Insane FPS drops when... moving mouse?

Recommended Posts

Topic name.

I got a pretty decent pc which gives me high FPS but i get insane FPS drops when moving mouse. both while ingame or in the menu.

Changing mouse DPI or polling rate have no effect.

You can try lowering the USB poling rate on your mouse, but it will increase input lag and turning the camera might not looks as smooth.

On my old PC, I have to turn off HPET, both in Windows and the BIOS, or I get massive fps drops when moving the mouse.

Firstly to check if u have HPET enabled or disabled in windows:

1) - Run command prompt as Administrator and type:
"bcdedit /enum" without quotes and press enter.

2) - You will see a list show up - look for "useplatformclock".
If it is set to NO it means it's Disabled in windows and if it's set YES it means it's Enabled in windows. If "useplatformclock" is not shown in the list at all, it probably means your motherboard either doesn't support it - or it's simply disabled in your motherboard bios.

Instructions on how to Disable HPET in Windows:

1) - Run command prompt as Administrator and type:
"bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformclock" without quotes and press enter.

* (If "bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformclock" doesn't disable it, try "bcdedit /set useplatformclock false". The verify with "bcdedit /enum")

2) - Next go to Device Manager (search "device manager" in taskbar search)
then go to "System Devices" > right click "High precision event timer" > click Disable.

Then Reboot your PC for the settings to take effect.

this was the case back in the old days (pain and suffering with AMD X2 240), when CPUs were so slow that even high mouse polling rate caused higher cpu usage and, lower FPS overall because of that.

but now i have this rig https://systemprofile.net/p/1/kidi

and this is now more like an APB's bug.

will definitely try to play without HPET (if that is still possible).

also, thing i've noticed: when using the default 128fps cap - my fps doesn't drop below that value, no matter if i do move my mouse or doesn't

soo... use the game set fps cap? isnt 128fps locked enough? why would you need 500fps in the design editor anyways?

i would not waste my time posting this if it only happend in the design editor...

but it is the most intense & easier to reproduce and demonstrate.
