  1. Just going to state my 2 cents that I'm a "butter" or "gold plated silver" tier player.

That is, I would wipe the floor when I was silver, but as soon as I got to gold and forced into the silver server, there were only tryhard golds there and I would lose every single mission.

I'm willing to admit that I'm not as good at the game as them, but I also don't believe it's very fun to constantly be put up against too easy or too difficult players.

Ironically, the only people who provided a fair match were de-threaters and guess what? I de-threated too. It was the only way to reliably have fun with the game. Yeah I had a couple easy games against new players but I went easy on them to let them have fun. Atleast I would also get silver level de-threaters around my skill level about half the time, but in the silver server it was only those platinum level players who wouldn't miss a single shot and then go as far as shit-talking as if they weren't a fat sweaty nerd slapping their keyboard.

Point is. Something has to change. If this doesn't work then LO will try something else, but atleast they're trying something.

  2. I've had a pretty similar experience with this in the past with another project I was helping with.

Bambola covers it pretty well, but there's another situation where the updates discussed are things that cannot be understood, or appreciated by the community, such as things that can't immediately be seen or felt ingame.

One example I remember from a Mabinogi pserver I worked on, we had a fix to an issue that caused server-wide lag when summoning pets due to a recursive function. However, you could still get personal lag when summoning pets as a result of the login server having to communicate with you. People insisted that pet lag wasn't fixed.

As for an example posted above: "We found a new way to render a sphere". This isn't something worth sharing. I know it's just a random thing the person said but it's an example of one of many things they could be doing that just isn't worth mentioning due to several reasons.

To build upon one of the things Bambola said in regards to slow updates, people may also not understand how difficult a task might be. In Fallen Earth there's an issue with PVP area NPCs not spawning for several days. From my viewpoint it's as simple as just spawning the NPCs, but if it was that simple, then it would be done by now. We don't know how messy or complicated the code is, how complicated the models are (there was a mention of hair in APB being absurdly complicated) and how poor of a state G1 left it before it was transferred over.

Finally I just want to point out that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Little Orbit has paid a hefty sum of money to gain the ability to work on these IPs. They are putting time and effort into it that we cannot comprehend. Fallen Earth was re-launched for free with no possible way of purchasing anything. They are clearly working towards converting these games into better versions of their former selves, and APB is already better than it was when G1 hosted it. They are free. You are not required to purchase anything. You are not a customer. You are not waiting for your product.

If you give positive feedback and encourage them to do their best, it will be done faster and with better quality. If you harass and berate them, I wouldn't even be surprised if they sold it to the next company who then runs it into the ground.

  3. From my experience in Rimworld, CPU can be a result of too many things processing too many commands at once. I suppose corpses would be more of a RAM issue, but it would certainly alleviate SOME stress if the NPCs weren't constantly being commanded to find every enemy within a certain radius and kill them.

I suppose you're right though. While the servers may not be as powerful, the 64 bit recompile should compensate quite well for it.

The game always had this since day one, plus a much higher population back then as well.  So I don't think a bunch of NPC corpses in the game world causes these 15+ second lag spikes.

Like one already said above, it's part of the charm of this game.

It will if the new server isn't powerful enough to handle it. I guarantee this server isn't as powerful as the previous one.

  5. I consider mail a mandatory feature of the game.

I haven't been to S2 since well, the last version. But doesn't it take something like an hour to get there from a starter town? Maybe 30 minutes, but well if you have a friend there that wants to give you a freebie, you're probably going to end up having to run there with an old nag.

I guess they could fast travel to one of two spots somewhat close to the beginner areas but, well, mail.

  6. I don't know about these exploits but I've heard things and it may be prudent to look into them.

Also, there are many town NPCs (Midway has a lot of them) that will kill like 30 things at a time and leave the corpses there for several minutes, they can also cause instability.

Edit: By the way, thanks a ton for bringing FE back!

  7. There are 3 sides to this.

First side, people who love FE will come back and play it every day. Same people who were around since last time.

The more interesting ones are the next two groups
-People who got to max/near max and decided the game had nothing left for them. These people will play for a week, then leave. They won't support the game.

-New players who will see that everybody is already maxed out and feel discouraged they couldn't be part of an MMO launch but instead get to watch as everybody flexes their sick gear.

The only good thing is that higher tier players will frequently help newbies, so that can encourage them for a little bit, but gaining things too quickly can make the experience stale too.

I personally believe the best course of action is to wipe the progress. Those people who would be upset about losing progress are either 1: going to play anyways or 2: people who would have left in a week due to boredom anyways. At the very least though, cash shop items that were purchased previously should be re-applied to previously established accounts. That will alleviate a lot of the anger that established players will feel.

I signed in just to say thank you for the detailed update!  I have not posted, and have been watching from the sidelines for a while and looking forward to playing Fallen Earth again when it's updated and ready to rock! 🙂 Also my gamer group has been wanting to try it out, so that's another 10+ people.

You're lucky they're updating it. When I tried to get my friends into it, they didn't get past the starter area. It's very clunky, but has a lot of soul behind it. It's definitely the sort of game that had to be pushed out before it was ready, or was made by a loving creator who wasn't skilled enough to polish it to its maximum, and due to the lack of interest, didn't have the funding to get the polish it deserved; but now, it's looking like it will!

I'm very damn excited to see how it turns out.

  9. I ain't touchin this or Fallen Earth until the major updates are complete. I'm hoping it can bring enough people back to the game that these issues won't be so bad.

Besides that point, they're training and hiring a whole slew of GMs, so it's safe to say they're short staffed on that end, and they intend to fix these issues for the future.

    Just have faith and patience.

  10. There are people who have de-threated to bronze and even green. I just want to be in the bronze server with middle-higher tier silvers where I belong; not in silver server getting constantly stomped by the same 4 people on VOIP coordinating their builds. Before you even ask; none of my friends want to play this game.

As for the bronzes who are stomped because they're new; everybody gets stomped when they're new to a game. You have no experience or gear and that's something the devs should be looking into, and I think the easier rental of legendary weapons should make it a lot easier for more dedicated newbies to have more fun and have a step up against the competition.

I've lost to new bronzes with better aim. Just because I have a lot of hours in a game doesn't mean I'm good or anything.

When I mentioned de-threating, I meant just until the point I hit silver and then I stop, and I always feel bad to do it on a mission with other people. I usually wait for people to abandon, which happens a lot, and plus, you can only suicide a few times before you get kicked, so you always run the risk of an accidental suicide during the rest of the mission and losing your dethreat progress anyways.

I really think for things to change, there needs to be a fundamental re-tooling of how the game works. It's just far too easy for experienced players to coordinate and use cheesy areas/tactics, knowing full well the exact spawn points and mission points for everything. I just don't care enough to be that good at the game. I just want to have a bit of fun.

Besides all that, I had to get to 195 to put mobile radar tower into my vehicle and complete my remote detonator build (brick, explo 3, tower, ram 3) so I'm pretty pissed. It's not difficult to remember a vehicle. I've been victim to it too, I just remember the vehicle and it doesn't happen again. Now I have to re-tool my build. Having a bit of fun was one of the few ways I was able to play a little harder and now I just have to shooty shooty meta car spawner crap again.

Players have been banned for intentionally dethreating, so you might want to keep that to yourself.

This was a good while ago. I haven't played in roughly 3-5 years.

If they don't want people to do this, then they should remove the penalty from suicide. Problem solved. You'll still lose threat from being a dingus. Won't stop me from just running towards the enemy and dying.

  12. I'd like to believe the threat system is a bit more varied than the 3 visual threats but it just doesn't seem like it when I barely touch gold and I'm fighting people who whip my butt repeatedly back into silver, upon which time I go back to bronze server. I still think it's just representative of the low player base and I'm hoping the new devs can breathe new life and interest into the game where this sort of stuff doesn't happen. Playing on the silver server isn't fun. I don't need to win every match but I'd definitely like to win more than every 10th match.

Another thing I forgot to mention earlier is that remote detonator and brick is one of the few ways I could get rid of a strong enough blockade, but now I have to switch to my EOL Deep Impact and wait like 40 seconds to get enough nades to make it worth the swap. It's also one of the few ways I had fun in the game honestly. I just hope there's enough changes to the way the game is played so that there's more than just the 2 current effective strategies.

  13. When it comes to dethreating, I dethreat because when I go to silver district, all I fight is gold players with 2000+ hours in the game whom I can't even shoot once.

The game has always had an issue with low population and that's why dethreating is a thing. I don't really like stomping bronzes either, but at least you get more games with equal skill-tier silvers.

3 threats is not enough, in my opinion. I think 5-8 would be more applicable. (green doesn't count)
