The only plus that Fireworks has over Paint.NET for me is being able to use those lines that the text will follow (path I believe?)

I dunno what features are in the most recent Fireworks, or if there is one more recent than Macromedia Fireworks 8.

Utilize FireWorks text manipulation abilities, learn to apply text to a path. It'll help spice up your sig. You can create a line that goes along the edge of the image (say the car in your current sig) and have the text follow that line, which would be the edge of the car. Even if you use the.. generic fonts (Arial, Verdana) you can make it look interesting.

Yup it's called a Path.
-------
We are on FireWorks CS4 at the minute I believe, I've heard rumours of CS5 emerging soon as well ohmy.gif.
-------
Fonts like Veranda and Arial look best in my opinion. I always find clear and simple text best, so it doesn't detract from the signature itself. Complicated text might look all snazzy and that, but it changes the focal point because it usually has to be reasonably big to be clear enough to read...

That just depends on the font. There are some nice ones out there that are like Arial and Verdana, but can be read at small sizes.

I don't believe I have this one, but just looking on da font, I found this that should be readable at small sizes. It's fonts like these that I prefer in sigs.

And one that I really like is Hand of Sean (will probably be using it in my upcoming sig)

Ones that you're talking about something like this, correct?

Arial and Verdana are mad boring tongue.gif The only time they ever get from me is for web text, seeing you are limited to a handful of typefaces that are found on all computers (two of them being Arial and Verdana).

If people want solid sans serif(look it up) typefaces, I would suggest Helvetica Neue STD, Univers, or Futura. If you want something with a slight playfulness to it, Calibri - which was deigned for Windows Vista to increase readability, and is now the default in all MS office products.

You can always go more headline(graphic) style fonts but you need to be careful. Fonts that are deemed as "headline" are usually ones that should only be used large due to they lack of readability at small sizes.

I'm no GFX Pro like you, but I'd like to add Avant Garde to that smile.gif.

I heard about paint.net, but I couldn't figure out how to use effeciently and I was too lazy to go on their forums or use a tutorial. Maybe just a few useful pointers from some one who knows how to use it would be helpful.
