Epic Games explained why Metro Exodus abruptly left Steam

Recommended Posts

The decision on such a late transition took the publishers of the game

Director of Eris Games Store Steve Ellison told Game Developers Conference 2019 about the details of the transition of Metro Exodus from Steam to Epic Games service. Allison noted that in such a late and unexpected transfer to blame the publishers of the game.

"We have been negotiating [with Deep Silver and Koch Media] for several months and they have made some decisions. We weren't trying to frame them. It is a question of the timing of the decision and the fact that it was more important for them. We were aware of potential communication problems, but decided to go through it all together. It seems to me that the reverse reaction was much worse than we expected," said Allison.

Also, the head of Epic Games Store said that the company will continue to enter into exclusive transactions, "until 12% of the service fee will not become the standard of the industry." However, Ellison reassured the players that Tencent suspected of meddling in the politics of the company. Recall that the Chinese IT-giant owns 40% of Epic Games.

"They don't talk to us about what we do. They don't tell us what to do. They don't make decisions for us. They're not in our building. Everything is done only by our team, and the final decision is made by Tim Sweeney," — said the head of Epic Games Store.

It is noteworthy that according to surveys conducted by the company from August 2018 to January 2019, 40% of Epic Games Store users do not use Steam. In total, 85 million players use Epic Games service.

Earlier, the company said it would not produce in its store "shitty games".

They're trying to make steam look bad, thats all. The thing is, steam has been king for 15 years for a reason.

We all know that if it wasn't for fortnite these guys wouldn't have done shit. Imagine raising billions of dollars through a game, but not through a quality game, not through a captivating story, but through SKINS xd
