"How much standing to max"

I got bored while eating breakfast and couldn't find the information out there, so I'm just tryna save someone else the 15 minutes of middle school math. 

 

I was thinking about trying to push my enforcer to max during quarantine, since my crims been cozily there for years and my enfs been over 200 just as long. So I've been playing more. And the rankings been painfully slow, being somehow locked in gold no matter how bad I do against current golds.. (lol) so I figured, the numbers are available, why not just see how many missions it'll take to get max? And I now understand that I'm not suicidal enough to get a second to max ever.

 

I used my current rank with the mule to check that the APB database numbers were still gud, and they seem to be. 

 

Tier 0 contacts : 30,000 standing total. Assuming 2k standing on average per game, (about a premium-less win, I think?) Thats 15 games. Ez.

Tier 1 contacts : 234,000 standing total. Still assuming 2k, thats 117 games? Considering its split between 4, pretty reasonable. 

Tier 2 contacts : 486,000 standing total. 243. I think thats kind of rough, especially since those contacts don't give much good, but whatever. Youll be rank 120 when youre done with this.

Tier 3 contacts : 721,000 standing total. 360 matches. I mean hey, it's going up steady at least. This is the main curb to getting to 195, even if it only brings you to 160. Still not many good things given for the time.

 

To get this far, to the bosses of each faction, we've played about 635 matches. If each one was about ten minutes, that's 105 hours of apb to get to the bosses. Not the worst, honestly! A good number of casuals would never be willing, but I'm an RPG kinda guy, so I pretty ok with it.

 

Tier 4 contacts : 577,500 standing total. 289 matches. Faster than tier 3, but it's only 2 contacts.

 

To get this far, you've earned 2,049,300 standing. And you've played something like 1024 matches. (about 170 hours of missions) That's an insane distance to go for this game. In my teenage years, I'd clock about 300 hours on any game I actually liked, so somewhere I think it's fair, but no casual should even bother. Here's the part that's actually what I started doing this for:

 

Post 195 contacts are all 716,300 standing each. Even Gumball/Aletta with their 20 ranks. So after 195, to hit max rank, you need 2,148,900 more standing. 1074 more missions. Over double the time you've already sunk to get that far.

 

So if you're like me, thinking it'd be fun to hop on that game you used to take way to seriously and finally getting your boy to max...Good luck not killing yourself.

Does anyone care? Prolly not. I just think its interesting information, especially when thinking about how much of a game changing advantage mobility sling is to ntec users, and the "easier" access to the 3 slot ntec. It's really the only thing I care about ranks for, lol. On one hand, the unignorable advantages seem more earned. On the other, I would REALLY like to be able to play this game with my casual silver friends. And currently, I have no argument when they say this game is something you had to start playing years ago. (No, I'm not telling them to farm JT in fight club, they hate fighting golds enough when its only 3 or 4.) Car surfer is something new silvers would also greatly enjoy, and regularly ask for. Shame I have to tell 'em they'll prolly never get it if they don't love the game without it.

 

As someone who's already hit max rank before, (and jokes aside, might still do it again) I see no downside to simply... cutting most of these numbers in half? Yeah, max ranks wont be flexing as hard, but maybe I could tell my friends you unlock car surfer 150ish hours in instead of 300ish hours in. That'd be nice. I get that there'd be less of a grind, meaning less to do in a dying game, but when 90% of the cool things that new players want are locked into the games last 5 contacts..eh.

 

I started this off tryna figure out how much I'd have to grind to feel "done" and now I just feel bad for the friends I've told to try this game with me this week. Guess how many stuck around.

 

Disclaimer: If it turns out my numbers are way off, or you dont think 2k per match is a fair basis, sorry! Im just a dude.

This assuming you win every single match you play?

I agree that car surfer should be accessible for lower ranks because its been always a silly and funny mod that every new player wants to try and makes them feel locked behind a rank wall when facing every other veterans.


About cutting in half these I'd rather double the premium standing buff instead, that way it would add more value to it while keeping freebies in the grinding.

 

Because premium right now only gives some significant advantage for ingame money as if ingame money were significant at all you know. If leveling up new characters could be boosted a bit more instead it would remove the grind feeling it gives at high ranks right now besides premium or not.

I believe in reality a win without premium can fall anywhere between 1600-2400 based on match length, but we've all had premium lately. A loss with premium can hit 2k easily enough.  It's pretty rough numbers, but the high end where you're winning every game completely crushing the opp with premium, getting 3k standing per mission, is still 683 missions to get to 195, 716 more to get 255. So 140ish hours in missions, if you're already high tier gold with a premade, is possible.

 

But Im still assuming a game is about ten minutes, which a mission rewarding 3k standing probably was not.. maybe 210 hours for a premade gold team to boost someone is more realistic. Still not letting down time between games be a factor.

Ranking up really takes a while and is generally a huge grind. Getting to R195 took me alot of time and nerves. With R195, alot of useful and essential mods are being unlocked that should not be locked behind progression walls in the first place.

 

Ranking up should be either accelerated or reworked.

i think it’s pretty well known that 0-255 is about 300 to 500 hours 

 

i don’t know if i would shorten the actual progression time, but where and when items that affect gameplay are unlocked definitely needs a thorough revamp

ye this.

if there were any important items that were unlocked super late - yes, they should be swapped with others.

 

are there though? no there are not - besides 195 mods. removing the rank requirement/lowering it to e.g. 40 is probably a no-brainer at this point. but moving them forward a lot might be a weird change - but honestly i wouldn't mind too much - but otherwise there are still the social auctions.

 

the idea of having to work/being able to work towards specific things has always been great to me. when i started apb i wanted an osmaw so bad - and i had something to work for. i really don't support the "everyone gets everything with low effort"-attitude. it's not even gatekeeping or anything, it's just that most things in the higher ranks are really not required and simply QoL things (such as cars with 3+ slots) - and even then, you can focus on specific targets via pledging.

since you also get rewards from contacts very regularly and not only upon maxing, i do think the system is actually not bad at all.

the highest rank requirement should be r85 imo 

 

unlocking absolutely everything within a dozen hours of playtime is as bad for the game as keeping stuff locked for 500 hours 

 

my personal suggestion is to move as many unlocks behind role progression (maybe even create some new roles) as possible, that’s a better mix between a time gate and a skill gate imo

People forget that to get max level in APB is about the same amount as getting Prestige 10 in the older CoD games.

 

Seems about the right amount to me. Though some things could be unlocked earlier and some things later.

Honestly, I think the standing bonus from Premium should become available to all players and instead of extra standing Premium players get the minimum threshhold from Jokertickets upped from something like 3 to 6.

 

I don't think the progression of APB is in a healthy state for players that don't want to spend 10$ a month just so they can progress their character at a reasonable speed. It took me 300~ hours of playing missions to max a character and that is with premium while also winning the vast majority of my missions.

it takes a few hundred hours to max out a contact... and after you're done hitting 255, you make a new char and do it again. unless its your first 255, then you probably sit on it for a while, realize how pointless it is to play on a character that is maxed out, especially since the game lacks any significant money sinks or time sinks beyond 255, would've been nice to slap a APB$ pricetag on the joker store weapons along with JT, but nobody seems to like this idea. 

 

I understand for new players, this grind might seem too difficult or too time consuming, but since most people who play APB nowadays are players who've been playing for 5 years or more, they've already done this grind, and some have done it several times. It's not about "we had to do it, they should too," but it's about the lack of any other core progression content in the game, being able to level a character to 255 in half the time would just make ranking and maxing feel underwhelming.

I would honestly shorten the actual progression time for the Specialist tier at the very least.  Getting to the 15 level Boss contacts and maxing them out is actually fine, but good lord are the specialists a huge grind for a single level.  Not only is it a long patootie grind, but you only get 1 item per level, it's straight trash.

Only issue with this is that it reduces the reason to level up contacts.  You have to make a metric ton more content just to fill in those empty spaces.  Weapon mods are the only thing that could be moved to roles along with weapon themed accessories(Skins, clothing, etc.).

 

Though weapon roles need a serious revamp.  Some of the better looking guns (JG Tac, OCA Stock, N-TEC 5 Stock,) are locked behind an additional level.  You unlock 3 slot guns at Level 15 but the "cooler" guns require an extra 10,000 kills to get which is dumb.   Outside of Sniper, the total 20,000 kills needed for max level is fine but the rewards need to be condensed down into lower levels, likely throwing in more guns, skins, or clothing to unlock in the higher levels or something.

also with premium i dont see a great increase in rank progression, with an average of 2w/4m.

premium should boost at least 4x exp .

Usually it's somewhere around 50%, that means to get the same standing as premium you need to do 3 matches, instead of 2.

Long-term it's saves up a lot of time so don't talk bullshoot. I boosted myself with premium when I was rising standing back in 2016. Saved tons of hours which I would spent on additional grind.

also 1% in a looong term is a save of time.
the problem is the time.
i dont think player loves invest months/year for max a character, or see just 1-2 rank more (high contact) after 3h of daily game play..

Prem is the worthest thing investing into. Stop.

 

It could be really worth but g1 broke certain features that made it more desireable.

You really need to stop this trend "gib fri stuf pls or i dun pley". At much players that spend real cash should be able to sell for apb$ (this really works in f2p games but matt didnt care in this fact i gave him) but NOT FOR FREE.

Absolutely no one is saying "give me this for free" I've got a shit ton of premium left myself but I simply realize the fact that the current end game progression is absolutely overtuned for players without premium and that its unhealthy for a free to play game to ask players to invest 500+ hours into maxing a character if they refuse to pay for premium.

I played for free many years and i didnt have a single problem, even enjoyed the game. You are pulling all of this from your behind.
