If we really want to bring APB back to its true essence

Recommended Posts

If we really want to bring APB back to its true essence we'd make ever action in the game more PVP focused. Outside of missions there isn't much in the way of combat.

I've played both enforcer and crim and I think these changes should be made:

Allow crims to commit crimes en masse outside of missions. Ram raids are perfect, but add in game-prompts for the opportunity to break the law.

Mugging and car theft? Give more of a monetary reward but make these low-risk low reward.

Arson, burglary, atm bugging etc? Add points around the map players can do this outside of missions to earn some extra cash. High risk, high reward.

If a civillian witnesses you committing a crime you should fill up a meter outside of notoriety. If that meter fills up too much you start gaining heat and put a situation where you have to either evade cops or fight them off for a period of time.  Say like 3 minutes and you have to stay hidden or kill a certain amount of enforcers in order to go off the radar again. If you lose this you lose all your money.

Crims should be playing with the intent to draw attention to themselves or stay under the radar. If you don't want to get caught, don't commit risky crimes but then you'll earn less money than if you do the dangerous stuff.  This especially with your friends. We should be encouraging strangers to play and work together outside of missions.

Enforcers should be able to witness criminals but not to the point where it instantly starts a mission.  Combine this with the meter system where if a criminal is witnessed multiple times they receive warnings up until a severe police response.

Allow pedestrian NPCs to make police calls to give the enforcers something to do. Someone's stolen a car? Give the map a waypoint and when the enforcer arrives, let them follow a trail of clues to the offender or even to just fix stuff around the city. Someone's broken into somewhere? You repair it with a blowtorch. A car's broken down, signs have been vandalised, clean up graffiti. Even if it's not to leading to an actual player interaction just let them do some quick activities to earn cash.

Give the crims a LTL equivalent. The exact same LTL weapons, reskinned and zipties to kidnap enforcers similar to the stabba and arrest function.

Make the spawn timer depend on how close you died to the objective. You die further away? Quick respawn. You die closer? Slower respawn. It should be a barrage of assault, not sit and make a cup of tea and pray you spawn somewhere viable for gameplay to continue.

And lastly give the weapons better damage output. Higher level players are absolute sponges with Clotting Agent and Happy Landing. Make it so wounded players have to use consumables or even wait longer for their health to comeback. It's combat and people need to die. We need to figure out a balance between wall peeking and not. I believe some weapons should not have the ability to wall peek. Especially heavier, more damaging weapons. I think that should be reserved mostly for pistols and CQC weapons. Otherwise, you crouch and peek and risk dying.

What are your thoughts on this? I used to play years ago and came back recently but it seems that little has changed.
