The actual APB Server Optimization Blog Post Yes - this is the 'real' non-draft post...

Looks promising - with words and actions like those, I for one will be returning to check it out.
I especially find that test setup with a desktop cpu interesting, and I'm actually quite confident it'll handle the pressure given optimal cooling
For the engine, that cpu packs a serious punch

Am i right in saying that the blog post said with this new Overkill hardware, you COULD theoretically run the server FPS at 60? dude 30 is fine LOL

All this good stuffs about server upgrades seem great. I for one really want them to work out, even if they don't perform exactly as expected. Here's to new hope

In this post we have only talked about server side processing and optimization, and have not touched the OTHER things that also affect performance First and foremost - you need a good gaming rig to play APB. We always recommend having 8GB of RAM and using 64-bit Windows 7. Anything less is asking for trouble. In particular using 64-bit Windows is critical. Also client-side FPS in most Unreal games tends to drop dramatically during very large semi-transparent VFX events (i.e. very big explosions where the player does NOT die - something APB of course has a lot of) so only higher end graphics cards tend to perform ok during those big VFX events (and to optimize that part of the engine code is a whole other ball of wax, far beyond the scope of this current post).
So what you're saying is pre 1.10/1.10.1 where my machine was running around 100fps on high with drops to 75 fps in combat to where it runs now is barely 75 on medium and drops to less then 30 any giving time. Is my fault? Oh yea, when I drop it to low I barely get 50 fps....

Did you not read all the paragraphs that preceded?

"next week" change to "very soon"
Because if there are hiccups in testing next week ain't looking realistic.

Thanks a ton for sticking to your New Years resolution guys. It makes us feel a ton better when you tell us what's wrong, why its wrong, and what your doing about it. Things are definitely looking up this year.
I'll go into district and spread the good news for all those who aren't on the forums all day like us.
