There's an extremely fine line for LO to walk continuing to rely on an already bypassed anticheat and having cheaters move from closet to blatant brazenly.  At this rate there won't even be a gaming population left for their engine upgrade. A totally hacked game is out of control.  If LO can't figure this out, all their hard work is going to be ruined.  They need to bring back FairFight and put a couple of GMs in-game at random times to temp kick on the fly.

So, because BattlEye is a "bypassed anticheat", LO should bring back FairFight, which was proven to be less than useful?

And thats key, freq updates that requires the makers of the cheats to constantly spend more time keeping them up to date which then they lose time to do anything else. Then they stop making them. Hacking is a constant battle of updates to get the 1up on the other party and eventually one side will cease, normally the side making said hacks. This would especially be for a game as dead as APB. The prob is that battle eye isnt being updated often enough nor are hackers being dealt with fast enough. If LO sped these up wed see alot less

There's an extremely fine line for LO to walk here between devoting effort to stopping the ongoing cheating issue and pushing forward with 3.5; once 3.5 lands, we should have some blessed quiet from the cheaters for a little bit while cheatmakers rush to make something that works for APB.

Besides, I'm fine with knowing as little as we do about how LO is handling anti-cheat, as it means the cheaters also have less information to go on.

If you really think that's true, I hope you are reporting them to support.

    And reporting the stream itself.

Not being a gun person myself, I wonder... How far out can you effectively hit targets with a gun like that?

It's easy enough to hit targets at 100yds without optics; Hickok45 does it frequently on his YouTube channel. Typically, large bore revolvers with optics mounted on them are used for handgun hunting, where the scope makes it much easier to acquire your target.

I like the concept idea and have wondered about this myself.

Also as constructive criticism I have to point out a few inaccuracies.

1 scopes for revolvers tend to not go past half way on the barrel due to balance issues.  (there are exceptions like a .50 caliber dirty harry style revolver)

2 the mounting part itself is normally around the cylinder or slightly to the front if it and normally the same size as the cylinder.

I offer the criticism  in hopes that you can pursue this path and improve designs whether it be APB or something else in design.

Where would we be without the artwork in games? Thank you.

It surely was by RTW. Too long past for most people though. Can't blame them.

At early stages that is. Very shortly. So technically you could say Matt is still right.

Having been playing since RTW, I can say that all we ever "knew" about it was that it was either "rolled into Financial" or was never finished, so what Matt stated fit the bill; whatever you're getting your information from about RTW's intentions for Midtown, though, I'd like to see it.

    EDIT: Keep downvoting me, bud

While I have a lot of respect for what enthusiasm and hard work Little Orbit has done, their results have been mixed and frankly I don't care for time limited events that are bugged on the first day.

I like a lot of other people don't want to hear "We are so close..."

Sorry but I have little patience for Little Orbit learning on the job after so many years or "Soon™", I don't want to hear that it's nearly done, I want to to see actual progress!

I've been waiting too, but I can bear to sit on my hands a little while longer. We've gotten more concrete progress and communication in the past 8 months than the past 8 years.

Didn't Midtown eventually morph into financial?

Although one of the Enforcer start screens does depict it - it would appear to be quite similar to the South East corner of the Financial district. It'd be interesting to see a whole map based on the idea of narrow back alleys and twisting roads (Although this sounds a lot like shotgun heaven now that I think about it)

From the big man upstairs himself:

    Quote

NOTE: I was not on the original RTW team, nor was I on the Reloaded team, so much of this is internal hearsay.

As I understand it, Midtown was a development area for the game's work in progress assets. Most of the buildings were used in Financial, although a couple unique designs remain.
Technically we did find it on a map sketched in between Financial and Waterfront, and it is referenced in the lore as a separate place.

The idea of Criminal and Enforcer Social Districts were too fragmenting to the player base, so those districts were scrapped.
The Criminal Social District was used to create Asylum.

The assets for the Enforcer district are still there, but for reasons I wont go into, they aren't very usable as in-game models.
We would be better off doing something from scratch using that district as inspiration.

    Thanks,
    Matt

This is all in line with what we'd heard previously; Midtown was never a "finished" district and was never meant for gameplay, but as a district in the lore it exists.

    Hi everyone,

It's the end of a crazy year for us, and many players have been asking about the state of APB.

In the December newsletter, we mentioned this update, but due to time constraints I didn't get to it until this weekend.

Here is a recap of 2018 and a little of what is planned for 2019:

In April, Little Orbit had never run an MMO or online multiplayer game.

This month, if I were self evaluating Little Orbit, I'd say we are now mediocre at operating the game.

I do feel like we've learned a hell of a lot, and we're getting better at it.

The correct choice for an anti-cheat is batteye. But you shouldn't write out fairfight because it was badly tuned when you received it. It has the highest chance of catching a cheater if they indeed have a bypass for your custom client and battleye. I'd recommend in getting in contact with the support team and have it made the way YOU want it. Not the way g1 wanted it.

Matt is saying FairFight isn't a good fit for APB. I highly doubt that LO didn't adjust FF at all since picking up APB, and at this point it's been 6-7 months since LO took over; seems like plenty of time to determine how good a fit FF is for APB.

Just a note, but I feel like this whole SPCT idea while useful (all games should have dedicated testers) is being handled wrong. Forum role alone is breaking apart the community, sort of "elevating" said members from the rest of the community when, in fact, they are exactly like everyone else.

I agree it is very important to announce now that a SPCT team is being created (it's a nonsense to keep it secret) but there is no need to specifically indicate the names. Especially since you talk about NDA, giving the names means we can now directly bother them to unofficially update us on upcoming changes.

BTW, what are the new registered players going to think? Whenever they will see a "SPCT" role posting on the forums with a comment, without any indication of their real role anybody sane will think of it as a moderator or a community rapresentative. Which is false and only abusable.

World of Warships has SuperTesters and Community Contributors, which have a special role on the WoWs forums, and are also under NDA. Nobody cares.

My guess is that any reaction you’re having right now would be 10x down the road.

This is really the crux of it; from closely following other major/minor game development/community interactions, I can say that whenever the devs are forthcoming about things that players might not necessarily like, the playerbase reaction is always more tempered than when things come out suddenly.

Uhmm. . . am I wrong in thinking the FFA R&D III was originally, and has only ever been accessible through power JMBs? Granted, they were originally not directly purchasable, but still.

Power JMB 9 gave FFA originally. It became the other box later on.

  13. I'd like to give people a little perspective here.

A World of Warships developer/staff member used to run an event only on NA called Corgi Captains.

This event took place over the course of 3 days for 24 hours each day, and had ~150 volunteers playing as Corgi Captains for the entirety of NA.

You would win some premium currency and an exclusive flag, but only if you landed the killing blow on a Corgi Captain.

150 people for the entirety of the NA server, which has a constant population of something like 12,000 players.

"But Knite," you might be saying, "the volunteers could get on at any point in a 72 hour period!"

As a player, I saw a Corgi Captain once, and managed to steal the kill from somebody. I participated as a Corgi Captain twice, and had so many people in chat ask "What's a Corgi captain?"

"What's your point?" you might be asking. Well, the absolute scarcity of the Corgi Captains never engendered the kind of rage I've seen with this event, and Corgi Captains were only around for 3 days each time. This event ran way longer than 3 days.

I'm not opposed to everyone that logged on during the event getting the skin, but neither do I think this kind of behavior from the community should be rewarded.

They "fixed" it and since the "fix"

You shouldn't be saying "fix" like it was a mistake to adjust the Yukon; the RoF outside MM was straight up bugged, it was never meant to be like that. I owned one prior to the fix and I still own it; I felt it was a stupid gun before (and it's still a stupid gun), but at least now it's not stupid because a bug makes it better than the competition.
