Ideas for changing/expanding social district

Recommended Posts

Had a couple ideas I've been sitting on so I figured I'd start a general ideas thread. What are changes you'd like to see? Additions? Blah blah etc?

First off social needs to be expanded and I think a casino would be rad as heck. I imagine it would be joker ticket based for most things, like slots, roulette, etc. Tickets wouldn't work for some things like poker since players could bid a lot and then fold to give one guy tickets. I wouldn't say keep poker out though, you could just have it with regular in game money since we're able to gift that to each other anyway. I understand there's some concerns about introducing gambling into the game, (outside of joker boxes) but you could put a cap on how many times you can play certain games per day or how many tickets you're allowed to spend.

I'd like to see more interact-able things in social in general. The bars are really cool areas, but outside of role play you can't really do anything in them. Sit on bar stools! Take some shots! Live a little! Also dancer poles would be nice. And before you groan at that suggestion can you honestly say you WOULDN'T want to see Phresh working it? The general idea here is to have the environment be more interact-able, make the world feel less static.

One last thing that's a bit of a nit pick but still a gripe for me is the clusterfrick that is the inventory. It'd be great to have it be organize-able, at the very least alphabetized. I mean it's alphabetized in the clothing kiosks but no where else? Weapons aren't so bad since you at least have the category option, but when it comes to listing items on the market it's a total pain in the a... neck.

That's all I have for now. I don't frequent the forums very often so I apologize if I'm suggesting things that have been discussed here semi recently. I know the game has much bigger issues that need to be addressed first, but I'm just thinking along the lines of if apb gets to a point where it's doing more than just limping along and CAN be expanded. So if you think this game has a future or just want to entertain hypotheticals for fun I'd love to hear your guys thoughts and ideas.

edit: Since I faffed hard and posted this in the wrong place because I forgot about the suggestions section, I suppose the focus of this thread should be changes and additions you would like to see in social mainly.

Been a while since I've seen these ideas come up on the forum.  I think adding gambling in social would be great.  They could use up some of those unused areas in the galleria at the north end of the district to convert into a multi-story casino.  Poker games could be held on the top floor, while the lower floors could be slot machines and roulette.  I don't think anyone ever uses those small rooms on the sides of the galleria, so those could become part of the Casino.  Maybe the west side of it could become the casino and the east side could be used for other activities like a shooting range or other stuff.

Personally I don't think there should be a cap on how much you can gamble in a day because you're not using any real currency.  If you were gambling away G1C or RTW Points (lol)  then yeah it should have a cap on it, but Joker Tickets and APB$ are earned, so there's really no reason to cap players on gambling the resources that they earned from playing.  Having that other end of the district actually have something worthwhile itself would make the district seem more alive too because you would see people running back and forth between the casino and the customization corner more often instead of everyone just crowding at the mall because there's nothing else to really do in Social.  Maybe they could also make the Casino weapon skins and individual pieces of the high roller bundle prizes for certain milestones achieved by playing in the casino a lot.

Usable benches and bar stools would be great too.  They already have all the animations they need for that to work, they just need to be made usable.  The stripper pole is 100% the most important part of this post though.  APB won't be able to survive without it.  On the east side of the galleria they could possibly add an entrance to a racetrack sort of area for playing around with vehicles and maybe use that area as a new prototype for a race mode.  Then the top (currently inaccessible) floor of the galleria could take you to a spectator box to watch the races.  The track itself should be behind the galleria and be fairly large.  I'm aware that the back of the galleria would need to be modeled because just like in any game, anywhere that you can't see or get to just isn't modeled for performance sake.

Races

These could possibly be set up using the dynamic event system and reward the participants with cash or JT for taking part/winning, and extra rewards like normally Armas exclusive kits or high tier cars for milestone achievements.  The way I can see this happening would be similar to joining minigames on Tower Unite but for there to be two rosters, one is for the practice track, where you press F on the roster and are immediately taken to a separate copy of the same track to practice with no real rulesets or place tracking.  Basically just a track to goof around on.  Pressing F on the other roster would put your name and vehicle up on a screen and the race will only begin once there are enough participants.  Minimum of 4?  When the race begins it pulls you away from whatever you're doing while you are waiting (to not keep the others in the race waiting) and puts you in the dynamic event which automatically puts you in your currently equipped car at the starting line.  Then there's the usual countdown that you would expect and the race begins.  While in the dynamic event you cannot leave the vehicle and pressing F resets you on the track at the previous checkpoint.  After you complete the race you are teleported to the spectator box and can move freely.  This would have to be timed so that players can't grief and make the race go on forever, but the time should be generous and take low tier cars into consideration.  Once you are taken to the spectator box you get your prize immediately, so once again a player can't grief and delay you receiving your reward.

I just want to see some sort of Vault system in social that works similar to the one in Destiny and Destiny 2, where you can store a large amount of in-game items (such as weapons, clothes, symbols, vehicles, etc) in which ALL your characters share to make it much easier to send items between your characters and serve as a large storage system to help keep the clutter of stuff you’re not currently using out of your inventory and into the vault for safe keeping.

Im sure we can all agree that we all need some extra storage space for something. And, we need a better way to transfer our items easily between characters, rather than using the sometimes buggy and slow mail system which has lost me a couple items and just takes too long to send items honestly...

I’m constantly out of clothing space and created a couple throw away characters on another account just to use their inventory and now I’m running low on vehicle space and now almost weapons!

We need space!

I lol'd

Yeah I'm not really for a cap at the Casino myself. I just figured it could be a solution to those who have concerns about gambling. If the developers had similar concerns then I'd rather have a limited casino then no casino at all. I love your idea for the Race track! Your post also got me thinking about the layout of social. The Galleria becoming the casino seems like a logical choice but it got me thinking about other uses for that space. I'm thinking rent-able apartments. Some could be first come first serve, like the Galleria display points. Other, possibly more fancy apartments, you would have to bid on in the weekly market auctions. You could have it so you can set a lock to group, friends only, a whitelist and so on. I figure there would be symbol display points inside as paintings. Color-able walls/carpet. Maybe even be able to rearrange the furniture. There could also be a TV that you could watch video links on, Garry's Mod tower style. Maybe some utility things too, like a clothing kiosk in a closet and a Laptop on a table to act as a mail kiosk. As for where the casino would go in this scenario I think you could open up the back of Joker distribution and create a new area for it. This way you have the prize room up front, makes the place even more enticing.

@DeadlyHellhound A vault system would be very nice. Would make moving Weapons and stuff in general between characters a hell of a lot easier. At the very least  we should be able to send multiple attachments in the mail. Maybe something like 5 for f2p players and 15 for premium. This doesn't address the storage space issue though and if the mail bugged out and you lost a lot of stuff it would be pretty devastating so a vault like you're suggesting would be preferable.
