  1. Hey guys,

I was planning to make an announcement regarding GM/Mods this week. However, I want to point out that I had to spend a lot of time today on managing users who are unable to follow ToS and our guidelines. Unfortunately, this takes up time I could be using to design the upcoming program for volunteer Moderators and GMs.

My goal as a Community Manager is to communicate with all of you as much as possible. Right now, I'm communicating that persistent poor behavior amongst forum users slows down the process of announcing really fun and great things that I want to bring to this community. Even our ability to properly set off events in-game is affected by our constant need to monitor and supervise behavior that is quite frankly toxic.

These are the behaviors that are currently distracting me and my team and pulling us away from forward movement:

    • Insulting other players or group of players
    • Racism
    • Naming/Shaming
    • Spamming
    • Pornographic images
    • Posting support replies/Private messages from other players

Regarding support tickets, this will take time. There are a LOT, and I mean a LOT, of support tickets right now that we are in the process of resolving - all varying from simple to incredibly complex. I understand that all of you want your tickets resolved yesterday, but we are asking for everyone to be patient and to just chill out so we can focus on resolving them asap.

    Thanks everyone for reading this,

    Lixil

Lixil, can you elaborate on what the duties/roles of mods/GM's will be?

Will the GM'S just be the equivalent of the SPCM program? (Where they have no authority, but are simply ingame to mentor new players,)

And will forum moderators be allowed to ban/suspend people?

GMs will monitor the chat, answer players' questions and generally help them out. If they encounter a cheater they will be reporting them to our support or me, so that we can investigate on our own.
Forum mods can give you warnings, which I will be monitoring. These measures are to ensure the forums stay clean, and that players follow the rules without issues.

Neither GMs or Forum mods have permission to suspend/ban any account. The game is handled by support, the forum by me.

The worst part is, there are a few good people here who can handle the position, but I suspect most of them won't go for it and all the wrong people will.

Lixil, (I had to think about whether to suggest this, cos I know you're good at what you do), but can make one suggestion based on my own experiences as a GM on Football Manager Live? If GMs are going to have serious obligations re: checking on player behavouir or being generally being available to players at all times when logged on, then I think they should ideally have a separate GM account and their identities kept anonymous from their main account. Or have their GM tags only show up on one or two of their characters. If they're required to be "on" all the time, there's a good chance that perfectly capable and well intentioned people will just get burned out and not want to play the game, because to play the game they have to also GM at the same time. That'll leave you with people who are attracted to the 'power', as such. I've seen it happen. The GM team at the start of FML (which didn't include me, btw) was a lot stronger than the one at the end of it.

And yes, I know people are reading the anon account suggestion and thinking "Are you out of your head? Have you forgotten the Mod Squads?", and yes, that's a fair point. They were anonymous and they were at best horribly inconsistent or at worst absolutely terrible, and someone of them (imo) abused the anonymity. But that was (imo) partly because the more capable mods had left or fell out with Tiggs and the Mod Squads didn't seem to be particularly well managed or supervised. I suspect Little Orbit will have a much tighter grip on the reigns.

First of I really do appreciate everyone giving me suggestions and I really am grateful players contacting me regarding their concerns. I am here to answer any concern or a question you guys have.

GMs are not allowed to give their identity out, that's a ticket to be kicked out of the team. They will have a separate GM account that has no ties to their private account. They will also go through a training process before they are given a GM account, should they fail any of training they will be declined.

I understand everyone's worried, but please keep in mind I used to have volunteer teams and they worked awesomely. I don't give access to any Bill or Joe that applied nor I am thinking to keep this as loose as players seem to see.

Again not EVERY player that applies will be accepted and each and every single one of them will be interviewed, backchecked and so on.

Ok... so i now know that forums are still under development, cuz my specific reply to multiple replied threads, ain't working.

Yes you are right, community observations are very important as well indeed, but that's mostly for the qualified professional to decide, i mean imagine them never having to hire ppl that know better and just replace it with this small community for example, i know we love the game and all, but in order to please future members, it will require futuristic adaptation, not just current mass mindset from a community that's old as almost a decade, and which haven't progressed much with the time standards.

Its hard to foresee things, but none the less its the most relevant for a game to survive in the future.

We all know how fast tech advances nowadays.

There could be higher companies popping up... better versions of the same concept, big companies don't have problems with developing new concepts that were before attempted at, but unsuccessfully.

I love this game too, but we need to give them a break, cuz all i seen lately from the community, its way too much tension.

Off topic regarding your comment. Our multi-quote works like this. http://prntscr.com/joq1j0 click the + on the post. On the right bottom you will see this http://prntscr.com/joq1se

Please let me know if these don't work for you.

Did you mean FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)?

F&Q reads like a hybrid of German F&A (Fragen & Antworten / Questions & Answers) and FAQ.

    _____

On the topic of avatars: Will you add support for non-square avatars (e.g. 120x100 px)?

lol that's exactly what I meant. I wanted to write Q&A and just quickly changed it to the FAQ or as I called it F&Q xD

I believe that's IP board question, I will see if they have anything new regarding this.

Will we have unlimited likes on the forums and will the dislikes be removed?

The unlimited option was available to the players from the start, however as players started abusing those I was forced to set a limit of 10. Dislikes no longer give negative point to the players - they can still 'dislike' something however it will not affect players account.

    What happened to the clubs?

Sadly there seems to be an issue with Ipboards regarding this feature. We have reached out to them so that they can fix the bugs. Once that is done, the feature will be reinstated.

Can we change our forum names?

You can change your name once every 60 days.

Can I post gifs or only still images? Can we do animated gif profile/signature/cover photos?

Animated pictures are only allowed in posts, and not in profile/signature/cover photos.

    Is this forum 18+?

These forums are PG13. APB reloaded is not going to be the only game we have on these forums and this rule is for the GamersFirst forums (which APB falls under).

I want to join the moderation team, can I send you a message?

You can reach out to me through the private message system. regardless, I will be posting a 'Looking for Mods/GMs' thread sometime this week. Once that is in you will have to apply and send your application to the e-mail provided.

Can I send you a message regarding my banned account?

Contacting anyone from our team on the forums will get you a basic response: Write a support ticket. We do not work in such a private manner, all we do has to be documented. For now, support has given clear instructions to wait for BattlEye to be implemented and after that, they will go and review each case one by one.

Please don't accept just any players as GMs or forum moderators. Most people will want to apply to show off or abuse their power or just won't do what they should. In fact I don't think recruiting actual players as GMs is a good idea. It would most likely end badly, players don't have the professional approach which will be required. I would definitely be interested in joining some kind of testing team though in the future to help with any sort of balancing or new system if that would be a thing.

Thank you for your suggestion, however, I will be accepting players as GMs. They do have to go through an interview and stuff like that. My current GMs are players and they are doing an amazing job.

Thank you for the reply, this pretty much answered my questions.
I asked "why" because I can see potential abuse happening with player GMs, but this is mostly just my experience with the game and it's community speaking up, and I realize that this will most likely not be the case. That said I see absolutely no problem with it as long as they're kept on a tight leash or monitored closely, etc.

This a reason why GM's will not be allowed to do any banning or anything that allows them to do any 'abuse'. When I say not allowed I mean not have the option of doing so. If a GM is misbehaving I count on players to report that to me.

  10. I will not be taking any of the old teams there was in the past. If anything I will create something new - however, this is something in the future.

Players will be allowed to do both GM or Forum moderating. However, they will have to apply. Applying doesn't guarantee 100% that they will be accepted.

Not sure what do you mean by why... Having players who help out the community and who have knowledge of the game helps both players and the company.

I will not be giving any more information regarding this. If you wish to apply for the program, you will be able to once I announce it.

Hi there team and everyone, so far its going great. Here are my suggestions

    1) Please separate the game and forum suggestions. The game suggestion need their own board.

    2) Please come up with a guideline for signatures. Are gifs allowed? What is the max size a jpg or a gif can be? The previous forum had good rules. Im already seeing oversized signatures that are making the forum look ugly and you just have to scroll more. How many lines of txt allowed? I like to 3 to 5 line rule, size 12 max or whatever.

    3) Please remove downvotes. All it does is bring in trolling and a negative atmosphere. You want to express your opinion but some kid doesnt like it? Downvote. You post a fact, downvote. Where there is only upvote, its better.

EDIT: 4) Im not seeing any language rules in the Forum rules. Im assuming this is a child friendly forum? As in, no swearing and what not like before?

    1) I'm currently making these.

    2) Guidelines are posted where you made your sign. No gifs allowed.

    3) Downvotes don't go negative anymore.

    4) This is PG13. However, you can say the f word.
