  1. No disrespect Kevkof and BXNNXD but I'm after solid answers from Matt himself.  6 months ago it was indicated bans "may" be permanent, and now it seems the notion of a permanent ban is non existent.

I want clarification on the ban policy. Will permanent bans be issued, and under what circumstances. 1st time temp, 2nd time temp, 3rd time perm. How long are the ban periods.

  2. @BXNNXD What takes precedence, the quote dated 6 months ago or the recent one? In any event this indicates there has been a change in policy or perhaps Matt needs to clarify his position regarding permanent banning.

  3. So you will not automatically ban cheaters permanently, and won't ever manually ban cheaters permanently either since you only mention two possibilities, extending or removing an exisiting ban.

Are there any circumstances in which you will permanently ban those caught cheating?

    7) How do we handle cheaters when we detect them?

Based on APB's history, I didn't feel we could permanently auto-ban cheaters based on any of the systems mentioned above.

We do temp ban for a window long enough that my staff can review the data and then decide whether to extend the ban or remove it.

  4. Do you have APB installed on your SSD / is it low on space?

When playing APB a lot of player data is cached to the below folder location (I have steam/apb on my C drive, your one may vary).

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\APB Reloaded\APBGame\AssetCache

It can become quite big if going from district to distrct, so if you run out of disk space APB will crash.

Also, might be worth checking this folder location, if the log files are consuming a lot of space delete them.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\APB Reloaded\APBGame\Logs

  5. Log file indicates you are running out of memory.

How much memory is your system using right now if you check Task Manager > Performance.

I'm thinking you might have a lot of background apps using up your RAM. Typically any laptop/prebuilt OEM system comes with a lot of bloatware.

  6. Don't be afraid or feel ashamed of doing a job that you might consider to be below your level. Only very few people get their ideal job straight away.

Young people fresh out of education getting a job these days is tough because the reality is employers want experience, and the supply pool of potential candidates is well over saturated. There are too many candidates fighting for too few places.

Try and build up your work experience, start low and work your way up.

If you are struggling to find a job in your chosen field, the worse thing you can do is to be unemployed for a long period, so consider something else just to fill in the gap. As an example if you can speak/read in more than one language consider teaching english/french as a temp job.

Under this system I can still manipulate my threat level by intentionally playing like a potato.

Under this system I will probably always be matched against the same players over and over.

Under this system  we are preventing lower skilled players from progressing because we are "ring fencing" them from facing challenging opposition.

Under this system, nothing will change.

The best thing you can do is to obliterate the threat system and have matchmaking performed on a who is available basis.

That means you will have a mix of players teamed up together, facing a variety of skilled opposition. This is a good thing and the biggest helping hand you could give to help players get better at the game (and for the development of the player base in the long term).

Fact we all learn from each other, by playing together, observing tactics used by the opposition, learning from better players etc. So when you separate the not so good players from the good players, all you are doing is helping the good players stay at the top and fostering one of the biggest issues this game has endured throughout its lackluster existence, elitism. Meanwhile the not so good players continue to be osmaw heroes, perc pigs and have it out nano-a-nano because they are not pushed/challenged enough to move up the skill ladder.

Take responsibility for developing the player base, stop baby sitting them. Match making is a cancer to the development all players good or bad because it keeps us within a comfort zone. Survival of the shittest...

In addition to the above and at some point in the future, think about having a more competitive element to APB such as clan v clan districts with leader boards but only until you have a system in place that fosters the development of good players and not the sorry-cheat-accusating-childish-elitist-spaghetti goop we have right now and will under this system you are proposing.

That's why Matt Scott doesn't believe in just banning anybody anytime something happens, nor does he believe in running a GM department based on biasedness and personal feelings. APB is an MMO first, TPS second. He has to retain the player base of this game over everything, or buying all of G1 will have been for nothing. Even with all the future updates and changes to the game, if every single player in the game right now got up and quit, LO would still fail and it'd be just like G1 in the long run. The biggest change Matt Scott and LO realize they need to make is retaining players. Obviously that starts with an anti-cheat that actually works. But with all the changes they're doing now and in the future, the #1 goal will always be, retaining the player base. AKA the biggest mistake G1 made.

LO is a business with profit at its core, don't be deluded into thinking anything else. For them sustained growth and enticing players to invest in their product is the priority. A key ingredient to sustained growth is the retention of existing players but don't be surprised if they make changes that lose a few old prunes in favor of attracting a wider audience.

of course not, but would you bring greather threat to the society and deny justice for 100 just to prevent injustive at one individual? The quotes raw speaking is not situational, and surely, cheaters are just chaters, and shoplifters are just shoplifters, but when we talk about real serious peopel we would let free. How much evil would we weight this single Life to be worth?

if you were that individual, you are telling me to lock you up with those 100 evil people and throw away the key.

  10. You are right, it doesn't matter. Just wanted to make sure you understood the point I made.

The interest of justice should always prevail. No innocent person should be serving time.

could ask you the same about the murderers that get free and if those people they murdered were your relatives.

In what context, if I was the innocent person who had a relative killed by one of the guilty people, or if I was just a family member of someone killed by one of the guilty people?

"Of course, there is always that group of people that were possibly involved in foul activities but as a Criminal Justice major, I have to tell you that there is one important saying. It is better to have a hundred guilty people go free, than to have one innocent unfairly locked up "

Taking the statement on face value, looking at the wider picture, no justice for victims, legal system in disrepute, risk to public etc. However, for that one innocent guy there is cause to ensure his/her right to freedom is protected, so it becomes a case of what is necessary in the interest of justice. To which note in the interests of justice it is better.....

Another way of looking at it, if you were that one guy would you sacrifice your freedom to ensure those 100 are locked up? I doubt it. What if that innocent person was your mum, dad, brother, sister.....what difference does it make if it is a total stranger?

  13. I was more interested in the real weekly maintenance;

Cleaned out poop from Little Orbit's cage

    Visual inspection of Little Orbit

Checked Little Orbit's wheel for signs of wear

Topped up food/water supply for Little Orbit

Here he is in action, they upgraded the wheel to an electrically conductive metal alloy which has resulted in far fewer DDOS lag spikes. You see every time there was a spike it was because Little Orbit was new to the scene, he wasn't sure on what baseline RPM to maintain for best server performance. He has learned now but for additional security if they detect a decrease in RPM they zap the little focker with an electrical charge. That conductive metal alloy wheel is pure genuis!

  16.

A good question to post there.

My view (based on nothingness) is it shouldn't be a problem unless the VPN causes communication issues with Battle Eye, eg packets timing out / dropping. Battle Eye may kick / ban you for that.
