  1. An upgrade to UE4 will come with MAYBE better sky box right off the bat, better bloom, better lighting environments, simpler/quicker integration of new content. It will not suddenly upgrade models and textures. APB has (i think) 3 LOD (levels of detail) for every model apart from the characters which I think has 1 which is what we see then invisible at distance and only transforms (position|rotation) is tracked. If you walk around you see then fading in and out the closer you get to buildings etc.

I remember the lead artist from RTW told me that every building in APB is unique (he told me this face to face at his wedding - I was the wedding photographer for Tahir Rashid 🙂 ) so if they are to upgrade the maps etc they have to adjust every single building and every texture maybe with 3 levels of detail. I really cant see that happening. I have been working on a game in Unity for around 4 years and in between times would go in to APB to look closely at walls and textures etc.. Its very very big. My main openworld game map is around 50% the size of Waterfront and took almost 2 years to build and it was continually tweaked right up till I stopped working on the game about 3 months ago! (i built all the models from scratch also and coded it in C# - UE is c++ for anyone who didnt already know that).

From what I can gather, LO are upgrading to UE4 so that they can implement new toys for us to play with and repair buggy code. New game modes will be quicker to implement with UE4. Also from what I can gather from Matts posts and Q & A, it will not be even nearly feasible with the current engine and will still be very much more time consuming with 3.5 but I could be wrong. I have the same amount of info as everyone else here 🙂

I think I might make a video of the current state of my game just for curiosities sake and post it in the off topic section.

Then why would valve go through the trouble of showing all the data that they have collected on you?

I am pretty sure it's in regards to what data is being stored and used, game data or personal info, the data is related to you in one way or another.

GDPR is in no shape or form easy to understand, so I could be wrong.

At the same time, Valve could just be covering their patootie in regards to this, so they're just showing all the info they have on you.

    It's hard to say.

i think this is correct tbh, they are covering their asses because GPDR is complicated and covers so many options and conditions that it might or might not be the case that they are compliant, so they are over complying and adding another layer of transarency to make sure they dont get a knock at the door.. I was going to thank the posts etc but I seem to have ran out of thanks for the day! Anyway, thanks 🙂

Only personally identifiable data is covered in GDPR. They will have done this to make them look more trustworthy and transparent. If I have details about you say the following:

    Gamers Name

    Country Of Original

    Shoe Size

This is not enough to identify you as a person.

If I on the other hand have:

    IP Adress

    First and Last Name

    Street Name

I can find out who you are and so this is covered under GDPR. As the data controller you must tell people how you are using their data if it is data that can identify a real person. Have a wee gander here (BTW I am a web designer with hundreds of clients and my own hosting services incorporated in to it so I am a data controller and processor at the same time. I have had to do this recently)

Take this post with a grain of salt. I don't know every single detail in regards to GDPR, so this is more a "that could be cool" kinda post.

Seeing as GDPR is the big thing right now and you've mentioned you're working on being GDPR compliant.

Will we be able to browse our match history and more?

I am guessing you store some kind of game/match related data on each person playing the game to make support easier.

Valve has enabled this for all their titles. (e.g. CSGO - https://steamcommunity.com/my/gcpd/730/?tab=matchhistorycompetitive)

GDPR Only relates to details that can identify an actual person eg real name address phone number. These score boards dont who any real details about who you are.

Well they have to make money, but it seems to me that if LO were purely motivated by monetary games, they wouldn't buy a dying, neglected property that had lost most of its playerbase.

    very true

I don't believe TechMech for a moment when he said he's never made money on APB. I think things became unprofitable and unsustainable when so many players left due to RG's mistakes, and so he was either going to shut it down, or sell it. Glad to see it got sold.

    me too.. im very happy.

  9. I remember the week before APB was relaunched I went to meet Neume at the hotel bar next door to RTW so that I can basically have a wee chat about what they were going to do to the game a report it back on my own APB forum (I missed him by 5 minutes.. the concierge told me he was in the RTW building but I wasnt allowed in!). Neume was our man at the front at the time and everyone thought the sun shon out his arse. Look what happened to him! We got the impression from G1 and Neume that they were dedicated to APB and our community but all they really gave a shit about was taking our damn money! They made a purchase with a cha ching in their sights.. I think LO have not made the same decision here.. Or I truly hope not. I really believe that Matt and his company/team are going to make a good difference to APB and are doing it for money yes, but also because they see that APB is a seriously great game and us, the community really want this to be the game that RTW dreamed about but never delivered.

  10. Hi Matt. I watched your Q&A the other day. You seem like a decent guy who really cares about APB. Glad to see. I have a question. You say your a developer. Are you also a gamer? If so will we see you in game? If so how often do you think youll be playing?

the cheating site r saying its over once BE gets patched in. its funny watching them cry about it

if battle eye works i can see a large influx of old and new players..

I was playing the other day.. first time Ive really played in maybe 2 years for more than 5 minutes and I really enjoyed playing again.. Was playing with a few gold who were calling me a noob and were telling me i was going to get kicked etc etc but you know what, with LO at the helm I know APB will be good so even though I was getting some stick from some dudes I dont know and I was playing like my rank was GREEN I really had some great fun!

    APB is back BABY!

  12. I have been disconnected 3 times today. While I am editing my guy - adding a decal or adjusting one, I get a timer saying i am being disconnected. I cant do anything while this is being timed down. Once the timer is done I am logged out and sent back to the login screen. It says I may be logged in to a district and this can take up to 15 minutes to clear (or something similar).

anyone else getting this? Or any suggestions?

  14. I dont get why the people who are the best at the game dont want to show that off? I remember back in the RTW days, when a seriously high ranked player came in to /d it was announced. When that was took away I just though we are all equally unequal now. I want to have people to look up to in the game so that I have something to aspire to. Although G1 was a cash cow so that was probably a move towards making the game more "Casual". I dont know..

I like that idea, but why? If they are dethreating it's because they want to get to the noobs. So prevent them from getting the noobs somehow.

the "stay at that level for ages" idea makes the most sense i think. If you get up to gold and your shit hot you should stay there for a while without being able to come down in threat. It dosnet make sense to be able to come down so quickly as well. Seems like something that would be pretty simple to fix too.

Matt also said that the process of threat change needs to take longer, presumeably both going up and going down in threat. I assume the hope is that this will make the process of intentional dethreating more trouble than it is worth, as well as making it less likely you threat up after a few lucky matches.

    We will see though.

yea it seams too easy to do! It should be made to take ages to do it. Would probably put not so much of a total end to it but make it something that people just couldnt be arsed doing any more.
