the game that needs to be fixed, and content expansions on an already broken engine is just going to make things worse. I know that people are going to disagree, and thats fine. Something needs to be said though, and it feels like (from my end) that any advice from the playerbase, when talking about criticisms that are constructive, seem to not be getting through, not being looked at. I want to see APB thrive just as much as the next guy, I want to see APB return to the popularity that it could be, its just in this state.. Thats not going to happen. As for the community of APB, those who are still playing, and those who have left, please I want you to give feedback, let me know your thoughts and please, lets keep this as professional as can be. And lets keep a neutral tone in this and be as unbiased as possible. @MattScott

Loitering in a " Action District " yes/no?

Alani, I have to commend you for keeping this discussion at least somewhat professional, it helps when talking about things. That being said, there is a point where we've derailed a topic to the point of getting lost in the meaning, and I believe we have reached that point, if you'd like to message me in some form, be it in-game if you so choose, you can. Ellenoi or Ellienoi is who you can mail. -

It is legitimately Open-world in the way that you can go around the districts without being forced to do missions. There is a reason that Auto-ready isn't a thing that happens anymore. People can do what they want in the game, even if that means loitering. There is already an AFK system in place you don't need to add a kicking feature. The fact of the matter is that population won't get fixed until the game improves and the game won't improve until LO decides to put aside Riot mode for now and focus on making the performance better. As it stands LO is spreading their resources too thin, they need to bulk up and focus on performance issues and customer service. There is no issue only the OP's personal dislike of people who are hanging out and having fun their own way. If you need an example of a game that isn't Open world, let me direct you to Overwatch, or any battlefield game, or here is a great thought Call of Duty. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have loitering to do. -

You still don't get it. Those who are loitering are waiting for the game to get better, when the game is fixed you'll have more people in mission districts doing missions. Thats it, point made. The game is legitimately Open-world, it may not be as big as say GTA 5, but it is open-world nonetheless. Here, have fun telling me how wrong it is to enjoy the game my way. The twitch clips don't seem to be working, so my apologies there. -

Let me put it in "Simple Man's" terms. Loitering = Okay Missions = Okay Socializing = Okay Attacking people for not playing the way you play = Oh dear god no. You have to understand this game isn't meant to just be missions every single moment. Even the OP's post would backfire because you can't guarantee Opp in a mission. This game is Open World for a reason, allow people to experience it as they want. -

I don't believe there is a legitimate point being made here. The OP makes it sound like anyone who doesn't do what he wants out of the game is wrong. That is a horrible mindset to have. This type of game isn't like Battlefield where if you aren't participating in the match you are hurting the team. This game was founded on people doing what they want to enjoy the game, and that means any way they choose. He is lumping in people who are hanging out and Bounty Hunting and whatnot with those who grief missions, TKing or Throwing the mission. There are no similarities and the fact that he is attacking others for playing how they want is very unprofessional. If he wants to do missions then by all means, do them. 3 or 4 people not doing missions won't affect matchmaking more than Matchmaking is already affecting itself. -

I don't think you both get it, the matchmaking in the game is broken, regardless of people loitering. Why is that? You may ask, its because the game has gone too long without care for it and thats precisely why these people are doing this, They want to be able to do missions again but LO is preventing them from doing so because they don't want to address the issues the games has but want to for RIOT mode into an already broken game. The inclusion of such will likely be the breaking point for the game, especially on Jericho. The game doesn't have the pop for a broken content expansion. Believe it or not, those who are "Loitering" as you say are doing you all a favor. They aren't holding you back in missions, they aren't griefing you, they are letting you work for your stuff and progress, not that most of you need it with being max rank. My point is you should be appreciative of them for keeping people interested in the game and bringing them back in, and most of those that are brought back will do missions so it works both ways. -

The boycott falls within the category of free speech, they are allowed to do it and express it as they want as long as it doesn't negatively effect everyone. That being said the boycott isn't stopping you from doing missions. They aren't stopping you from getting opp, they are playing the game and having fun in their own way. Thats how the game was meant to be. You interpret the game as you want and play it as such, no one has the right to tell you that you can't do that, especially no one who is part of the same community, another player. You could say it, but it has no power. Also, I am heading to bed so I'll respond when I get back up. So feel free to respond. -

I'm not basing my posts because of how I "feel". I am legitimately concerned with the form that the OP chose to take with this discussion. Its poor taste and poor execution. A post on a topic like this should be neutral and unbiased. The OP is not. Protesting is a very valid thing to do even in game. It has even been stated in the forums of what they want changed, LO is just focusing on content expansion first instead of trying to fix the game. As is the boycott is not harming the game but helping it. The boycott is actually bringing people in because they see the fun that you can have in the game. The main reason we don't have more people in the game doing missions is because of poor performance and thats what the group wants LO to see, and fix. Its not a bad thing, they want LO to come out and own those performance issues, fix the game so all can go back to normal. RIOT mode should not be attempted, not while these issues remain in place. The whole purpose of the boycott is to show people just how much better off the game is screwing around because the game is unenjoyable any other way due to performance issues. Matt Scott has even addressed these issues and realizes how much of a problem they are. As far as myself, and the group can tell, nothing is being done to solve them, its getting ignored. We don't want the game to be abandoned, we want the game to be better than it ever has been, and for that to happen LO needs to step up and do something about the problems the game itself has. This isn't a community issue, this is a game issue. Fix the game, you fix the community. -

The OP is actually very much attacking, all you have to do is read it, its attacking the population that likes to have fun in the game. This isn't a thread discussing an issue. This is a thread that discusses a personal dislike of a certain group. There are real issues in the game i.e. server lag, to some degree poor optimizations (though it is better than before), low pop on it's own is an issue, but not how people play the game. Now, let's say that a group just jumps into the game and sits at Double B doing Absolutely nothing (Actual Loitering), that'd be an issue, but to a certain degree, the group he is attacking is actually doing a boycott of missions until things are fixed. Most of what I did in the game was Missions, and I have a few livestreams on it. However, not once did I say "Why are these people doing this? This isn't the way to play the game." No I said," Oh, that looks cool." and continued on my way. There are complaints of mission queue times due to fake loitering, maybe currently with low pop, but you have to realize the pop will increase with improvements to the game, lessening the impact of fake loitering. Again, you are attacking just as much as the OP, you want to do missions, they aren't stopping you, and the amount of people who ride Dump Trucks is miniscule compared to the people doing the missions, I've been there. The only detriments are those who use the trucks as grief trucks. -

I get it, you legitimately care for the game and it's population. This just isn't the right way to solve something that isn't an actual issue. The game needs to be fixed first, if the game gets fixed LO could start promoting the game drawing new people in and bringing old people back into missions, then LO could focus on content expansion. I want to see this game thrive just as much as the next person, but attacking and pushing away part of the already small community is more detrimental than it is helpful. Threads like this divide the community on it's own, now more than ever the community should be banding together and trying to keep the game afloat for LO to fix, not attacking each other. -

I'm not going to let 1 person's way of playing define everyone else's. To think your way of playing is the only way to play is ignorant and misguided.Video games are entertainment for a reason, its up to player interpretation, even games that have stories allow you to screw around and have shenanigans because the developers realize that is also part of gaming. It doesn't have to be tryharding all the time, or only this one singular way of playing. The more that happens in games the less people play them. And as a news flash, the less people that play the game, the more likely it is to just shut down and make all your missions/Armas weapons be wasted and lost to time. Like it or not, people should be allowed to play the game as they want, as for the player made events, I know that they specifically choose the least populated district to join, even if the district is empty. Most of the time its on Citadel so that doesn't leave as much wiggle room. You have to understand that missions isn't the defined way to play the game, its an Open World (Technically) sandbox shooter, the design of this game is for people to play and enjoy the game how they want to. Trying to punish people for having fun in this game is like punishing people in GTA 5 who don't buy shark cards, or who don't do missions but act like a civilian when driving. Its counterintuitive and shouldn't even be considered.
