  1. Lag won't be an issue.

You throw a smoke grenade, it just tells the server that an item is on the floor.

This triggers the smoke effect, make the smoke effect client sided and only so the people in the match see it.

Note, client sided means your PC does the rendering, the server will not control anything to do with the smoke particles just announce to your game client where the smoke originates from.

  2. APB is dying partly due to new players not being treated fairly?

To this statement I would disagree as if you go back in time to when APB peaked none of this was an issue. Weapons especially ARMAS were OP yet the game was not losing players drastically.

Move forward to when the newer mods came about, did these changes start killing the playerbase?

No, new players came, old ones left, the cycle continued.

What I disagree with is the general assumption that APB is losing players due to new players not being able to equip the said mods in this thread.

APB is not new user friendly due to other issues such as match making, threat / dethreating.

    What does it do?

It gives the higher geared player a false sense of fairness within the match. Equal mods, the new player is being treated in a fairer manner the chances are he / she will stay.

No, this does not change the simple fact that a new player against someone with more experience is likely to have the advantage regardless of gear / mods. The real solution is not to provide a false sense of hope, it is to deal with the match making / threat system.

APB is dying due to what?

Lack of content, lack of progress, out dated concepts, visually lacking, it is stale and clearly suffering a cheat crysis (hopefully about to change). To revive the game it needs to be broken down back to basics and reworked. Player input is good but there are a lot of ideas floating around that do not attract the "next generation gamer". No disrespect to the long time APB players but as you get older you sometimes lose focus on things and always prefer the old ways. This old way of thinking, not looking to go beyond the possibilities is what can and will kill a game.

APB needs to change in ways that go beyond simply unlocking mods, why do I play, why do you play, why are you still around, why did you not quit as a new player?

Questions that will have different answers depending on who you are and where you are at (in life / the game).

My point here is that thinking of ways to retain / attract newer players is sometimes best left for fresh minds to answer and contribute. Little Orbit seem like freshmeat so see what they do first to address some of the issues in the game. They have a plan on how to revive APB and new ideas that are not going to be to everyone's liking but it may well prove to be APB's success.

  3. The Idle temp is high, should be closer to 30 deg C.

The max operating temp range is 62 Deg C for your CPU.

APB is like a stress test, it causes the CPU to draw more power which can cause it to be unstable.

Did you manage to place a fan directly over the motherboard?

If you are able to try 1 stick of RAM at a time (hope you have 2x4GB) to see what happens it will help determine if it is temp related.

I know the radio silence and lack of clear date was frustrating for a lot of players. We will do better in the future of giving more of a timeline and heads up.

I don't think anyone is complaining with your current standards, much better than the previous developers.

One question I do have about the new anti-cheat, I understand that you do not wish to publish names of banned players but have you considered a monthly or quarterly report (numbers only)? To at least ease the mind of players that San Paro is being cleaned.

The current systems were designed for a large players base.  This game does not have a large player base.  Trying to ignore the fact that our player base is minuscule and keeping the system as it is currently designed is flawed.  APB was not suppose to be a full team of gold threat veterans in the silver district against a team of new players whos rank is less than 100.  The "system in place" does not work for a small player base because new players are often matched up with veterans.

Joker tickets can be farmed in FC, but no new player is going to farm enough to keep up with rank 195 mods they need every week especially if they only have low level contacts.

You honestly think a new player is going to stand a chance against a player like me who has all the mods, open slot weapons, Volcanos, Ogre, Medusa, Alig, DMR, etc, as well as 10 years of experience with the game?  Trust me, any new player against me is going to find it impossible to win in APB.

We need to level the playing ground and try our best to retain new players instead of keeping it impossible for them to even fight back.

Match making is flawed and trying to introduce barriers is detrimental overall to player experience. Let us keep all these new players together and give them a "fair" match.

The term "fair" should not be used as an excuse.

Everyone to this day, especially the ones that have been playing the game for 5+ years didn't get to where they are by having it easy and "fair". You get better by being better, the less help you have and the more ambition / determination you bring forward is what makes you a better player. Skill is earned and the more you push against the odds the quicker you develop as a player.

I already pointed out that your subjective playstyle is irrelevant, the mods a player uses are also irrelevant, as mentioned Vet vs Vet, your 195 mods are not a game breaker.

What takes someone 10 years to learn may only take someone else 10 seconds. Do not underestimate the new player or assume you are better.

  6. I would say the players that dethreat are not being honest with themselves, instead of wanting to be better they choose to farm weaker opponents.

This is the true definition of being negative.

It also seems like a lot of players are weak minded, no self motivation or confidence to go out losing. To lose a game is not what makes you a failure, not wanting to improve and get better makes you a failure. The true definition of being a failure.

Words from the wise: Don't look to be someone you are not. Be what you are knowing that everyday you have the opportunity to work towards being better than before.

it wouldnt kill the progression system any more than the ability to buy and use the original mods off the marketplace killed the progression system when r195 was the max

The idea decreases the interest for players to lvl up, give it to them early instead.

you will need to farm around 1750 JTs a week to keep up with max ranks using 195 mods.

I constantly swap the following mods depending on the mission:  Remote Detonation, Radar, Radar Jammer, Flak (majority of the game), Fragile (for CQC shotgun combat), Car Surfer, Blowtorch.

For a low level playing a few hours a week, that's impossible to get through normal missions since low level contacts give very few JTs as a reward.  It gets easier to earn JTs on the rank 195 and higher contacts, but by then you can just buy the mods off the market.

FC is an option but not everyone enjoys the chaos.

The contacts also give out vehicle unlocks, sprays, clothing, and can still hand out a free mod and unlock the ability to purchase additional mods.

The only thing that needs to change is the rank requirement so newer players can purchase them on the market board.

"Progression" by leveling contacts is not the only reason people play this game.  I've been maxed out for years and still play APB.  Most of us here have been maxed out for years and still play, why do people think "progression" is the only reason people play?

Let the newer players have access to rank 195 mods, they change how the game is played completely, there is no need to drive players away because they have to play an unfair game against us vets.

How you play the game is not what sets the requirements to whether a new player needs such items and everything you mention is blown out of proportion.

All these mods I do not use: Remote Detonation, Radar, Radar Jammer, Flak, Fragile, Blowtorch.

Car surfer, only my enf has it available and again I rarely use it.

I am not claiming progression is the only reason why people play the game, I am saying that there are systems in place that exist which are directly effected by making the suggested changes.

Furthermore the suggest changes are completely unnecessary when you factor in Joker tickets.

Many players re-roll using limited gear and play against max ranked players, the outcome is challenging but not impossible and certainly not a game breaker.

removing the r195 requirement is a lot simpler than revamping the joker ticket system imo

theres just no need for these few mods to be locked to a majority of players, especially when some of them alter core gameplay mechanics

Killing the game's current progression system (role unlocks, contacts, lvling up) vs issuing a few more joker tickets here and there?

This is why the Joker store exists in the first place (along with ARMAS try before you buy), it came about to help newer players stay ahead so it makes more sense to emphasise it's importance to newer players.

Since Battleye is coming to apb, I just wanna raise awareness to something. People who play PUBG know that Battleye alone is very far from a proper cheat detection mechanism. So, will Battleye be present with fairfight, or it's a case of either/or? I know for a fact that battleye alone is not sufficient and it will just be a matter of time before new  cheats are made, and that would suck! I'm recommending Punkbuster + Battleye + Fairfight(if possible) since it would be really hard to bypass three layers, 2 of which are client-sided injection detectors.

What are you guys' thoughts on this?

    PUBG cheating

    Quote

The full scale of cheating on the game is incredibly vast. Anti-cheating software company BattlEye said in February that it had banned more than a million cheaters in January alone – warning then that "things continue to escalate", suggesting that the numbers will be even higher now.

I think you need to look at it from another perspective. Cheating will not stop regardless of Battleye but consider what comes out of this. Battleye is like an antivirus program, with a detection database. Due to Battleye being used in another games their database is always growing and scan engine constantly updated to detect new cheats. The more Battleye is being used as an Anticheat solution, the more data they have to improve the database / scan engine. As a whole it is far better than FF alone and with big titles such as PUBG Battleye will only get better.

    Quote

BE is using innovative, sophisticated detection routines, such as entirely dynamic on-the-fly scanning being controlled and altered by the backend making it impossible for hackers to develop permanent bypasses for specific client files.

The key part here being that cheat developers need to constantly update in order to stay ahead. Pricing (for cheats) might go up or cheat developers will start working on private cheats with a high price tag. Anything that slows down their progress and deters players away from cheating is a good addition to APB. What I hope Little Orbit do is announce how many bans per month to at least provide some form of acknowledgement that they are trying to keep San Paro clean. (no names, just figures)

Removing the rank requirement for modifications entirely might be a bit too much, but lowering the requirements to R80-100 would certainly not be handing it on a silver platter. I don't think weapons need to be changed though, those can stay like that. It's also a good marketing strategy for people to buy on the Armas marketplace as it's an alternative to grinding which many prefer.

Car modifications and character modifications however don't need to have such a high rank requirement. Leaving aside that the FC's are pretty overwhelming for newer players,  That's 350 each week you can spend on for one modification which you have to refill as well for each week should you really like it, trying a different one out is also impossible, because you can't afford it unless you grind the FC's, which newer players shouldn't do as they should focus on leveling their ranking.

Rank 80 - 100 still takes a fair amount without premium, gives the players a chance to learn about the game before reaching said rank, while giving high-ranked players a chance to sell modifications that they don't use or have doubles of.

if anything this would boost the marketplace, since removing the r195 restriction would allow a large part of the population to purchase these mods off of the mp

There are only 4 weapon with a 195 requirement, Mobility Sling, Muzzle brake, Tagger, High mag scope.

All the others, weapons are R40 already.

All the cars are R40 except level III which are R85.

All character mods R40, except the ones mentioned in the joker store. (hard landings, car surfer...)

    R36PUQy.jpg

And a lot of this already overlaps with the Joker store. If anything needs to change, it's to hand out more Joker tickets. Back when it first started we used to get way more than 50/100/200.

Every opposed mission should hand out joker tickets, like 10-15. (easy for every player)

  11. The whole idea is pointless and breaks too many aspects of the game, marketplace, roles (pointman / rifleman) and contact progression.

Further to this, nearly all the mods are useable at rank 40. (-Muzzle brake, wide ammo box)

And new players have never had it so easy, with 250JT they can obtain most of the mods anyway with a little effort in FC.

    XMdp08z.jpg

    3AQBdf7.jpg

    QUnvvQd.jpg

If players want to try out slotted weapons, 1000JT or for the time it takes to perform the following,

    • 200 Assault rifle kills for 1 slot N-Tec unlock
    • 1500 Assault rifle kills for 2 slot N-Tec unlock

There is no point handing everything on a plate, the game is very user friendly provided players are not looking to be lazy.

Hey! did you solved your issue???

*** PATCH? is it king a joke, coz I play always directly to game executable and never use launcher as it is useless - no patches been planned at G1, no patches planned and done by Little Orbit so what are you talking about "patch" last week,

    cmon

ok, fine, show me "patch notes" if there was a patch...

I have feeling dudes all ya talking about Operating System - windows - up-dates, not at all about a game......

(had to turn and ask pre-mates if I missed something)

    - confirmed to PATCH had done by Little Orbit,

on top of that they said about NEXT patch and it is a first BATTLEYE add,

stop using rumours and disinformation a people around

He / She is referring to the motherboard and AMD's AGESA Patch.

  13. I'll post this in the event that you wish to try a few things, yes flashing a BIOS is always a risk but it rarely goes wrong.

The BIOS CAP file needs to be copied to a flash drive, FAT32 formatted.

You then enter the BIOS and choose the EZ Flash option.

My own take on this, you should try the BETA BIOS listed, this is also linked to a bug which you may have seen floating around, "Spectre & Meltdown".

Both related to the hardware security features associated with DEP / NX bit.

Once the BIOS is flashed, see if APB runs. If not change your BIOS to UEFI but please note the following points below.

    ==============

Everything I mention below may have a knock on effect and cause you futher issues.

When you change the Bios option to UEFI you will need to re-install Windows 10.

And it changes how the boot devices are detected, if only 1 drive you are likely to be OK.

    ==============

For a fully compliant Windows 10 install you need to set an your BIOS to UEFI mode.

In your BIOS options, Boot, you should have somewhere the ability to set the: OS Type [Windows UEFI Mode]

Is it set to: [Windows UEFI Mode]

Please note if you change this option you will need to reinstall Windows 10.

    ==============

Knock on effect of UEFI mode, your GFX card GTX770 if this was released at the time of Windows 8 it will likely work.

If not, when you set to UEFI mode in your BIOS and save&Exit, it may stop working / blank screen.

Should this happen, your only option is to reset your BIOS. (clear CMOS jumper / remove battery / short some pins, refer to the manual.)

    ==============

If you get this far and APB still does not work 😞 something is broken.

    The registry fix

    DXFix.reg

or if you want to create this yourself paste the following into a notepad text file.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\GamersFirst\APB]
    "directX ShipDate"="04.18.2011"

Save the file as, then choose all types.

    Name it "dxfix.reg"

Then double click on the file to add to your registry.

No more DX installing when you launch APB 😃

Download the DXFix zip file, extract and double click on it.

  15. Try CPUz and check both your board / CPU

    https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Reason I ask, depending on what you have there is likely an issue with compatibility under Windows 10.

An older board / BIOS may not comply to what the newer standards are in Windows 10, a lot of this relates to hardware based security measures, Windows 10 Secure boot / UEFI.

Knowing what motherboard you have may lead to finding a newer BIOS (if one exists) that may help.

  16. APB can cause temps to run higher, on older boards the VRM area (place on motherboard which supplies power to the CPU) can struggle which causes instability.

For testing purposes if you can place a big fan at the side of the pc case, with the side panel removed just to see what happens when playing.

Memory is a strange area, swap the memory sticks around to see what happens.

Why do you believe your RAM isn't faulty? <have you done tests? (I'm asking because details are important 🙂)

Do you know what kind of temperatures your PC runs at?

    https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

  17. Anudureju, I may have 992 posts to date and it is apparent that I am asking the right questions and know how to read.

Where do you see in the OP that 2GB is the amount of RAM in his/her PC?

Clearly states 2GB RAM not being used. <this alone implies over 2GB.

My questions are not "low" they are crucial for gain further knowledge, something which you have overlooked.

Please if you have issues with another user's comment either PM or keep it to yourself as such actions serve in the interest of no one.

  18. Hello,

Years ago when I first started playing APB, can't quite remember my PC specs but it was the same. (Was so long ago I can't remember what solved it, driver issue or game needed patching)

    What hardware are you using?

    • CPU
    • GFX card
    • RAM

  19. Hello,

The smoke performance related issues have been known for many years, the issue is due to the game engine and phyics processing which is all limited by design to a single thread (CPU based). It is also a direct result of the old engine and use of DX9 coding. This will hopefully improve slightly with the engine upgrade to UE3.5 but the true gains will be had in the UE4 engine.

GPU accelerated physics processing / particle effects needs to be added to the game 🙂
