  1. The biggest mistake LO ever made was unbanning known cheaters and giving them their main accounts back. I love it when former cheaters come over to the forums to complain about cheaters then get banned themselves.

I got nothing against anyone but when the game was active some of these people contributed to the heavy decline in population and people not wanting to give the game a second chance.

I can see the DEVS unbanning some of their favourites but at that point I, along with the rest of the population would have lost all hope for the game.

PS: Macro is also a form cheating 🙂

  2. This company is a definition of failure, false promises and taking on projects they are not capable to complete. They killed the population by putting the game on autopilot and now the population is dead and the engine update is dead as well, you can't make this up. At this point you might as well close up the game since the remaining population will not be able to cover the server costs. If they messed up so hard on this, what can you say for the future projects they are working on.

I wouldnt count on the engine upgrade.  Not sure why people are still holding on hope for it...

    Merged.

there is literally nobody "making a living" streaming this game...

Honestly you don't have to look too far! I didn't believe it either 😉

But ye griefing should be dealt with but with how the population is going now, I think it might be time to start thinking about playing a new game !

First of all i'd like to say, props on focussing all resources towards the Engine update, but stuff needs to happen.

It's always the same cycle right now         Login > See the same people > People get gold > People curvestomp noobies > Dethreat & Repeat.

(I won't name and shame) <Although i dont see why it's such a problem as i feel like specific people should be ashamed>

Either way, there are tons of ''Fake golds'' playing in bronze, it's not just once, it's every single day. Every day the same people who curvestomp everyone because they can't play silver.

It's just sad that nothing can be done to this.

It's just sad we as a community do not shame these people for behaving like this, same as known cheaters but that's a sensitive topic around here.

    How hard is it to implement (for now) a system that would;

Send these people the fuck over to silver/gold district upon reaching gold threat?

I know the current threat system is a joke, gold is easily achieve-able

But it's the same dethreaters / outskilled for the district type of people.

    Something has to change.

As a long time fan and returning player after 2 years, it took me a week. 7 days to call it quits yet again because of this unplayable garbage in districts, asylum/baylan cheaters and dethreaters.

    It's sad.

It is clear they don't care about the game.  My advice would be to find a different game, this game has been running for over 10 years and is on it's last legs at the moment.

Most of the people that grief are streamers, then get surprised and mad when they are streaming and get griefed

    APB players logic sometimes...

There are some people making a living out of streaming APB!  They should just take collision away from people not in a mission once a mission starts,  this would solve all the issues. I think this would too hard for the the current dev team😂.  If people are purposely griefing they should get a permanent ban, I believe there is a streamer who is known within the community that received a permanent ban recently for griefing.

  6. At this point might as well shut the game down. The large minority of players you have remaining are the once that are not able to financially contribute to the upkeep of the game, who would rather spend 15 euros on cheats then help the game out.  You have the people that are speed hacking who are still not banned. If you guys are struggling to ban people who are blatantly speed hacking, what confidence, would it give us that you can actually deal with people who are closeting. NA literally has no population, the EU population is slowly dying and is only being kept alive from the Russian/Ukrainian population who are playing on 100ms +. I would be really surprised if the game is making any money at all.

    Hi everyone,

Rest assured the entire team is still here.

I'll be more candid here. We followed the same strategy for over 2 years with mixed results. It makes no sense to keep following that same course and expect a different outcome. Instead, I came up with a new strategy that the existing team had avoided since the beginning of the port to 3.5. In fact, there is a segment of my team that feels my approach 'cant be done'.

So I felt the need to take over this portion of the development and then hand the game back off.

The work has involved tearing apart the base of the engine to re-implement several core systems from 1.20. That has meant having to go backward and get the data ported over again. This is why you're seeing all the rework.

    Thanks,

    Matt

I guess you need a more talented team, I am glad you are taking over to help out which is, all good and well. But it does not give me confidence with the team you have, if a CEO needs to take over to help out.  Just makes me think that they are not good enough to work on this game alone, but hopefully you will all prove me wrong and the engine update is amazing. But you need a plan to deal with the blatant cheaters running around now. The pop is on the decline and people are losing faith, with a lot of former legit players choosing to cheat their patootie off. I appreciate the engine update is important, but there is also a major issue at hand which needs to be addressed. You can't just run away and pretend like the game has no issues, you told us battle eye is one of the best anti cheat out there, yet there is more cheaters roaming around than when we had easyanticheat. You gave us a glimpse of a good anti cheat then brought us back to something that failed the game, which is pretty sad.

    Lets All just remember for a minute, how things were before LO took over.  Lets see;

Dailey DDS attacks, Constant freeze ups or disconnects, The Old Goat doing Shout-Outs over the Hud, Game goes down on thursday and not rebooted till monday. I could go on.

We pretty much wouldn't have a game if LO dint come along.

A Good Leader doesn't always make the right decision, but whats important is that He makes A decision and leads Us.

We all want to get to the top of the hill, this Man has had his head wrapped up in this games code since they got here, those old devs from back in the day would be useless and or a risk to our game cuz they weren't tasked with Rewriting the whole game n have no clue of the current write's or changes, Matt does.

Then if he did hire an old dev or some outsider, they would have to Learn or Relearn everything before they could dabble in our current code, n that would take Time n they'd probly phuck it up

     We got Your Back Matt.

Yet the population is on a worse decline than it was since G1 owned them. Not saying G1 were any better but let's not pretend LO are saints either. You say Matt has all this knowledge, yet there is nothing to show for it. I'll believe you when something gets released to the public. The EU servers are heading towards the same status as the NA servers, we also have people who are cheating blatantly with speed hacks who are still not banned yet, which is not going to help the population get any better.

One person is tryn to get the job done?👏May takes 20 more years to be done but the fact that his losing his life and free time doin this is just inexplicable. All that for this game which probably not gonna grow much after the upgrade.Idk if is worthy at this point but we must show some support at least login and playn for some time instead of cryn all the time on forums.Wish you all the best boss and take some break from apb.Health and family comes 1st after all everything else is secondary.Take care

He is not taking care of the most important aspect of the game. A good CEO would know how to delegate and tackle the issues at hand, rather than ignoring them and hoping that everyone will come back once the engine is done.

  10. Imagine not being able to run a server to cater 400 pop game. The struggle is going to be real if they get a good population, which I doubt will happen with their management of the game where cheaters are running around causing havoc without getting banned.

For the past 11 years, the first 5 spent playing the game. I have been lurking on the APB forums, reading updates from Matt, following blog posts, all in the vain hope of finally seeing that the engine update is released.

Three years after Little Orbit has taken over this still hasn't happened.

I do not understand why these game devs think they could reverse engineer APB's code into NOT EVEN the newest engine of Unreal. It is painfully apparent that Real Time Worlds coded the game in a way that would only work with the Unreal Engine it was built in. Every week I read Matt's engine tracker updates and all I see is problem after problem in regards to making this game work. It's too old, it was never built properly to begin with, and I think Little Orbit is wasting time trying to make this game work.

The amount of time invested into upgrading the engine should have been spent rebuilding APB from scratch with the Unreal 4 codebase or a different engine altogether.

The code was not built correctly, plain and simple. If it were built correctly, then APB would be in the same boat as Grand Theft Auto Online which is using the RAGE engine version built during GTA IV. Their engine is not perfect and it certainly has a lot of limitations, but the code to upgrade it and continue to develop it is on a solid foundation. That same GTA IV engine was used to develop Red Dead Redemption 2. Funnily enough, I believe horses were listed under vehicles and there was still some code for airplanes that weren't used in RDR2.

My concern now is that I fear Little Orbit will now run into the investors fallacy. Where they've spent so much money on trying to make something work they will continue throwing money into it even though it's never going to pan out. This is how I feel about APB.

Instead of trying to glue together a broken egg shell, Little Orbit should consider transferring their resources into developing APB 2 and just put APB 1 on maintenance mode.

Reasons why Little Orbit should focus on developing APB 2 instead:

1.) Good will with APB is already tarnished. The terrible launch on consoles already left a bitter taste in most gamers mouths who didn't know anything about APB.

2.) The engine update isn't even going to dramatically increase graphic fidelity. The screenshots that were released with the "engine update" is the equivalent of an HD remaster of a game. And with the way development has been going, stability won't be improved due to spaghetti code.

3.) Veteran players have been playing the same maps for 11 years. There's no freaking way new players will stand a chance against the vets. When I was matched against a new player, I was dominating the poor kid without even trying. So rather than let him get discouraged, I change my guns (nerfed myself) and played less competitively. I heard him get excited over voice chat when he was finally able to beat me. I shouldn't have to play worse so that new players don't leave.

4.) With all the experience Little Orbit has gained in the development of APB, all that experience can be transferred over into developing an engine that is stable, clean, modable, and offer better performance than the current one. Leave the original APB in maintenance mode, continue to run your events, and build a competent codebase that can be upgraded in the same way as Rockstar's RAGE engine.

What experience? I doubt they have the talent pool to make a game like APB from scratch. Have you seen the other type of games they have developed before taking over?

  12. The game is awesome, but the people running it are useless. They are pretty much another G1, when they tried so hard to be something different.

We literally have cheaters running around without any repercussion, on top of other former legit players choosing to cheat to compete with the cheaters. This game is a shit show and it doesn't look like LO is trying to fix the problem, but rather rely on a engine update to solve all the issues. Engine update is not gonna solve the cheater issues 😉

God, the amount of salty silver tears in this thread are giving me severe dehydration. Y’all have to remember, this is a free to play game. Stop wasting so much of your breath crying, and go play fortnite or something. That’s where a lot of you belong seeing as how you react to players who are just better.

    git gud scrub or leave

Why would you post this on a new account if that's how you really feel? Are you really afraid of people on the internet? Unbelievable. On the topic of cheaters there is quiet a few from Russia not gonna bother giving names since there is so much video evidence out there, and multiple ban histories with the new anti cheat but doesn't seem like Little Orbit care about banning the blatant cheaters in a timely manner when they are actively stream sniping cheating their asses off.  It's all good and well working on the engine update but there won't be an active enough population if you don't deal with the cheater issues @MattScott.

PS: Gotta love the former cheaters preaching on stream about the population when they are part of the problem that caused the population to dip to this point.

We used to say that we're okay with ragehackers because they got caught relatively quickly but now it seems that even they can get away with anything as long as they don't stream and their injection doesn't get detected by the anti-cheat. APB is lucky to still have any players at all in the past few years and rampant cheaters among the last few players that play is only making matters tenfold worse. If they can't catch a ragehacker then they'll never be able to catch a semi-experienced closet of any description. This is unacceptable.

Never thought I'd agree with you. But the game is a shit show at the moment. It's disgusting how the company is trying to portray this anti cheat as something that's working when it's clearly not.

there are many "old" games i can name that are way older than APB and have a steady pop and STILL are being updated and maintained. one of them that comes to mind is competitive and they are still balancing it its also like 20 years old.

i don't buy the "game is too old" excuse... APB plays good it just needs fixes... once everything is fixed then it can just run on auto pilot like other old games that people are still playing.

the MAIN problem that has haunted this game since the begining was its matchmaking. well i honestly think the match making worked better in beta days before they changed it to threat segregated servers... once they started locking people out of servers thats when dethreating became a thing.

Don't forget the people that thought it was okay to cheat back when the game had a decent population then they come back complaining about what happened to the POP now! Crazy right 😆
