I have to agree that the proposed solution seems obtuse, and LO may be falling into the same trap of G1 of not going for the most obvious nerf.

Because nerf's are bad, generally ruin guns and fundamentally affect the way the game has been played since it's creation. Balancing is one thing, nerfing is another.

Some people will always want to see cheaters everywhere because then they have a reason for why they suck.

You might want to consider the multi-million dollar online gaming cheat businesses... and how they could not exist if people didn't actually buy and use those cheats.

"Bannon helped persuade private equity firms, including his former employer Goldman Sachs, to invest tens of millions of dollars in the venture, which relied partly on labor from low-wage players in China to earn the video-game credits that IGE then sold to gamers around the world... Interviews with a half-dozen former employees and executives of IGE, and hundreds of internal company documents, reveal for the first time how the company worked to avoid detection by gaming operators — for example, using the identities of unwitting U.S. residents to create gaming accounts and connecting to proxy servers so its activities would be harder to trace to its Hong Kong office.

There are cheats being sold with the tag "BattlEye Bypass" this is true.

But at least on Jericho, I havent seen hardly any cheaters.

Its also worth mentioning that cheat sites do not offer refunds if you get banned lol.

And as far as V spamming goes, thats just some dumb stuff silvers do thinking it glitches the hitbox... it does not.

While this is basically true, late nights on Jericho I've seen some sketchy players.  And speaking of cheatadel... well, doesn't seem any different with BE so...

I was in OBT just after new threat system was put in APB so I don't have much personal opinion about it.

I only heard although that old threat system was pretty horrible and unjust, heavily win/loss match based (such tendency leads to abuses and unjust rank assigements) and overall... old threat system ranks look pretty disgusting to me (I love new threat system icons honestly... plus they represent standing).

You heard wrong.  Isn't it beyond obv that the new threat system is a horrible failure of injustice and imbalance? The original game system was not like this at all, and all ranks, all threats were able to op together but the weight of player distribution was based on threat and rank, so a high gold (pro player) would get 2 mid silvers and 3 bronzes for op.

  5. Imagine a district where everything is broken down, rusted cars pile up around intersections... and the pedestrians of San Paro at long last obtain a bittersweet undead revenge... and hordes of them are able to pull you out of your car... where your ammo runs out but the pedestrians keep coming... where there are seek and find, repair, deliver supplies missions just like we have now... but with teams that have to cooperate to survive the zombie hordes.

Not that the game should change or anything, but that alternative districts, which maybe are open on weekends or something, just might be a blast!~

We could even have changing alternative districts with different scenarios. An alien takeover for example, or vampires that come out at nightfall.

LO now has the freedom and creative license to do things we always dreamed if we had access to private servers and first class modding.  Come on now, our same game with some really creative change-up to prevent it from ever being stale... at least sometimes like special events.

  6. Well that opens the next big project for LO to work on, and that might take a bit more time, which is better balancing the matchmaking... and hopefully even hiding threat and just letting "skillz" speak for the quality of player. Another good choice would be restoration of the original RTW rank/threat/matchmaking system which though not without flaw far exceeded the horribad imbalance of where the game is now. The insignia were so much cooler too.

Sorry for a bit OT, but when I read the title I thought "Which hopes?". Personally, I couldn't care less which or how many anti-cheat programs are running. Majority of people will continue with their hackusations in the district chat as soon as they get killed and the ego's scratched. As if the implementation of BattlEye would significantly reduce the number of false reports. That annoys me more than actually facing a hacker.

What is a hackusation really? It's not evidence and bans don't happen because of this. It's just part of online gaming when players don't want to admit they sucked.  G1 even removed the "report" button.  Yet still the culture among hackusators, is to say "reported."  Do you really think all of those people who say this have actually bothered? The last thing in the world I would worry about are hackusations.  How many people got banned because of hackusations? LO is hiring a smart crew of in-game GM's to have eyes and ears to the ground. If someone is playing sketchy, they'll deal with it and won't need any hackusator's sketchy "evidence."

Hi Moneychixx... I remember you.  I for one will be glad for you to get another chance... and to get an LO smackdown when you cheat.  Personally I'm all for temp bans and tightening the anticheat so.. I'd rather see ur butt get kicked during the mission so I can hurrah than suffer and wait almost a year for a useless permaban so you can cheat on a million alt accounts.  yes, new chances for all and swift punishment for detected cheats, but temp kicks only... that would be fairest and most satisfying for the playerbase in my opinion. I'd sure enjoy having you in game to play than not... and watching the parameters of the game force you to play fair.

"While killing the fun and closest?

Comments like these which i am seeing more on and more on this forum really shows who the cheaters are in this game and it shows how many people who play video games don't have a good conscience about anything. Your basically supporting and suggesting that people do wrong . Do you guys even hear yourself?

And the staff wants to give players GM titles lmfao.

I'm sure they will be selective about who those players are... and they won't have any GM powers, just the insight from longstanding experience in the game and the clout to report and initiate LO investigation of suspected problem players as well as keep LO updated about issues with the game... like dethreating. Give 'em a chance, it's a whole lot wiser to use experienced players than the fools who never played the game and were utterly clueless (and useless) who G1 relied on.

Thanks for the colouring text, it really helped me reading.

I am not sure about that claim of false cheating. I saw a name today that totally deserved it (i really hope that guy was just trolling and used a nick alike).

And about threat i am not old enough in the game to experience that, but i am allways in favour of keeping the game as original as possible. If you say that not seeing threats was so good, then it should stay that way.

Any older player can confirm this?

Q: The anti-cheat system. Will you be making any changes?
A: This was the number one question. I think the community is super divided, especially the second part of the question. Will we be changing cheat detection? Absolutely. We’ve been working with Battleye, and we think that they are the market leader in client-side anti-cheat. We’re already three quarters of the way into the integration. The reason why we set this date was that we could get something concrete in place before announcing it, and also to allow the new support system to gain traction. But we think that this is the most important thing that we could implement to immensely help the game. We also mentioned that we’re keeping FairFight, but without doing auto-bans. The system has not been tuned for a year, and wasn’t being updated while the company was struggling. In my opinion with FairFight and Battleye, which will come in the next patch we put out, will be the ideal solution....
Q: Will there be unbans? Will it be a full reversal or partial reversal?
A: This is such a divisive issue. These last two weeks have been extremely busy for Little Orbit, especially with GDPR. What I did was sit on the customer support calls and worked through issues. We had FairFight auto-bans and I sat on the line with customers and logs, and we can clearly determine that there were improper bans. Those bans shouldn’t have been in place. It’s really hard for me to leave those bans in place. But I do want to say that this could raise issues of “oh these cheaters are bad” but specifically the bulk of the cheating bans are going to be reversed; the community is going to get a second chance....
    Q: Will bans be broadcasted?
A: No. It’s a super toxic practice. I view banning as a failure; it’s not something to be proud of or to enjoy. We lost a player and it’s our fault when it happens. We have done something in the meantime; even if you’re banned in game, we’re not going to ban you on the forums. We’re going to be doing some tweaks and utilize temporary bans. My commitment to the community is that we are going to clean up the cheating problem in a fair and good manner.

Today, I logged onto APB to find a new update that affects rewards and threat. this update, in my oppinion anyway, is absoultely terrible because now I get 98$ per game for 10 kills because I like to play in fight club (and at this point i find normal action districts REALLY boring) any my threatwas reverted to T because of a glitch. even when my Threat comes back to bronze where it was,(aperently should take about 10 games or so) because all the fight club districts are full of higher level players (which i like because i like a challenge) I get less money because i like a challenge. i find that rather idiotic..

Now to the actual sugestion, i think that it would be more effective if a person plays a game against higher threat players, that player who had a lower threat should INCREASE in rewards rather than DECREASE, causeing people to be more ambitious, and lower threat players, who are actualy as good if not better than the people they're matched up against can get better faster to match their skill level rather then slower to make playing this game unbearable... Or, as an alternative, make fight club districts not affected by threat... thank you for reading, I hope my idea is taken into consideration.
As ANOTHER alternative, why not just completely get rid of the update because it has not done anything that was actualy helping...

    So Far

Back in March we listed our major goals for 2013. So far this year, we've brought in:

    • The updated score system
    • The new front end
    • Elective spawning system
    • Another test of Asylum
    • Threat segregation
    • The smart district spin-up

    • Threat segregation will be changed; players will no longer be able to go down into districts below their current threat level. We found that too many people were going into districts below their recommended threat level and making life miserable for those players. Design on this is subject to change, but it's something we're looking into and intend to move forward.

    https://apbreloaded.gamersfirst.com/2013/07/

And here's the goals for 2013:
    - Threat segregation
(Was initially only applied to golds, and what caused the massive amount of dethreaters)
    http://apbdb.com/track/384494/
    _____________________________________________________

So, they introduced threat Segregation in 2012 which in their own words a year later: "We found that too many people were going into districts below their recommended threat level and making life miserable for those players."  And for whatever reason were never able to reroll that destructive patch which caused so much forum complaining, so many unhappy players, the literal death of the new player community, horrific bad press... but instead were forced to make change after change breaking the cohesion of the game and community further and further, year after year. CLEARLY they destroyed the original code and could not fix how they wrecked the game.

And i thought that it all started with cheaters rekting gold servers; actual golds went to silver interrupting their development; silvers would go bronze to repeat; everyone dethreating; balances issues in the matchmaking; losing more people every time; rebalancing more and so on... but if you say because cheaters were unfairly banned it must be true.

FFbanned over 16,900 accounts.  (Let it sink in.) Surely a number of those were duplicates but... at the time LO took over, about 40 players were left actively playing.  Mike Scott of LO said the majority of the FFbans plus the G1 internal system anticheat bans were UNFAIR AND INACCURATE... obviously a system that emptied out more players than left playing is an EPIC FAIL.

*That said, I was against the original fubared and idiotic Threat Segregation patch when it rolled out.  I played this game when it was actually fun and threat segregation didn't even exist.  No one wanted it.  No one in the community asked for it.  And when it rolled out the vast majority complained, if you ever want to look up the old threads.  But G1 in it's idiocy... or because they actually wrote over the old code and did not preserve an original... were unable to restore what they had fundamentally changed... and the game became severely imbalanced and abusive to "actual" lower threat and often lower ranked players EVER SINCE... WHY?  Because the matchmaking system was altered to more quickly reward actual silver players who played stacked matches into becoming fake golds.  Early in the game a gold player was rare and recognized for his actual SKILL LEVEL.  Many of these true golds took a lot of time to mentor lower skilled and new players and help them out. A lot of them became part of the San Paro mentoring program.

What G1 created by tampering with the original RTW system was an easily exploited system which allowed rampant abuses.  It was obvious where the weaker players were congregated, and instead of a PVP game... it became a PK game of steamroll the op so they don't even have any chance.  Like, who wants to be killed 42 times in a match?  No one, so actual "new trainees" fled the game, and cheater reroll rage hacker trainees took their place... sometimes TKing the hell-o out of their own team, because they were alts and clan-mates of the op who wanted to play WTFpawn and Steamroll lower skill players out of existence. This was a corruption of the original game that went unchecked for YEARS and was entirely G1's own doing.

Even now if LO were to revert the game back to it's original state and simply start over, learning from the mistakes of G1 and re-implementing the successes such as the new contacts and some of the new mods and guns... and with a bit of advertising might actually recapture the time when APB had two million active accounts playing.
